| RunOfTheMill Yeah, it's great! I'm gonna go for more of their discography, since I've had Advance to the Fall for only a few days and can't stop listening haha
| FictionalFlames And yes, Galneryus is pretty sick. In my opinion, they're music is similar to Dragonforce, but the execution is better than of Dragonforce's.
| FictionalFlames I know dude! They're like a mixture of Rhapsody and Lost Horizon.
| RunOfTheMill Oh, right, and a lot of piano/synthsHere's the album opener from Advance to the Fallhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfBI_kmDlNQ
| RunOfTheMill The way I see it, they're like X Japan, but more polished and melodic. I've only listened to Advance to the Fall by them, and it has some really great riffs, and a bunch of neo-classical guitar work. You might as well go for that one, I like it a lot!
| FictionalFlames They remind me more of a Symphonic version of Lost Horizon with a blend of Rhapsody.
| RunOfTheMill So I've been jamming Advance to the Fall by Galneryus recently. Ever listen to them?
| FictionalFlames you might like Pathfinder; they're a symphonic power metal band from Poland.
| FictionalFlames hey dude, though I did review Ensiferum's new album and it's not all that great, but there other stuff is pretty solid and awesome. I don't think you've ever listened to them, but they're basically a melodic death metal band that incorporates folk elements.
| RunOfTheMill Ah ok. It is pretty good. I figured that a power metal album that got a 4.6 on sputnik (even if it's only with ten votes) HAS to be good, and it's a nice change from the usual super speed power metal I'm used to. Oh and what happened to your reviews? haven't seen one in forever.
| RunOfTheMill Hey man, have you ever listened to Power Quest?
| FictionalFlames they haven't been able to recover since 1992. though their last two albums are a decent attempt at a reform.
| FictionalFlames You're good brah. Btw if you check out Loudness' discography, be sure to avoid their works from the 90's to the late 00's. Their 80's stuff is where it's at.
| FictionalFlames I know about their popularity and what not, idk I just don't find symphonic power metal as exciting compared to someone like Firewind. And from what I've heard of them, they didn't impress me either.
| FictionalFlames I've heard of them, but I'm not exactly too familiar with them.
| FictionalFlames I can agree on the cliched parts. idk it just clicked right with me lol
| ThrashTillDeath94 Listening to "Burnt Offerings" now. I like what i'm hearing. They make the mix of thrash and power metal appear seamless. I'm leaning more towards a 4 at the moment, but i'm gonna give it a ton more listens, since these kind of albums can be growers.
| ThrashTillDeath94 Thanks for the recommendations, ill be sure to check them out and let you what i think.
| ThrashTillDeath94 Hey i'm glad you liked it. "Death Squad" and "Ignorance are my favorite from that one. Hey can you throw some power metal recommendations at me? I already heard Gamma Ray and Primal Fear, and i'm looking for more.
| FictionalFlames Blind Guardian recently just said that they're gonna start shifting their gears for the next two years to work constantly on their new album. (Check their official website.)
| RunOfTheMill Yeah, I think I may have a go at it, though I have a few other reviews planned as well, so it may take a while unless I plan on doing it first. I'll see. I'm surprised how little attention it's gotten, but it IS rather mediocre.
| RunOfTheMill Hey man, are you (or FictionalFlames) planning on reviewing Unisonic?
| FictionalFlames I think their debut is pretty good, but I'm not too familiar with their work. But I do remember them being pretty good and what not. Thought you might enjoy them cuz I've noticed you like overlooked power metal bands.
| FictionalFlames Idk, you might like Thunderstone. Look up their song 'Me, My Enemy' or 'Let the Demons Free'. They're Finnish power metal, so they have that Stratovarius influence.
| FictionalFlames the review does kind of suck, but I'm not entirely sure. I think I've exhausted my power metal reviewing ideas. But there is a chance later on in the future.
| ZedO my sound-off; http://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=100688and here; download-link (they distributed that demo freely: http://www.mediafire.com/?nmcohynt2rj (pass: http://www.indieshow.biz)
| ZedO I just finished listening to Rage's "Secrets In A Weird World", and yea it needs more love here on Sputnik. It's a solid album from start to finish. It is a 4 imo, but perhaps it will be a 4.5 eventually, haha. If you have a chance, just check out Lord Symphony's 2007's demo "Lord's Wisdom", I wrote a sound-off for it. That band is the only Indonesian power metal band I know and I listen to (I'm Indonesian btw). Oh, btw, where are you from, bro? (if you don't mind)
| FictionalFlames negative reviews are quite fun to write, especially if you know you can throw in a good joke that not everyone will catch on the first read.
| FictionalFlames I might; chances are pretty high. But idk when, I kind of started some mini rough drafts from Galneryus, Unisonic, Korpiklaani, and 3 inches of Blood. Also I would be interested in reading Stratovarius' self-titled review, because I've never exactly listened to more than one song off of it.
| FictionalFlames I'm curious if you've started on the Stratovarius - Twilight Time review?
| ZedO okay I will check out Night of the Stormrider first
| ZedO Hello my friend Venpts, I do enjoy Iced Earth's Burnt Offerings, I was like; "damn, why I was too late to get this a listen!...". Yes, I really like this album (Dante's Inferno rules hard!!!). I wish u rec me what Iced Earth's album should I get next, and if it is as great as Burnt Offerings, no doubt they will be one my fav bands. Thank, mate ;]
| FictionalFlames no problem dude I'm glad you're enjoying them. And go right ahead and review those albums, they need them.
| RunOfTheMill Haha the EP does kinda suck, though I thought that the re-recording of "Brothers" was pretty good, a huge improvement over the original. And if you like the original HfT, you might wanna listen to that version. I'm not sure what your thoughts on live albums are, but this is quite an incredible performance (23 minutes long!). Also, on a side-note, my friend made me listen to At the Edge of Time, and goddam that is a kickass album, makes me much more interested in the albums that I have.
| FictionalFlames Btw I got the majority of Galneryus' stuff through rars and zips.... I didn't buy their music, b ut I want too, but I highly recommend them dude. Check out all of their stuff. And if you look up their song Destiny on youtube, it may or may not seal the deal, even if it;s not off the album i reviewed.
| FictionalFlames I guess you can read the review, it sums up their sound quite well imo. I also posted one of their songs from youtube in the forum below it as well.
| FictionalFlames First off the Gamma Ray EP sucks. secondly I haven't listened to Rage yet, but I plan on it. I just thought I'd pop in tell you, you might be interested in Galneryus. I haven't listened to them in a while, but they're awesome as hell.
| RunOfTheMill Did you check out the newest Gamma Ray EP?And, just as a side-note, did you ever see the Heading for Tomorrow off of Heading for the East?
| FictionalFlames I've heard of Rage before, but I've never bothered with them. Where should I start?
| FictionalFlames I don't wanna come off as bothering you with Edguy or anything, but they've slowly became a guilty pleasure. if you like this song I'd check out some of their stuff if i were you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eaMLX63nq0
| FictionalFlames I've been diggin the hell out of Rocket Ride recently, but I don't know if that would be appropriate by getting into them. I'd say Mandrake or Hellfire Club.
| FictionalFlames You like power metal and all that, so I think you should check out Edguy.
| FictionalFlames you said you liked Nightingale's debut, you should go check out the Moonspell album I just reviewed.
| FictionalFlames Well I guess you might like Elements pt. 2 then, even if I gave it a 2.5 review. You might think it's a 3 or 3.5.
| FictionalFlames Elements part 1 a 5 ? It's not that great man.... but hey whatever floats your boat. IMO it's 3.5 at best.
| FictionalFlames Usually I don't play video games, but they're some of the few I can assure that are pretty awesome.
| FictionalFlames And after you beat the games on the bad, good, or great endings (they depend on your actions at the end) you can unlock other game play modes with different characters. I.E. Portrait of Ruin can get up to about, I wanna say 4 different modes, while the other two games only have two options of different characters after unlocking them.
| FictionalFlames I can assure you that the game music is pretty awesome. As the games go all three (that's how many made in that format) are different in the game play with different settings and what not. I do know that the normal mode is kind of easy if it's your second run throw the entire game, the first time around it can be kind of slow and "difficult", but you can change it to hard mode after beating the normal mode.
| FictionalFlames Yeah Dream Evil has a lot of awesome stuff, not a huge of their ballads though. As for Castlevania I've only played their DS games and Aria of Sorrow. It's pretty fun stuff imo, hell I got two of the ds games sitting by my laptop right now lol.
| FictionalFlames As for me I find a d-load and listen to it to see if it's worth my time, depending on how good it is then I'll go find actual physical copy of it and buy it. and i spammed your last.fm
| FictionalFlames Judging by your library you need a lot of studying.... also idk know if you use itunes or you d-load music albums off of say mediafire or some other file distribution site or anything like that, but you'll soon discover the last.fm stream is quite useless when wanting to listen to music in certain ways, and depending on the country you're in also depends on the scrobbling device, I think. I know that if you live in the US, UK, or Germany than it's free or something like that.
| FictionalFlames Dream Evil is pretty sick dude. I'd add them to your last.fm library if you haven't already.
| FictionalFlames oh yeah I also made a best of Firewind list, you might like it.
| FictionalFlames their vocalist has a lot of power and melody behind his voice, kind of like the singer off of Helloween's Keep of the Keys (can't think of his name), some what similar to Bruce Dickinson and Apollo from Firewind. The first three albums also have Gus G. in it - I would start off with the first album, and then the rest of their stuff.
| FictionalFlames you should also add Moontower in there as well, it's under his name as a solo career album. Think of Rush having sex with Death.
| FictionalFlames Yeah their debut is ****ing awesome, but it was originally designed as a tribute album to the goth rock band, The Sisters of Mercy. I would recommend you listen to their 'I' album next if you're interested.
| ZedO Dude, "Land of the Free" is ****ing awesome, if other albums of Gamma Ray are as awesome as this, so definitely this band is my cup of tea ;] thanks...
| RunOfTheMill Hmm, I'm having a hard time getting into Blind Guardian, and I don't know why :/ maybe I should get drunk a bit before listening to them, that usually eases me into music pretty well xP
| rockandmetaljunkie Yes they really are. However bear in mind that they have a harder sound, more guitar driven. Unfortunately you won't find all of their songs available in youtube. Check their site. I have their 2nd and 3rd album and i wish i could send you the tracks but i don't how.
| rockandmetaljunkie Dude if you like Power Metal so much, check out Battleroar. A Greek band with a musical approach similar to another Greek band Firewind. I can guarantee you will not waste your time.
| FictionalFlames his stuff might be a bit hard to get into, but once you start enjoying his stuff, then you'll start creaming your pants. He's like Chuck Schuldiner in greatness equivalently.
| FictionalFlames How can you it was "worse", that's blasphemy man. You should really check out Dan Swano's stuff (wiki him). But Nightingale's first album is straight up goth rock, while the rest is AOR prog rock.
| FictionalFlames I'm not sure how you dig prog rock, but I reviewed a Nightingale album a week ago, and I think you should go check it out.
| FictionalFlames If only the world was like Metalocalypse and everyone listened to death metal.
| FictionalFlames Not too long ago this joke of a mayor wants tax payer dollars to provide south side kids itunes, or least he's asking some sort of crap like that, and he's already gotten himself tied up in that stereotypical nonsense or "gotta support a brother", and the worst of it all is that mainly the "rap culture" (I don't want to come off as a complete racist) is the main problem for these "ghettos", but they don't want to admit their own failure.
| FictionalFlames The authors you mentioned were good. As for the race. I don't know exactly where you live, but not everyone is equal in America, racists are racists and prejudices are prejudices. And you'd be quite surprised by how local "politicians"/activist throw out the race card left and right.
| FictionalFlames The type of books I usually dislike are mainly books that center around racial sympathy, such as To Kill A Mockingbird (I live at the very edge of the Deep South; I have little sympathy to anyone who plays the race card, you live in ****ing America take advantage of the public school system, and no you don't live in a ghetto no one is forcing you to live there), and other typical real life scenarios. Sorry for my rant.
| FictionalFlames Generally I like ooks that have a good gothic vibe to it, for example Jane Eyre, some might call it a chick flick, but idgaf it has a good story line. I'm also a fan of Frank Herbert, Edgar Allen Poe, J.R.R. Tolkien. But I'm more of history kind of guy for the most part.
| FictionalFlames I don't read often, mainly because I can be very cynical with literature. If i think it sucks, then I'll tell you without any worry of ramification.
| FictionalFlames They may be processed in a 2 weeks span (along with Sonata) because I want to focus on my workout, all-state, and reading some books (I need to read more).
| FictionalFlames btw no one cares if you post another review if the one from yesterday is still on the front page, as long as it was posted yesterday.
| FictionalFlames go right ahead; do what you want. I kind of planned on reviewing Savage Souls, Fireangle, and Satanic Souls.
| FictionalFlames Yeah I'll do like 3 of their albums sometime after I'm done with Sonata.
| ZedO man, wintersun is fu*king cool; a must purchased stuff, haha...
| FictionalFlames I'm not surprised that they're starting to drag musically, because they have been around for over a decade. Personally I found Cinderblox, Losing My Insanity, and s***load of Money to nice listens, the Wildfires were alright; nothing too ground breaking.
| FictionalFlames When I was listening to it I didn't find anything to praise about.
| FictionalFlames Same with Children of Bodom. btw it's gonna be a 2/5 review, practically every song is boring, and there's a lack of inspiration, besides making that bank.
| FictionalFlames I'm glad you like my reviews man, chances are I'll write it tomorrow. I wanna get in my work out tonight (I haven't done it in a while).
| FictionalFlames I'm just listening to the album and taking notes as the songs are being played. Surprisingly enough, s***load of money is a definite highlight.
| FictionalFlames well it looks like i might review Sonata Arctica after all, I started to make notes on the songs.
| FictionalFlames Oh yeah dude it did get featured. Thanks man I appreciate it.
| FictionalFlames I'm willing to bet that there will be a staff review that overshadows any other review. Unless you get on it straight away after it leaks.
| FictionalFlames Thanks dude, I hope it gets featured too. If you do a recent 2012 review I'll go ask for it to be featured for you as an eye-for-an-eye.
| FictionalFlames CaptainDooRight tried to post the feature request, but it didn't work for him.
| FictionalFlames Can you do me a favor and go on this link and ask to feature my Ulver review. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=585823
| FictionalFlames Well they've already been labeled as gay on this site. So that's why they've been, as you say "unnoticed", but their new music video was quite gay tbh. sooooo you never know.
| FictionalFlames I might. If you want to, go right ahead, or if you want me to I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
| FictionalFlames Just like my review said a blend of their melodeath and old In Flames. Oh, yeah check out Insidious too, that album is just as sick, just like their first two albums, their middle one is a bit meh for me.
| FictionalFlames no problem with the rec just ask anytime you want to check out a genre or something.
| FictionalFlames If the people on this website gave Nightrage the respect they deserve, in all honest I'd give Wearing a Martyr's Crown an average rating of 4.1; the album itself is pretty sick. I'd check it out now if you're not listening to anything new.
| FictionalFlames Not sure if you're familiar with Nightrage or not, considering it used to have Gus G. in it. You should check out my review I put up yesterday; see if it sparks your interest.
| FictionalFlames The oxymoron at my school is when I see pseudo rednecks blasting rap.
| FictionalFlames Dude I would kill to live in a world were people actually listened to real music, whether it be classical, prog rock, metal, jazz, neo-folk, even country music. Just not that s***ty pop
| FictionalFlames ... or Symbolic. What surprised me is that this really cool girl in my french class listens to Tyr.
| FictionalFlames It's mainly teenagers who are caught up in some sort of scene to "revolt against their parents or conformity". I'm still disgusted every time I'm walking down the hall at my high school and I see someone I know wearing an 'Asking Alexandria' shirt.
| FictionalFlames They laughed more at the fact of how they were dressed up. But yeah I found it quite unsettling too until I sat down through it and realized how awesome the song was, especially the drum's breakdown near the end of the song. And yeah I wouldn't share some of the music I listened to either especially death metal. because people stereotype it as screaming with chug-chug (i.e. Suicide Silence, they are not metal, they suck dick).
| FictionalFlames very true. lol I actually showed my History teacher and part of the class a black metal video not too recently just to see his reaction, because it was an end of the year party. Thankfully he has a sense of humor, I usually him stuff so I've been kind of labeled as that guy who listens to metal, so I showed the class this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEVodXzNmPM they all laughed :(
| FictionalFlames Just... be careful... for the most part they're sacrilegious....
| FictionalFlames Crap I forgot to mention Bathory or Venom. But I wouldn't start off with them.
| FictionalFlames Some people might get mad about the word "commercial" but to get into the genre I would start off with Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, Behemoth, and (new) Keep of Kalessin.
| FictionalFlames To appreciate the genre itself, you almost have to get into the "commercial" stuff like Dimmu Borgir, (new) Keep of Kalessin, Dark Funeral, Immortal, Enslaved, Cradle of Filth, Old Man's Child, Agalloch, Ihsahn, Alcest, Wolves in the Throne Room, Watain, Dissection, Behemoth, (older) Ulver, or 1349. Some people might get mad about the word "commercial" but to get into the genre I wou
| FictionalFlames 1. we need to team up and review Mystic Prophecy's discography2. you need some black metal
| RunOfTheMill So my buddy lent me the first five Blind Guardian albums... Which do you think I should start with? I'm tempted to go chronologically, but I'd like to start on a good step.
| ZedO yep, a lots of thank! cheers
| ZedO thanks man, perhaps, i will start with "No World Order" first (i love jp), honestly i'm somewhat "beginner" on power metal, only heard few famous bands such as helloween (i'm lucky ever watched 'em live ;]
| ZedO hey, man, i see you're a fan of gamma ray, which album you should recommend me first, coz, i wanna dig some power metal stuffs...
| FictionalFlames I have to still d-load it. Going to do it within about an hour now, the Usenet is extremely useful.
| RunOfTheMill Nice, we're of the same opinion. I've been jamming that song like crazy recently. Are you a fan of really long songs? I always loved them, it gives space for creativity and anything you wanna throw in the mix (as long as they actually ARE creative, thinking of Maiden's "Angel and the Gambler"). "Heading for Tomorrow" is rifftastic, and even that ultra-mellow solo in the first half of the song, though not headbang-y, has such a great atmosphere.
| RunOfTheMill Hey, random question: what do you think of Heading for Tomorrow, the song? I noticed you're not crazy about the album, but the song is a standout for me, so I was just wondering what your opinion on it was :)
| Voivod Hi man, check out this band and song - http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news.php?newsid=22054
| FictionalFlames Well, they are singles, so you never know. Plus their new album is suppose to have Wildfire part2 and part 3, so I'm still optimistic.
| FictionalFlames I wouldn't say Blind Guardian. But Sonata Arctica seems to be following that path, because their new single sucks imo.
| FictionalFlames no problem dude. I learned the same thing when I first started out on a different user.
| FictionalFlames you should post in other shoutboxes so people know what your reply is, not everyone re-checks the other....... noob. lol
| Venpts16 I have a placeholder rating for now; I really really like it so far. :D I plan on changing it if quality dips down.
