| xxm You're welcome, as for recs i'd say June of '44, Dan Caballero, Rodan, and Superchunk among others.
| xxm I love your perspective on both jazz and alternative music.
| MillionDead I have to agree! I've really been vibing off of End Hits lately. Break is probably one of the more perfect intros I've heard!
| MillionDead That's a sweet pie chart and favorites list you got there.
| Voivod Hi man, can you place the following link - http://rocketrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/world-music - in the first comment of your "Goat - World Music" review? Thanks in advance.
| Yuli Hey man, sorry I didn't respond until now. I honestly have heard very little albums that remind me of Immunity, which is partially why I love it so much. If you've stumbled upon any in particular since you asked me, feel free to let me know! I'm addicted to the damned thing.
| clercqie No surprise, Monolake is one of the guys who developed the Ableton Live daw software, so you'd think he knows how to get the most out of it. Glad you're digging Cobblestone Jazz. They're great live as well. Dunno if they tour that much, though.
| AgainAnd Dude, from meeting you recently in the Tago Mago, El Pintor and The Stone Roses threads and looking at your ratings I could swear we have some kind of mental connection. I'd be glad if you agreed to recommend me something.
| clercqie No problem man, you know where to find me if you need extra stuff!
| clercqie Ah but those are amazing! Anyways, so you want house/techno recs with hints of field recordings? Voices From The Lake - s/t, John Talabot - Fin, Monolake- Silence and Ghosts, Recondite - Hinterland are some of the first that spring into my mind. If you want other genres, let me know 'cause I got some ideas there as well. Oh and check out Dawn of Midi - Disnomia and Cobblestone Jazz - Modern Deep Left Quartet as well: minimal techno played by jazz collectives.

| clercqie Yeah, can't wait to hear the collab between him and FlyLo. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the tracklist.
| clercqie ... because many left halfway through. Still, not to brag, but I'm more used to electronic stuff, so I thought the combination was really refreshing. The pieces had some weird retro and futuristic feel to them at the same time. And the finale was really something else: more traditional interplay between the acoustic instruments, very subdued and personal. I was very impressed!
| clercqie Yes, it was superb. First and foremost, probably the best sounding set I've ever heard on a festival site. And it was very experimental: Hancock on piano and synths, and Shorter on clarinet. Most pieces started off with eerie soundscapes from the synthesizer, over which Shorter improvised with melodies, to which the improv on piano from Hancock was the response. It was a weird mishmatch between ambient music, jazz and modern classical. Probably a bit too out there for a lot of people...
| clercqie Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock yesterday on the same stage: absolutely otherworldly!
| zakalwe Having given Spirit of Eden a listen and feeling like I'd had the kitchen sink hurled at me I went and bought the CD. Love it!
| zakalwe As a result of your exquisite musical taste, I'm going to delve into Talk Talk having never given them the time of day. I wonder what awaits?
| Frippertronics work a little bit oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
| zakalwe Escorting lost souls on their 4yr journey to eternal rest dude.
| TwigTW Loving Arthur Russell?s Another Thought--great rec. Thanks for that one.
| Ire turned me gay
| Ire you suck i hate you
| patrickfannon I'm so glad you like them, dude. I think they're really just an incredible band. The melodies Meric Long creates are always so nostalgic; so familiar-sounding, but they are never derivative or unoriginal. I've listened to the new album about five or six times through, and it just continues to unfold and grow on me. Beautiful. Also going to check out some Verlaine solo stuff over the weekend. I'm excited.

| patrickfannon 'Fools' (Visiter): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brGHyx163pg'The Season' (Visiter): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1ew5ERixS4'Fables' (Time To Die): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OXokMRls1U'Companions' (No Color): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKUN4ljm3AII just think this band is so, so good. Hope you like them, no hard feelings if you don't! Take care, bud.
| patrickfannon I'll make a recommendation to you, just because this band is one of my favorite indie bands of all time, and they have a new record coming out in just under a week. Try The Dodos' "Visiter," and if you like that, try "No Color." "Time To Die" is their sophomore record (or third, depending on whether their self-released debut is considered canon) and the most polished, clean, and poppy, but it was an acquired taste for me. Here's a couple tracks I like to give you a taste:
| SadAndHolyGlow I listened to Leviathan's "Massive Conspiracy..." I usually don't like this type of rather experimental black metal, but this one really caught me by surprise. Now it's one of my favorites. 4/5! Thanks again for the rec!
| avonbarksdale221 Everything will always be inferior after watching The Wire. So much replay value as well which shows like Breaking Bad just don't have.
| avonbarksdale221 Haha love it, there are so many funny scenes in the show. One of my faves: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiwDMK0H09o
| patrickfannon Also, "Marquee Moon" is so f**cking great. I admit that I did not initially understand it, but through many listens, I've grown to cherish it. Incredibly interesting sound.
| patrickfannon The majority of my soundoffs were written during a one-year span during which I was stoned or drunk most of the time. They're almost all hyperbolic, silly, pretentious or all three. Also, I tend to overrate things fairly easily, but "Laughing Stock" really blew me away. I listed to "Spirit of Eden," and I liked it, but not nearly as much. Built To Spill are one of my all-time favorite bands. I'm glad you dig them, too. Send recommendations over anytime you get the urge and keep in touch, bud.
| patrickfannon Hey, man. I know we've spoken in the past, but just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your presence on this site. Your taste in music is fairly distinctive and interesting, and I like seeing your name show up in the comment chains. I'm currently listening to Talk Talk's 'Laughing Stock,' as per your classic ratings and "best rock album ever made" description. Hope all's well with you, my friend.

| mandan That's the only one I've heard.
| mandan Dude, I listened to Mingus Ah Um, great stuff. The man was ahead of his time imo.
| silentpotato finished my album; http://sudatsuga.bandcamp.com/album/blue-moon-saiyeed
| clercqie I'm playing catching up tonight ;) I have Mingus Ah Um, Blues n Roots and Mingus Mingus Mingus in the pipeline
| clercqie I realise this is like a thousand years too late, but I'm finally listening to Black Saint And The Sinner Lady and it's godly!
| Graveyard http://www.sputnikmusic.com/bands/Psi-Com/29546/ a very interesting post-punk band that came out in early 80's. Think a mixture between Joy Division and spiritualism
| Steoandnoodles Hey, don't worry about it. =) A good place to start would be Historicity I think. Seriously good stuff!
| Steoandnoodles Yeah, Vijay Iyer, you know him then? =P Did you hear the new album?
| Sowing its cool, a lot of people didn't. there's always next time!
| mandan Please do. You seem to really enjoy, maybe I'll like it too.
| Sowing would you mind writing a very brief (5-10 sentences) summary/soundoff for the song you chose for the sputnik playlist? i think the feature would look a lot better with writing. if so, please let me know and email it to sowingsputnik@gmail.com. thanks again for being a part of things!
| mandan What can you tell me about Charles Mingus??
| Divine Sup dude, check out my new post-punk list if you ever get the chance http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=587637
| clercqie Yeah, I think it's really good, but only on occasion. Also, I still think the other two are better, so hence the 3.5. It may still grow on me, but we'll see :)
| clercqie There's a new Portico Quartet out, have you heard?
| patrickfannon What's new, Dude? I bought Thelonious Monk's "Monk's Dream" on vinyl this week. It's brilliant. Still need to get into more Mingus, though.
| nowhereman1991 Hey ned. It's me upstairs. Here's to my sparkling new music career!
| aok so where do you look for rugs that really tie the room together?
| BigHans no prob man I just jammed it today for the first time too, had only heard bits and pieces so far.
| BigHans seems like you like to up the punx. You should jam The Gun Club - Fire of Love. Rules hard.
| BaselineOOO You're the greatest, will try to check them ALL. I don't know, people say jazz makes you feel cool but in my case it only makes me feel very uncomfortable and impatient.
| patrickfannon Listened to "13 Songs" a few times and settled on a 3.5. I definitely like what I hear and am interested in pursuing their discohraphy. Going to listen to them in chronological order, so I'll grab "Repeater" next. Any other recs for recent music?
| BigHans You should read my Big Lebowski soundtrack review.
| patrickfannon No worries, man. Thanks for the detailed recommendations. I'm going to pick up "The Argument" tonight and get going. I'll let you know what I think of it once I've given it a couple listens. Ever thus to deadbeats, Mr. Lebowski.
| patrickfannon Elliott Smith was a genius, plain and simple. He's my favorite artist of all time. Glad to find someone else who loves him. Also, "Minus Ah Um" is one of the best jazz albums ever recorded. I need to get into the rest of Mingus' catalogue. What do you recommend? Oh, and Fugazi recommendations would be greatly appeciated as well. I've been meaning to get into that band for ages. Shomer shabbos, Dude.
| patrickfannon We dig similar music and you are Mr. Lebows-- The Dude, man. I think we'd get along swell. Great taste, sir.
| greg84 I suspect you haven't heard this either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yVuBIwQh-M
| greg84 Their latest, this year's Born Ugly is excellent. Start with this one.
| greg84 If you're into blues check out these guys: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToWRu367xJY I seem to be the only one on here who likes them.
| clercqie I'll add him to my list, I think I know someone who has all his stuff, so acquiring things shouldn't be too hard :)
| Divine We should form a Joy Division tribute band called "Unknown Feathers"
| iFghtffyrdmns hahaha yeah I think americanohno wrapped it up pretty well for you. see how it hits you, if you're really not keen on reviewing that you can let me know and I'll toss you something else and maybe even review mr carll myself
| americanohno here's a link for that hayes carll album: http://www.filesonic.com/file/2792448345/Hayes_Carll_-_KMAG_YOYO_And_Other_American_Stories.rar don't be put off by the country label, as long as you like white guy with guitar sings about like music you'll dig the album. if ya don't like that kinna s*** well ya get to practice on a negative review :-)
| iFghtffyrdmns Your Album: Hayes Carll - Kmag Yoyo (uhhhh have fun)
| clercqie Ok, never mind my last post. After jamming to The Members this afternoon, inspiration came :p
| NeutralThunder12 well kind of blue is simply the most important jazz album (it literally created modal jazz, it was done before everyone else tried it, and it also features some of the most important people in classic jazz music, so its really more about the cultural importance). But in no way is it more badass than A Tribute dude omg album slays face
| clercqie Woot! :) If you manage to get a decent review out of it, that would be awesome as well, 'cause I've tried to write one, but the words just don't come...
| clercqie Yeah, they're one of those British punk bands who made 1 album and then called it quits. It's one of my favorite punk albums though. And yeah, lot's of people have that opinion on dEUS' newer albums. I still think they're excellent, but it's an opinion few people share...
| clercqie (Those new dEUS ratings hurt...) But what I actually came to ask was: have you heard The Members? Seeing you're into 'punk with a twist', I think you may like them ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8gGPumATZA
| NeutralThunder12 look somebody who actually knows what the best jazz album ever is
| Deviant. Two Fingers (Tobin side project), Funki Porcini, Xploding Plastix, Bonobo, Eskmo and Eskamon (Eskmo and Tobin)
| clercqie Dropping in to say that Portico Quartet is beyond amazing, so I have even more confidence in the awesomeness of your recs :)
| GROK i am 420yeah666yeah69, and SWORD reborn
| clercqie Well yeah, I like it primarily as background music, but I'll start giving it more attentive listens :)
| clercqie Wow, you're going overkill ;-) They're all noted! And I'll indeed look for some box sets (as I also did with Billie Holliday actually)
| clercqie Thanks man! Will definitely check those out :D
| clercqie Hey Jeff! I see you have a great portion of Jazz on your pie chart. Would you mind giving me some recs? I'm looking for the loungy, relaxing type (Billie Holiday, Kind of Blue...). Thanks in advance! :)
| Maniac! And Bad Brains for that matter. I think I might love you now.
| Maniac! I don't know you, but you listen to Fugazi, so I must like you.
| sehguh I really haven't gotten into that band yet. I've got their newest and Soundtrack for the Blind downloaded, It will probably be easier listening once I start college next week and am up and about with an iPod.
| sehguh yes mate, I find it's really good background/chill music but when you want an interesting listen it's real great too
| sehguh report back to me once you've listened to Tortoise dude, tell me what you think!
| Trebor. Shouldn't your name be Jeffrey Lewbowski?
