  • SPRFanOf5H Yeah what I meant with 'coronation' is basically the end in which is on the album with "Unabomber". A lot of the words I use that are descriptive I tend to use because believe me, I've done it where I've gone to basics and it just never materialized well in reviews. It's why I've relegated to this venture in my reviews, both for that as well as give this a true analytical side to the review, along with helping the reader visualize the music when I described specific songs, or the album entirely.

  • SPRFanOf5H No worries man, you didn't come off as a dick anyway. I'm an aspiring music journalist so that's why I definitely ask for criticism and advice, it always helps me because I need to progress instead of regress as I continue to write. I'm glad you even gave me an extensive background on what to improve on. It does help, harsh or not so I appreciate it either way seriously man, no worries to apologize :)

  • SPRFanOf5H Hey man can I ask if u can look at a couple of my last reviews and see how they've turned out? I'd love any sort of feedback man, I really appreciated your criticism on my M83 review - definitely helps me know where to aim next.

  • InbredJed I definitely see Lolita as kind of a map-legend of his style.there are messages in that film that come through in all of his work.

  • InbredJed what do you think of Lolita?
    October 17 04:08 AM
  • InbredJed oh absolutely! I'm not saying that AN isn't an exemplary film. In fact, Kubrick spent a great deal of effort making sure that FMJ was not covering the same ground as AN because he regarded it as the quintessential Vietnam film. And now that you mention it, perhaps it was the 3 hour redux edition that I wathced, perhaps its time to re-visit that one!

  • InbredJed Jarmusch has done Broken Flowers, Dead Man, Ghost Dog and Coffee

  • InbredJed Ya Godfathers are obligatory viewing, Apocalypse Now had great sets and performances, but it feels bloated. I honestly think Platoon and FMJ get the point across about Vietnam in more concise and interesting way. (concurrently, I'm not really a fan of most of Michael Mann's stuff for the same reason).

  • InbredJed yeah PTA is great, I have respect for RFAD, but I don't think much of Aronofskys new work.I'm not completely taken with Coppola either, but Scorsese is beyond reproach.Have you checked Jarmusch?

  • InbredJed who else do you enjoy?Btw the top 3 Polanski films imo are:1. Chinatown2. Rosemary's Baby3. The Ninth Gate

  • InbredJed the only director I've found whose skill with long steady cam work rivals or is in any way comparable to Kubrick's is Polanski.Do you enjoy his films?
    October 14 01:25 AM
  • InbredJed I kind of feel like Kubric's (or any special director) movies are a genre unto themselves.

  • InbredJed I'd almost hesitate to call 'The Shining' a horror film. It's certainly horrifying, more so than pretty much any film I can think of (other than stuff by Lynch or Cronenberg), yet its almost a parody of the genre in some ways.
    October 12 10:23 PM
  • InbredJed I personally think that 'The Shining' is in the top 10 greatest films ever made, so that's my #1. I think EWS and FMJ are also spectacular, along with Barry Lyndon, but I think I'd put Lolita and Dr. Strangelove in the 2nd and 3rd places right now. I'm sure 'A Space Odyssey' will knock one out tho, once I watch it.

  • InbredJed wow that's impressive. I have the idea that Stanley completely revolutionized the concept of making films and that no one who directs today has escaped his influence. I really enjoyed Lolita and Dr. Strangelove. I have yet to watch Paths of Glory and I'm saving 2001 for a special moment, because I know that it will be a really unique experience which I'd like to share.

  • InbredJed for most of it yeah!I'd seen The Shining and Full Metal Jacket, but I recently heard some interesting interviews/docs on Kubrick and decided to revisit his entire library. It's been quite the adventure!
    October 11 05:36 PM
  • InbredJed hey.So I've been watching all of Kubrick's films recently...
    October 11 05:45 AM
  • InbredJed I didn't even know you existed, but now I do.Hi.

  • SAPoodle You really 'get' Meshuggah don't you? Your mini-essay in the comments section of your review just blew my mind - thanks.

  • Alastor Thanks, I'm dying to see the new Miyazaki. Good to hear that it's gonna be good. You should check out films by Akira Kurosawa; although very different from Kubrick, he has a similiar "extreme" artistic vision. Mindblowing stuff.

  • Alastor Great taste in films (obviously). What are your other favourites next to Kubrick?

  • CaptainDooRight yeah absolutely no problem bro. It was pleasure besides your music being really good! I highly encourage you to continue with experimenting and creating your own music and style. When you have time available for it[meaning never stress out because that's not what music is about] don't let your talents go to waste. I'll always support you bro and please let me know if you do anything else as I'd love to hear it!;]
    March 10 08:04 PM
  • CaptainDooRight haha yeah bro I know you said you were doing it for fun but you should keep writing music bro and make a band camp page. if you stick to that style I would be a total fan for life!!
    March 10 04:30 AM
  • CaptainDooRight bro thats sounds awesome!! it's pretty lengthy but it's really well put together. the timing is literally perfect. I love the melodies and production too. its a really mellow piece but more variation would have only made it better but again damn that production is spot on!!
    March 10 03:39 AM
  • CaptainDooRight right on bro. do you record and stuff too, got any uploaded samples?
    March 9 10:58 PM

  • Thanatopsis No problem. I just felt the need to reach out when I noticed that you act the same way as I try to do on the Internet. It doesn't hurt that I respect your musical taste quite a bit. If you, wander to my ratings, you'll probably notice I have a ridiculous amount of 5s; I feel very strongly about the things that I like, so my ratings reflect that. I have trouble finding faults in things that I really love. Anyway, you seem like a really good person, so here's to my first Sputnik friend.

  • Thanatopsis So, I was just going through that ridiculous "Djent = s***" thread, and I have to say, of all the people that I have seen on Sputnik, you are the most awesome. You type with excellent grammar and spelling, you express your opinions rationally and nonconfrontationally and try to get others to do the same, and you don't bash different opinions. I'm not too active on here mainly because I don't have the time to spend on here, but if I get to know anyone, I'd like it to be you. Cheers.
