  • ConcubinaryCode Island records also really ****ed them over with debt and refused to promote city when it dropped. They were in a really bad spot after that and I think it bled into the fanbase perception even though the artistic merit in their new stuff was just as high. Theyre also just in a ton of debt, I read in a book recounting that era WatT took like half a million to produce just by itself. FC was like 25k for comparison. Sleazy, sexy, seedy, idk mezzanine just sounds cool. How'd you describe it?

  • ConcubinaryCode Its kind of a sleazy feeling album but I like it for that. Also that it just feels so timeless with wide dynamics despite being almost 30 years old. That does sound so sick, fast to the end kicking off the show in the middle of the crowd. Stay True could've been an amazing closer but artists will play the less popular stuff early. Magnets is at like 233k plays on YouTube music for the highest off No Devo when the lowest played full collapse song is higher than that. City is kinda underrated too

  • ConcubinaryCode I remember you 1'd it iirc which seemed a little harsh to me personally. Um, I might see cattle decapitation next month? Black dahlia is also playing but its on like a Tuesday and it's too late to ask for time off. I think your show will be really fantastic and im super jealous and I hope you have a good time, youre seeing like half of Thursdays discography live so I cant see how it couldn't be. please follow up with your thoughts on the show though, maybe I can experience it metaphysically

  • ConcubinaryCode I knew the minds eye guys name cuz i went to Cle for that converge show and stopped by btw. I knew his name before if I thought of it a little but he is a cool guy. Very involved in music and he talks to college kids about the music stations and ideas of what to play. Coordinates shows i think. They were actually talking about Chat Pile when I was in there so its so surreal how much they've grown in just like 5-6 years. Cool shop though! I picked up mezzanine for like 36$

  • Futures i just love wisconsin so much haha! hard to see myself leaving. and yes the reviews here are really what got me into music and thinking about it on a deeper level. idk where i'd be without sput!

  • ConcubinaryCode Converge were insanely good btw. My friend and I went for poison the well but both of us thought Converge were so much tighter and they played a good variety from their catalog. They played Concubine! :o

  • ConcubinaryCode I saw you picked up the record! Its so fantastic, It plays on so many emotions and feelings. It feels so reminiscent of Always Open Mouth to me in terms of the bleak outlook there is for the world and the decay of society but with a bit of the irony and absurdism backing it all up. GC feels more grounded in the everyday anxieties and horrors though. Its a really special album. Don't sleep on their collab with Hayden Pedigo btw. Its a bit more moody and slow, not as intense but still a bop.

  • Futures no s***??? that's wild haha! best place on earth, i love it here. how are you finding ohio, i've never heard much glowing praise lol! back in the day reviews used to be an even bigger deal i feel, i read all the time and wanted to see what i could do. then came back wanting to really give it a shot and keep at it because i know i have the talent. the site was facing some issues last year and i wanted to step in and help out. glad i did! think i've gotten better and better.
    April 16 04:56 AM
  • Futures much appreciated! i try and give my fullest and most complete effort. takes a bit of time for me to formulate my thoughts haha. and yes so excited for some nice weather, i'm up in wisconsin. where are you if you don't mind? and great to know, thank you! i will absolutely check that out soon. sounds like i would really dig it.
    April 16 03:37 AM
  • Futures hey there! hope you've been well, i remember you were going through a tough time last month. i haven't actually, been busy trying to keep up with my reviews now that i'm staff! what out of their post we do what we want albums would you rec the most?
    April 16 02:29 AM
  • ConcubinaryCode I had no clue about that, I know you had one of their albums on vinyl or cd and I remember hearing it especially that song tou mentioned. that explains their split they did with young Widows. The songs from that are the last 2 off the decayed compilation. Gods Country is really good, their collab with Hayden Pedigo is really emotional. Told you about Armor haha they just toured with HH for IOYWL. Shoutbox text limited sorry lol
    March 24 03:15 AM
  • ConcubinaryCode I feel like you might actually like Chat Pile
    March 22 02:47 PM
  • ConcubinaryCode Evan just doesnt miss, how is he so talented? I listened to the first 3 albums so far and No Trail is easily my favorite so far, like a darker sludge version of nick cave or something. Prisyn and then House Cricks in that order as far as favorites but I like that each one had its own little flavor. Im actually looking more forward to Poison the Well over Converge but both are definitely top tier bands and im expecting a good show and even looking forward to the openers!
    March 22 02:41 PM
  • ConcubinaryCode Great Cold Distance is also really good idk how much you listened to that but LFDGD is probably my favorite too. You gotta trust though cuz new Armor is so good. It sounds different to What To Do but still has the energy if that makes sense. Im convinced that one album before they broke up was just a fluke cuz their new stuff is so pretty. Please give it a chance. Ill definitely check out JJ though, seems like this is what was happening Easy Pain?
    March 18 05:40 PM
  • ConcubinaryCode Yeah, but i was kinda upset that anders left. It was fine but kinda in the way that the latest dgd was fine. It didnt really leave that big am impact on me outside a one or two admitedly pretty songs. City Burials was the last album I really really liked. Im looking forward to Armor for Sleeps new album actually because their last actually really fun and a good comeback. The new Young Widows album wasn't that popular here but I still liked it. Im also seeing Converge and Poison the Well soon!

  • ConcubinaryCode He came as a solo act to support Sparta at the launchpad in Albuquerque. He played an acoustic set and I asked if he heard the Septa cover of War all the Time and he told me they planned on doing a benefit split but it probably fell through. Kinda upset theyre not coming by near me on the City Devolucion tour. Did you like their new singles btw?
    March 13 03:19 PM
  • ConcubinaryCode Yeah, they were. I finally got my picture with Geoff Rickley btw!
    March 11 03:33 AM
  • ConcubinaryCode She's good, just a little older and a bit more cranky. She still likes to cuddle with me in bed. I got an orange tabby to hang with her that I called Cinder but they dont really play with each other like Ember and Alameda did.
    March 9 09:43 PM
  • ConcubinaryCode Yeah, I just always like the vibe of this place and its still good for finding music still. Its ok, things weren't the best as we left it. Im doing ok, though. Adderall has helped. I heard about Alameda too, sorry to hear she's gone. I hope youre doing well too :)

  • JustinKing If you like Skycamefalling, definitely try Poison the Well, Anam Cara, Hopesfall, This Day Forward, Taken, Reflux, Cave In's Until Your Heart Stops, Anah Aevia, and my personal favorite album, Phoenix Mourning's When Excuses Become Antiques. The last one is definitely much more melodic than the rest, but it's a perfect album to me, though I can see why it didn't catch on to others.
    May 31 04:39 AM
  • JustinKing Definitely try Scarlet, Will Haven, Spitfire, As the Sun Sets, Skycamefalling, fordirelifesake, Mercury Switch, Glass Casket, Eighteen Visions' pre-Obsession material, The Destiny Program, The Classic Struggle, Anam Cara, and Byzantine. These are a bit more entry-level, but all are pretty quality.
    May 31 03:22 AM
  • JustinKing Definitely understandable. I got into heavier stuff very early on, so it took me very little time to get used to all kinds of harsh vocals. I always have more recs if you want to try them.
    May 31 02:37 AM
  • JustinKing Mathy is just quicker than saying constantly changing tempos and time signatures. Usually really dissonant and chaotic when applied to hardcore and metal.
    May 30 07:18 PM
  • JustinKing Well, if you're into kinda off the wall mathy stuff, Maharahj is a fairly unique metalcore band. One of the heavier mathy bands I've found. Along with Eyes Upon Separation, With Dead Hands Rising, Uphill Battle, Nehemiah, and The Handshake Murders. Hope you like them!
    May 29 08:25 PM
  • JustinKing All the stuff I've been into lately has definitely walked a tight line between chaotic and melodic. Like A Fall Farewell. for instance. '05-era Rise group with an almost Thursday-meets-Zao kinda sound.
    May 24 04:39 AM
  • JustinKing What kinds of post-hardcore do you like, man? I could probably rec you some stuff.
    May 24 03:38 AM
  • CK Trvth is actually the music of sput user CaptainDooRight, or something like that haha. He's a pretty cool guy. Too bad you didn't dig his music much. Keep me posted if you find some new heavy tunes this year that you think are worthy of a mention ^.^
    May 9 04:51 AM
  • CK Anciients and Trvth are two separate bands. That's probably why you didn't find anything if you were searching them together lol
    May 7 01:36 PM
