  • Lord(e)Po)))ts I'm with you. Finishing my second listen of assume form and I already adore it. Its gonna get better and better
    January 18 08:51 PM
  • Get Low I've tried getting your attention in the Same Trailer, Different Park thread a couple of times, but you didn't seem to notice. Definitely listen to that album if you haven't, as I believe it to be better than Golden Hour, which I know you and your staff-mates love.
    January 18 05:05 PM
  • Atari Of course another option is you could just start with their debut lol. Probably a bit more quirky. I could see someone jumping into TMitR and not really understanding their shtick
    January 18 10:51 AM
  • Atari Not trying to convince you otherwise but I do love them immensely fwiw. Probably more along the lines of Spanish Love Songs or something than Titus Andronicus (drunken, cathartic, insecure). I actually thought Throw Me in The River was overrated at first but nope. Maybe just jam the title track and if that doesn?t hit you like a truck it must just not be for you ;)
    January 18 10:29 AM
  • Atari Throw Me in The River is a 5 haha. But then again so is No One Gets Lost Anymore :P
    January 18 10:16 AM
  • Atari Sowing, have you not heard The Smith Street Band? Only one of the best punk artists of the decade
    January 16 04:07 PM
  • Atari Btw this Radar State I just rated reminds me of Antarctigo Vespucci, I have a feeling you?d dig it
    January 14 09:08 PM
  • Atari ok I'm feeling that new Sharon Van Etten song much more than the other 2 :]
    January 14 07:18 PM
  • BlushfulHippocrene That avi is very pretty.
    January 12 08:40 PM
  • neekafat oooooooooh well that's all it takes to sell me!
    January 12 03:34 PM
  • Frippertronics Rubies is the one to go with, personally. Kaputt might as well be guaranteed a spot on the decade list.
    January 12 01:27 PM
  • neekafat Oh the new EP!
    January 12 10:47 AM
  • neekafat Oooooooh will do (: Where should I start?
    January 12 10:47 AM
  • Frippertronics what does a man got to do to get you to check out Destroyer?
    January 12 02:27 AM
  • Kaiwaz Believe me, there will be more. Oh yes, there will be more.
    January 12 12:17 AM
  • Kaiwaz The Brand New song
    January 11 11:57 PM
  • Kaiwaz what do you think of Simple Man?
    January 11 11:55 PM
  • Atari yeah my 4 might be a bit hasty but at the very least it was a nice surprise! The Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens comparisons are inevitable
    January 11 04:25 PM
  • Atari I slapped a 4 on it just after hearing the opening track lol. I just wanted to have the first rating :D
    January 11 03:08 PM
  • SherlockChris9021 Hi, Sowing, I just find some relatively curious news about Brand New on Alternative Press: you mind post this in the news section?
    January 9 09:19 AM
  • SherlockChris9021 Agreed, the reason why Daisy is so difficult is that it's the most experimental and folky among the bunch.
    January 9 01:43 AM
  • Dewinged Got it, gonna do mine then, just wanted to be sure so I didn't overlap staff's picks. Thanks, man. (Oh and belated happy new year!)
    January 8 09:41 PM
  • SherlockChris9021 Well, I mean the 2000-2009. What I mean is that how would you describe each album's sound in that period, again it's especially I want to know Daisy, like is it art-rock, or neo-grunge?
    January 8 08:41 PM
  • Dewinged Hey Sow, is there gonna be a staff list for January 11th releases?
    January 8 08:16 PM
  • SherlockChris9021 Hi, just want to ask how would you describe Brand New's discography in the 2000s, especially Daisy, since it is the most complicated and vaguest album among the bunch.
    January 8 04:33 AM
  • InFiction No worries at all, I figured that would be the case. I have a pretty big resume and lots of music journalism experience already, but I do still enjoy the heck out of it, so if I have the time for it I'd love to contribute. Just have to see how life goes. Really appreciate the reply, thank you.
    January 6 09:21 PM
  • Tchitcherine If you enjoy El Buho and this genre (slow electronic mixed with world music from different cultures) I would highly recommend to listen to this set, made by one of the greatest producers of this genre: has a tracklist for easy reference and features only beautiful things. Also everything from Thomash and the Voodoohop collective for a more weird beautiful vibe:
    January 6 05:40 AM
  • InFiction Hey Sowing,Sorry if you?re the wrong person to direct this question, but I was enquiring about the details of Sputnik?s contributing roles? Is there any financial compensation for this job, or is it strictly voluntary? I?ve been with Sputnik close to 10 years now (end of 2009) and would love to undergo a more active role for the website, but I also have to pay rent and whatnot. Appreciate any help you can give me.
    January 3 08:49 PM
  • DropTune Let me know what you think man. Thanks for helping me with my reviews this year.
    December 31 12:44 PM
  • FreddieDelaney31 It really is a hidden gem, especially strange when your singer is Joaquin Phoenix's sister lmao. But yeah the vocals and songwriting dynamics are both stunning.
    December 30 11:49 AM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Ah cool, gotcha - cheers!!
    December 28 09:04 PM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Hey Sowing, sorry if you're the wrong guy to ask for this (I vaguely remember it being a mod-related query), but what are the chances of being able to change my username? My current handle overlaps with both my real name and my email address, and I'd much prefer a little more anonymity since I'm getting back into using this site...
    December 28 08:57 PM
  • Voivod Hello Sowing and merry christmas, this album is self-described as indie folk with a '90s background, so when I read this, I thought I should make you aware of album's existence, check it out like whenever -
    December 28 04:56 AM
  • Atari much love. I can't believe Agalloch isn't on the list though, I was just joking lmao figured they'd be a shoe in. The Mantle and Ashes are two of the best albums of that decade
    December 27 12:03 PM
  • Atari do you happen to have a link to the last decade list? If Agalloch isn't there I'm gonna be pissed ;)
    December 27 11:50 AM
  • clavier Hey, sorry I forgot to mention this earlier but I made a typo in the interview: "one good thing I have in my own" should actually be "one good thing I have in my home". Thanks!
    December 27 02:43 AM
  • Atari I'm jamming Mannheim Steamroller right now, haha
    December 20 11:58 AM
  • Uzumaki I?d like to rev something for you: they?re called Slowtrip, and they have an EP out called ?Blur?. I think this would fall in quite nicely with your tastes, and if you listen to it, lemme know what you think!
    December 18 07:44 AM
  • Shamus248 I have a rec for ya. If you like old school sounding pop punk, try Send Request. lemme know what you think
    December 15 10:44 PM
  • SherlockChris9021 Thanks, I just have a scare after there is a flurry of comment war and a surge of tasteless jokes in my TDAG review. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement. Still, love your TDAG avatar.
    December 12 04:54 AM
  • neekafat Hey man! Could you spare a sec to throw in a rec for the SOTD list please? Membership is dwindling and I'd like to have some more recs before we have to ask for 2nds c:
    December 12 03:47 AM
  • SherlockChris9021 Hi, Sowing, I just want to say that I love the fact that you use BN's TDAG album cover and add some Christmas elements to it as your new avatar. BTW, I am considering writing a review of BN's Science Fiction (after finishing my currently resting review series and a few more random reviews), do you think I should? I afraid that there will be jerks in this website going to make tasteless jokes and attack me on this website.
    December 11 10:01 PM
  • DoofDoof Good purchase! Have to say - his previous (2008) album 'The Opiates: Revised' is even better too, so make sure to get to that one too
    December 11 11:32 AM
  • Lucman Hey Sowing, I have a rec for ya! Discovered it through Neeks list. It's Novo Amor's Birthplace. It has the elegance of a Bon Iver record along with plenty of ambient flourishes. It couldn't be more up your alley of ot tried.
    December 11 06:19 AM
  • tyman128 sweet, just got around to checking out that album, such a killer jam. The track just reminded me of your username
    December 10 01:49 PM
  • tyman128 random question, is your name from Brand New?

  • ZombieToyDuck In case you need convincing to check that mid-air thief album...
    December 5 10:01 AM
  • Tyler. Is it worth hiring 24 fourth graders to color the siding of your house with crayon if you want hot rod flames?
    December 4 11:12 PM
  • Papa Universe I call to it a policy that at dawn of every winter, SowingSeason must change his name to SnowingSeason until the winter passes.
    December 2 07:08 PM
  • Hawks When?s the next round of applications for contrib???? Think I?m gonna pick up reviewing more like I used to and apply. Figure I?ve been here long enough and I have almost 100 reviews lol.
    November 30 08:09 PM
  • bgillesp RKS review coming?
    November 30 06:32 PM
  • Lucman New Ryan Key is so good!
    November 30 05:17 PM
  • tyman128 ah makes sense, I?m still behind on quiet a few albums that I?m trying to spin, but pretty unsuccessfully haha. I?ve been too engrossed in jamming older stuff that I?ve never listened to before and taking in how great music was before it was over polluted with generic and mainstream radio stuff
    November 28 10:19 AM
  • guitarded_chuck hey man nah i appreciate that and im sorry for going overboard about it myself. you need not continue to feel bad about it, live and learn brother, that goes for both of us. feels good to move on, water under the bridge.
    November 28 09:52 AM
  • Dylan620 Thoughts on the new Frog singles? They've got a new album/EP coming out on Friday

    November 21 11:02 AM
  • neekafat You're right, and my break just started so I'm hoping to get back on the reviewing train so I might start there too! I have a lot to say about it lol
    November 18 09:44 PM
  • neekafat That's fair (: Was thinking of doing that or either a track-by-track review list thing, kinda like an addendum to my complete ranking thing haha
    November 18 09:34 PM
  • neekafat Hey man! I know it's probably a sure thing, but do you happen to know if any staff have dibs on the new Smashing Pumpkins release?
    November 18 09:16 PM
  • Kaiwaz How is Deja Entendu? I haven't listened to it yet. On a big Daisy kick lately. Might 5 that one.

  • dbizzles Great Imagine Dragons review. Was gonna say as much in the thread, but I'll be damned if that end ups in My Discussions.
    November 9 05:19 PM
  • zakalwe Imagine Dragons review is class. Nice one dude.
    November 9 12:18 PM
  • Lord(e)Po)))ts i hope all is well with you too!
    November 7 10:51 PM
  • Lord(e)Po)))ts glad im not alone! its to the point that ive had to get off of social media like facebook and instagram to preserve my own sanity and stay focused on my immediate priorities. having a sense of humour about the endless knee-jerkery and outrage helps but sometimes the constance of the catastrophic animosity s***-storm makes it very difficult for me to manage my rather vocal inner cynic. squabbling over music opinions is a welcome respite, im doomed to return to sput forever.
    November 7 10:50 PM
  • ZombieToyDuck Hey! I got a song you may like, just seems like your gig. Give it a go! Plus this EP is in need of a review and I hope this track convinces you
    November 6 06:44 PM
  • Jethro42 Hi Sowing, thanks for your recent services. As you know, I have hard time to upload cover arts. They ask for a JPG or JPEG format. How the hell do you convert them?
    November 3 12:38 PM
  • tyman128 alright, I?ll just annoy you till you listen to it then :)Clamfight - IIII gave this a review a while back and still hold it up there as one of my favorite metal albums this year

    October 28 02:26 AM
  • JohnnyoftheWell Heya man, I've been putting together a colossal list of every single Thrice song (incl. b-sides) ranked with descriptions and am a bit unsure on formatting given that there are about 120 tracks in all and it won't fit into a single list; what would your vibe be? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it in any case, especially given the shape of your Palms list... ;]
    October 27 01:07 PM
  • greencorn5 I see you 1'd Greta, good job. If you'd like to hear a real artist from Michigan please check out Flint Eastwood. She's a pretty unique pop artist and I feel like you would dig her music. I give her ep Small Victories a 5/5

    October 22 07:27 PM
  • BlushfulHippocrene Hello Sowing. (: Have you heard any Novo Amor? You may like his new album Birthplace. Very winding, expansive folk music a la self-titled Bon Iver / S Carey.
    October 21 02:14 AM
  • Kaiwaz have you heard Body Language yet? Please check dude
    October 13 06:42 PM
  • Kaiwaz I'm on a huge Kylie Minogue kick lately, have you heard much of her material?
    October 12 09:30 PM
  • lalchimiste Hi Sowing, I just wanted to drop by to thank you again for all the exposure for the Allelic LP to our fellow Sputnikers (the feature on the list and the wonderful review)!
    October 11 03:45 PM

    October 9 04:27 PM
  • suk6er7l7p ayy dude, i know we've had our differences n s***, but i would really appreciate it if you could give this a peep and (if you've got a spare dollar, and like the idea) possibly chip in a buck or two: . may not align with your political ideologies much but ehhh that's the price of certain terms. much love, sach
    October 9 03:47 PM
  • neekafat Thanks man, adding them to the list! (:
    October 7 01:12 PM
  • Desdinova hello men,, have good weekend okay,, thank?
    October 6 12:44 PM
  • Artuma you're new to cursive? damn you've been missing out
    October 6 10:28 AM
  • heyadam Haha sorry dude, retrospectively that seemed invasive for me to just ask for them. I was out and my phone would not load their bandcamp properly and I was desperate for some lyrics lol. Their manager posted a download of them in the subreddit
    October 5 03:07 AM
  • ZombieToyDuck Allelic was incredible, definitely going to listen to it!
    October 4 04:59 PM
  • tyman128 alright, no worries man, just making sure before I do something stupid with it haha. I?ll just write up a review tonight and submit when I land
    October 3 06:04 PM
  • tyman128 it?s for Trench, just to clarify
    October 3 05:42 PM
  • tyman128 hey, I?ve got over a day of airplane travel coming up tomorrow and I really wanna keep on track with my twenty one pilots series, is there anyway I can get the review up a day or two before it releases?
    October 3 05:41 PM
  • heyadam Yo dude! Is there anyway you can email me those lyric screenshots? The first listen was so chaotic (but still amazing), and the second listen is going to definitely require lyrics in front of me.!
    October 2 01:24 AM
  • Atari hell yeah! been looking forward to her new one and it doesn't disappoint. glad you enjoy her man. some stunning stuff :)
    October 1 03:57 PM
  • Valkoor952 " I didn't think that the list-creator repeatedly saying "I hope you get raped" was conducive to assured continuation of a mature discussion."That was me quoting sinternet multiple times as to show his abhorrent behavior. The reason you didn't see this was probably because Id his comments, like I said I do. Hence, controlling the list.
    October 1 01:13 PM
  • Valkoor952 Now why did you the list ? Just because Sinternet is an immature 12 year old and can't discuss something like a normal person, doesn't mean the others can't either. Id his comments, and was going to control things. You don't have to 90% of the threads just because some dickhead decided to act self-righteous and insult people. That's why they are lists, people can control who comments and who doesn't.
    October 1 01:05 PM
  • neekafat I'd love if you left a few recs!
    October 1 01:10 AM
  • bgillesp Friendly reminder on that RKS review and also a suggestion to check the new LA Salami because it's somewhat reminiscent (at least lyrically to me) of I Tell A Fly
    September 30 10:33 AM
  • Gyromania the chorus in Mitama gets me every time, I just think it's really powerful. Probably the most accessible song on the album. I really need to give it another chance to grow. And yea I 5 things these days with reckless abandon! lol :P if I'm super into something I'll sometimes just immediately slap a 5 on it and then adjust accordingly in the future
    September 30 08:06 AM
  • Gyromania same here. so close to a 5 for me. ben howard i heard once and loved, gotta revisit that. same goes for wolves... according to I've played Mitama 42 times this year lmao. i think i judged the album a little too quickly. if i can connect with the rest of it as much as Mitama I'd probably think it's a masterpiece, and i sorta wrote the rest of it off after a couple listens
    September 30 07:56 AM
  • Atari don?t forget new Restorations out today ;)
    September 28 01:47 PM
  • neekafat For sure! I'm thinking of reviewing it because I want to start doing more stuff on new Chicago artists. Also I think her Midnight Moonlight EP might be even better
    September 28 11:59 AM
  • neekafat Ravyn Lenae is so good, nice rating on that EP. Thinking even a 4.0
    September 28 09:17 AM
  • Gyromania Oh man. The hype! Nice Imogen Heap rating btw. Such an underrated album. Moment I Said It is just perfect
    September 26 10:33 PM
  • Gyromania Is "Julia" the best song?
    September 26 10:12 PM
  • Atari I recently discovered her music videos for the new album and now I'm even more in love with her lol
    September 25 03:55 PM
  • ShadowNeko Woah. Now that's really dope my friend. Why did he 2 score his own album though? LOL X'D
    September 25 03:36 PM
  • Gyromania New mwY is a 5 eh? Hype! When is it out?
    September 25 01:35 PM
  • Atari I think you?d like this new Elise Davis. Gorgeous country pop album!
    September 22 05:31 PM
  • GreyShadow Thanks!
    September 22 01:57 AM
  • lalchimiste Hi SowingSeason, I'm the user behind the Allelic project. I remember that you enjoyed the EP I released back in May 2018 and noticed it's appearance on some of the lists you published. I have my first LP coming out on October 12th and I was wondering if you would be interested in hearing a promo. If you are too busy to check it out I understand, just let me know because I know see that Atari seem to have enjoyed the EP as well and could ask him/her if he/she would be interested. Thanks!
    September 21 02:33 PM
  • GreyShadow Also! Not entirely sure if you recall but I was one of the victors of your contest when we had to recommend you stuff (I gave you There Will Be Fireworks - River) and you had mentioned that if I wanted a feature I should let you know. That was super generous of you and it's about time I cash that in. Would you mind featuring my most recent list? I'm trying to promote my first LP. Thanks in advance, it would be a nice help :)
    September 21 02:02 PM
  • GreyShadow oh that would definitely be the best plot twist haha
    September 21 01:58 PM

  • DropTune Hey Sowing, I wanted to get your opinion about writing styles. I recently posted my first review in 3 months ( This review is written closer to AP style whereas my previous reviews were more like an essay. I wanted to get your advise on writing a more professional review. Thanks!
    September 19 05:34 PM
  • ShadowNeko How did you listen to the new MWY album?
    September 19 04:21 PM
  • Lucman Hey Sowing, I got a rec I think you'll like. A real solid pop/punk record similar to Blink abd Yellowcard.

    September 16 10:29 PM
  • fromtheinside not commenting in the thread cuz it's not worth to probably create drama, i was just commenting on something i saw. your yellowcard reviews an others make sense in a way, but if every single review is your feeling dotdotdot you could understand where it gets tiring, no?

  • bgillesp Do you still plan on reviewing the RKS album this year?
    September 15 04:16 PM
  • Divaman So what IS the feature time limit? I always figure 3 weeks max from release date.
    September 14 08:15 PM
  • FreddieDelaney31 So how ridiculously incredible is Beyond The Pines?
    September 14 08:11 PM
  • neekafat Hey Sowing if you like it, I think my latest review just barely fits your feature time limit (;
    September 14 04:02 AM
  • oneups stumbled on this recently and thought for some reason that you might enjoy it. Feels like 2000s pop punk but with a lot of modern aesthetics and some really above average lyricism for the genre. Vocalist is very solid as well. Found myself enjoying the whole thing and they seem pretty unheard of, thought maybe you would enjoy a spin. Hope all is well!
    September 10 06:24 PM
  • Toondude10 don't know how much of a pop-rock-ish mood you're in but I think you'd like this
    September 10 05:50 PM
  • bgillesp I'm honestly shocked its not a 4.3 to you but still glad you liked it
    September 9 07:45 PM
  • tyman128 I know this is a stretch, but is there a way we can either get my review or get a staff to review the new Elemantra album and feature it? I think they deserve some recognition in the community

    September 3 11:30 AM
  • Kaiwaz I'm good! If you wanna come hang out I'm in discord. I caved with Brand New. I had to listen to it again. I'm trying not to though because I want to have this summer's memories embedded in the album when I revisit it next year. It's so hard! Science Fiction is easily the best album of 2017. Eaaaaaaasily.

  • Feather haha the early/mid 20s alcohol binge is definitely still going strong, working on cutting some of that though ... it can really ruin all productivity on the weekends.

    August 18 02:52 PM
  • tyman128 Okay, I'm pretty sure this is a dumb question, but I just wanna make sure. Is the "unwritten" rule 1 review per front page or 1 review per day?
    August 18 02:08 PM
  • Feather I've been doing great! Got my first year under my belt at this point of being out of college and living in the "real world". tbh now that I'm out I've become quite a concert junkie and just have been really enjoying the freedom of being able to really do what I want. How about yourself?
    August 18 02:05 AM
  • theBoneyKing Good, good... Seriously though I wouldve though Transatlanticism would be an easy 4.5-5 for you - it?s in my top 5 OAT.

  • ComeToDaddy Weird, it's the 17th here in Australia so maybe Spotify releases based on the 17th in your timezone. Is it still the 16th where you are? Either way, it's delightful, real pleasant and mellow and I imagine it'll work brilliantly in tandem with the new LP if it's as heavy as they've teased
    August 16 10:53 PM
  • Atari yeah lmao
    August 16 04:34 PM
  • Atari Funny how bands the staff are ranking are randomly putting out stuff all of a sudden (Thrice, Say Anything, Mewithoutyou).
    August 16 03:06 PM
  • Atari good timing haha. I'll just wait until tomorrow to hear the EP in full :) Brother, Sister really is fantastic though, I could see myself bumping it up

  • heyadam Thanks my dude! I'm trying to only listen to it like one or two more times and then hold off until the whole project comes out. This is proving to be a difficult task already haha
    August 13 10:43 PM
  • Lucman Sweet! Thanks for the heads up, Sowing :D
    August 13 09:41 PM
  • Gyromania Haha I did that as a troll and just never changed it. It's a 4/5 for me. And thanks! Will check when I get home
    August 13 09:32 PM
  • FreddieDelaney31 Ayyy, that's awesome! I'm obsessed with how dense and textured the production is, the production was so sanitized on Pale Horses
    August 13 08:40 PM
  • botb Nice! Good looking out!
    August 13 08:38 PM
  • TheSpaceMan Thanks man, appreciate it. That was my understanding of the chain of importance, so it was odd to see a few over taken
    August 13 05:19 PM
  • TheSpaceMan Hey man, hope all is well. Just came thru to ask why all my reviews relinquished their default standing to more recent user reviews, for example Horrors - V and Fishmans - Long Season
