 | Demon of the Fall I can read two days but thanks for the offer (maybe... sometimes there's a lot!)
 | Demon of the Fall any particular thread? That's part of the reason I don't use it much (it's hard to keep up!)
 | Demon of the Fall Sput being back in action removes my desire for such things. In fact sometimes I forget it exists. I'll try and be 'better' tho, lol
 | Demon of the Fall Coming across shiny new 4s is making me nerf some historic ones by proxy, lol this was NOT the plan! (hopefully more 5s incoming eventually, it's a process)
 | Demon of the Fall Neptunian Maximalism do be rather good innit? I have offered some (further) thoughts itt and settled on a temporary(?) rating
 | Demon of the Fall Lorca hit the 'heady' heights of 3.5 a while ago. Happy Sad is currently in second place. All in good time.
 | Demon of the Fall hopefully this is the case. Nice Scum rating. I have finally done the deed and promoted Star Sailor. Blessed moment.
 | Demon of the Fall are you familiar with this? - https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/gato/the-third-world/
 | Demon of the Fall nice viagr aboys rating, we agree on a lot of "bad things" it seems, lol
 | Demon of the Fall I genuinely think it may be a fundamentally flawed concept? ?atmospheric djent? ? okay, but why?
 | Demon of the Fall Stereolab ? yeah Johnny advised me against commenting on that thread
 | Futures so true my man. i often wonder what's the point of keeping coming here given the nonsense i see but people like you keep me around. i wish we listened to more similar stuff haha!
 | Futures keeping me sane here brother
 | nash1311 If you arent allowed to pick any of the quintessential jazz artists (you know the list), who would be your top 5 lesser known or underappreciated outside them? And in conjunction, can you give me a top 5 modern jazz artists for you? Im majorly in the dark about good modern jazz outside of like Brian Blade and folks like that
 | onionbubs been dippin my feet in the big cats after being largely blind to jazz. any other essential names i should dig up?
 | Demon of the Fall I wouldn't go so far as to say I loathed it, but that style of deftonescore has never really been my thing and adding djenty junz to proceedings is almost always a net negative. Only checked because they're a fairly hyped somewhat localish core band and I was curious
 | Demon of the Fall yeah! I'm on a bit of a suckfest at the minute as you can see lol (although I have many promotions and positive ratings in the pipeline and I need to! ... it just 'feels easier' to slap those low / middling scores down immediately for some reason)
 | Hawks Hell yeah will do bro! Gonna turn that on in a few minutes!
 | Demon of the Fall Cool. Maybe I'll have to wait for a long train journey then! Bookmarked
 | Demon of the Fall I take it the previous Neptunian Maximalism album is well worth the 2 hour stint. I struggle with "repeated listening" for things of such unwieldy length tho, so I dunno
 | Demon of the Fall after reading thru the NPI thread, the urge to create a parody / "in jest" list of Johnny's fave discogs ranked, with a purposeful 1% effort and level of dissection is quite strong ngl
 | nash1311 Yessir! I?ve reviewed your lists before for inspiration haha. I dig several in the 4/10 range and 1-2 in the 6/10 range but I haven?t been able to level up from there lol
 | Pikazilla discog run date once I hit 11,111; you heard it here first
 | Colton I don't want to commit to too specific of a date but it will be this year 100%
 | Hawks Coltrane and Davis got me into it so hard. It's becoming one of my favorite genres really quickly.
 | Hawks Found it from your list! :] So damn good bro.
 | Hawks Hell yeah buddy gonna jam it HARD.
 | Colton I got you. can you give me an email to use for your account?
 | Hawks Those drums are INSANE!! Will do bro. Think I'm gonna go on a little binge.
 | Hawks Starting to go through your top 100 jazz list on RYM!!
 | Demon of the Fall lets go with "soon"(?)... your Neurosis ratings are making me reconsider tho. Yet "A Promise" may have pulled it back into contention - all very confusing
 | Colton you won?t be silenced on coltonmusic
 | Demon of the Fall I?m looking forward to yours. Happy holidays, hope you had / are having a good one!
 | Demon of the Fall I was planning on doing in the first week of Jan, then realised I didn?t care ENOUGH about 2024 to be thorough and got it ?over and done with? lol? still, I made SOME effort!
 | Demon of the Fall https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=1097747 - where?s yours? ?
 | tectactoe Your original assessment was largely correct, just a bit too (uninterestingly, imo) "proggy", mostly dug the DsO-adjunct sections, but at that point why not just listen to FAS? Will czech Veilburner.
 | Demon of the Fall Veilburner seems like a surer (less risky) rec. I would fall off my chair if you disliked that one.
 | Demon of the Fall I am disappoint! ? thought it was a rather interesting mix of ideas. It almost seems purposefully obtuse in a stop / start teasing way at times but you?re a bit of a weirdo, so wasn?t sure if you?d dig that, haha
 | Demon of the Fall It's closer to a 3.5 than a 3 :-) maybe soon? ... I've only heard IO once, but I was really quite impressed. It's definitely prog, but in a disso / avant / bit jazzy almost 'Driver-like' way and the prod gives it a really menacing atmos. Probably not for everyone but you may dig it!
 | Demon of the Fall Depends. I have little experience outside of The Necks, SUMAC and Eflluence (all v good) and maybe something else I'm forgetting. I like some free jazz tho (as you are aware), so maybe I have the potential to enjoy other 'looser' forms of music?
 | Futures makes a lot of sense haha. sadly others here did not grow up, alas. our taste seems pretty far apart but i do like when we cross paths, down to talk about jams anytime man.
 | Futures haha glad to do it man. idk if we interacted much back in the day or if you were even active back then. just know you bring a level headed saneness here and i appreciate it.
 | Futures i enjoy your presence on this husk of a website.
 | SandwichBubble Yo, inter-site thank you for the Fashion Tips rec. I'll check them out when I have the time.
 | Winesburgohio ...aaaaand you've already rated it. extreme whoops and egg strewn across my brow. consider this a hope you're well post and I hope you'll come back to the theatre when the time is right, i'll keep the popcorn warm xx
 | Winesburgohio I know that with the various pressures exerted on you and the vicissitudes of life accumulate in such a way as to (hopefully temporarily?) deprive you of film, but if you have five (5) minutes to spare I strongly Strongly recommend Takashi Ito's "Ghost". You could even watch it on the toilet...
 | Demon of the Fall only checked the EP (recently) because it was highly rated, think it must be a 'you had to be there' sort of deal, maybe - seemed like a few folk's love of it is nostalgia-fuelled. Nothing wrong with that. Wrong time for me
 | Demon of the Fall if anything you may have been too kind on Saosin (and Julie). 2/5 for the former already, feeling a 2/5 for the latter
 | Dewinged I LOVED Starsailor, but... didn't love Lorca :/
 | Demon of the Fall Hang on, why haven't you heard Mark Hollis's S/T album? I'm shocked
 | Demon of the Fall Ryuichi Sakamoto is all over this album apparently and it's STILL boring, like what? Surely that's impossible, lol
 | Demon of the Fall whoa, that "David Sylvian - Secrets..." rating... it hasn't actually grabbed me either yet, was seeking solace in like-minded individuals
 | Demon of the Fall Maybe one day, thanks. I'm just hoovering up classics at the mo. Unless there's an essential 'try this one next' you can think of?
 | Demon of the Fall I've never seen it. I didn't even know there was a connection before coming across Julee's "Floating"
 | Demon of the Fall yeah, it's wholly not my thing either. I made the mistake of commenting, oops (only active thread here seemingly / I was bored, but at least it's not the flagged review!)
 | Demon of the Fall I see that Charli rating, you cannot escape my gaze! (seriously tho, I'm hoping to go undetected when mine drops too, lol)
 | Demon of the Fall I was almost considering a 4.5. Early days tho. Heard it 8 times within the first three days of release. Calming it down and letting things settle now!
 | Hawks Will do for sure buddy.
 | Demon of the Fall cultural relevance adjacent curiosity checks are important sometimes, but yes it was pretty bad as expected
 | Demon of the Fall I will consider this, thanks... still need to (priority) chk Serpent Column's debut! And listen to Kathodos again
 | Demon of the Fall Okay. Sounds like a tough sell at the minute simply because I have a backlog even where DM is concerned and I haven't even listened to MA or Immo for like a year or something, lol. Interesting rec tho, cheers
 | evilford Lol u know it bro. Most obnoxious band of all time
 | Demon of the Fall where's your Leichenschrei rating? It's on my list and just noticed you don't have it rated (RYM)
 | bighubbabuddha We both rate Piper At The Gates of Dawn and Bad Moon Rising as a 5 :D
 | Demon of the Fall Hmm, yeah I do vaguely remember only because I recall making a joke about 'false advertising' on the account of their name. Strange. Maybe we were talking about it somewhere else?
 | Demon of the Fall nope, not heard... why were you assuming I had? Does seem popular with my RYM 'friends' (all Sputters) despite the fairly low no. of total ratings
 | Azazzel saw you talking about database chart surfing Sonemic in 2020 to discover stuff. still the same or got a better method? been finding good stuff finessing the exclusively 'influence' not dominant genre tag and limiting years like so https://rateyourmusic.com/charts/top/album/1990-1994/s:melodic-death-metal/
 | Rowhaus sick rec bro that was a wild ride lol
 | Dewinged Tec did you hear that Sleepwalker record already? It might speak to you, make you feel feelings.
 | Dewinged Oh my oh my that looks indeed amazing dude, thanks! Hopefully the kid gives me a respite tomorrow so I can jam it in peace.
 | Demon of the Fall veers into the 'wrong kind of flashy tech' too frequently for me, it's a touchy area... also, the production was slight off at points I felt, lacked oomph
 | nash1311 I?m bad with properly identifying/naming jazz subs lol but I mostly prefer smooth/cool/fusion over free/bebop etc. Coleman is the first of the free jazz artists I?m seeming to enjoy. Was going to try Albert Ayler next. I gravitate toward the slower darker Smokey bar sounds but also Bitches Brew is prob my fave all time so I?m not opposed to busy either in the right context
 | nash1311 Hi friend! You have great taste. Would appreciate any and all jazz recs any time. I have also Czech?d your lists. Cheers!
 | Demon of the Fall I can confirm Dead Congregation slap! Perfect for a day of hell ? ?
 | Demon of the Fall I?m betting it was. I keep forgetting about that band. Added to my wishlist
 | Demon of the Fall accidentallyd your comment! Oops. Was it Dead Congregation? Briefly saw it before deleting.
 | Demon of the Fall Hmm. Okay then. I?ll accept that because it?s a high bar (better than Tomb Mold for me tho). Slightly different flava regardless. My associated brainwave was The Cyclic Reckoning, but it seems you already dig that one
 | Demon of the Fall oh and while I'm here, good call on Kostnateni... that album is fire!
 | Demon of the Fall I have NEARLY finished adding my rating to RYM, honestly! (seriously I'm at 'We' alphabetically)
 | Demon of the Fall have you heard 'Lustral Purge in Cerulean Bliss'? RYM is telling me no (realised RYM is waaaaaaay easier than checking here, oops) ' friends' = nil :-(
 | Dewinged Nah I requested a wipe. I was a bit saturated and wanted to revisit my classics for a while. The avatar on the other hand... :(
 | Demon of the Fall Doh! Yeah, thought you might have but my eyes deceived me / was on mobile so couldn?t ctrl f
 | Demon of the Fall https://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/50450/Murmuure-Murmuure/Have you heard this mate? You might have. Didn?t notice you after a quick rating skim
 | Dewinged I asked the other staffers and no one answered so I'd say it's your time to shine my dear. Absolutely no rush though, life comes first!
 | Dewinged Hey tec, you sure you don't wanna write a review for "Echoes" yourself? I am might take until next week to review it and since I already wrote up Arrival it would be cool if you did this one! If you don't wanna do it that's also fine, I'll definitely write smth for it soonish, but thought you may be interested in giving it a shot too, what say you friend?
 | GhandhiLion wait, wtf yachty released a psychedelic rock album
 | Colton claims to like experimental music, 2's Lil Yachty
 | Dewinged hey man, just came across this album with someone saying "for fans of Serpent Column" and I immediately thought about you. They are from China and I only have skimmed a bit but they sound solid. Let's see what you think! https://hoplites.bandcamp.com/album/--2
 | Demon of the Fall me neither, usually... Oceansize have something special about them though. I think the atypical post-rock structures and arrangements are really beautifully done. They manage to avoid a lot of the missteps modern prog bands make imo.
 | Demon of the Fall came in here to say ... RYM would show you all my ratings for last year, rendering my explanation pointless!
 | JohnnyoftheWell Heyhey, have been running over some Thoughts post-Postgate, and tl;dr I'm sorry for piling on you. I don't think any of the individual content of those posts fell below the level of things you ( I) have said in past contexts, but more importantly there was a bad humour over the whole thing, and I'd like to apologise for that, especially since it got the collateral with Colton's usual stultified bs. You're a good dude and it was v unfair of me to let my attitude to the latter rub off onto you - maybe this site does need more Actual Music Discourse and fewer stews hmm
 | Colton I only talk about Bowie with people who acknowledge the greatness of Life On Mars and something tells me you're one of the people that doesn't acknowledge it
 | JohnnyoftheWell Sooo refer to this [incoming link], but editing privileges don't actually correlate with site status afaik - after you've made a certain number of edits, they tend to go straight through https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=1067520
 | Demon of the Fall Good tip, thanks! Yeah it reminded me of Drum?s Not Dead era Liars in places but less consistently rhythmic and a greater emphasis on abstract noisiness.
 | Demon of the Fall we rated Diamond Eyes on the same day, how curious... pretty accurately as well, haha
 | parksungjoon https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/mal-waldron-jimmy-jackson-eberhard-weber-fred-braceful/the-call/
 | Demon of the Fall Gospel is cheating, I have Moon 5d ?? but yes it is unusual. I?ll be back to my old self in no time (not added many ratings of late, hate doing it on mobile).
 | parksungjoon https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=199679
 | Colton it was originally unprovoked but now it is
 | Colton there's varying degrees of dogs*** in that list but your #1 takes the cake honestly. you shoutboxed me asking me to **** you up because you knew it's what you deserved after ranking such a flaccid soggy british failure so high
 | Demon of the Fall I did explain in the thread (probably badly). I don't actually want to rate anything else now, current selection looks pretty!
 | Colton just out of curiosity what is your favourite album of the year that also has relatively few ratings and thus an easily damageable average?
 | neekafat Sounds great! Yeah I definitely need to get on that Criterion stuff, and dont worry I need a little time to get things settled down too hahaha
 | neekafat Yes so down! I haven't actually seen any of his features so I'd love to finally have an excuse to get on that
 | neekafat Yeah that?s what I meant! And I?m not sure, I?d bet you?ve already seen most of the ones I?d be suggesting, hbu??
 | JohnnyoftheWell woo okay can we share the rowdy seats at the back of the spacebus i am excited. and yesyes, learnt to love 2021 at the last minute but am finding it easier and easier to forget how every week that passes. big times
 | JohnnyoftheWell oh that was actually in ref to your modal rating for the apparently 2.5 average year lol, dw your frequent online presence sparks joy but there's no way i thought you were enough of an e-boi for glitch princess ;]
 | JohnnyoftheWell yeah, it's funny how in a site so dominated by heavy music, a relatively small number of people go in hard for noise rock outside of Daughters, SY and I guess the Jesus Lizard hmmm. much work to be done on that front (am still fighting for the supremacy of that pie chart slice over alt rock...)
 | JohnnyoftheWell hot damn, cool s***! v cool - gives me black eyes vibes in places, albeit slower and less shrieky
 | neekafat I would kill to join you on one sometime!
 | neekafat Hahaha that's awesome dude! Love it, loved your ranked director lists (:
 | neekafat are you just like a major film buff or do you work in the industry??
 | Dewinged It's 1972 so definitely! Coming next year!
 | Pikazilla Nice! I also checked Leshiy and it was good!
 | Dewinged Really good stuff man, I think I will bump it even more if I find time for more listens. There's just so much music out there bro...
 | Atari I like anything as long as it?s done well haha. I?ll check it out, cheers!
 | SandwichBubble It's true. I'm a fraud who has only heard their (awesome) live album. Since you reminded me, I'll check it as soon as I can.
 | EyesWideShut your the only dude who's rankings I trust and enjoy. You put that heart into it.
 | DDDeftoneDDD lol of course its all over the place - https://f4.bcbits.com/img/0024359735_10.jpg - eheh - btw forgot to mention, although more jammy hardrock and playful, it made me think a lot of Mefitis.
 | DDDeftoneDDD okay bro this can be my kind of jam. lol love the band's vibe too (pics, cover etc eheh)
 | GhandhiLion I checked this before. Thanks for the rec though.
 | Colton every sweet trip album has fewer ratings than CIS
 | Colton I can offer you a 4 in exchange for a Sweet Trip discog 5 otherwise it stays (I don?t remember the album but I remember when I heard it I thought it was maybe the worst album I?ve ever heard)
 | GhandhiLion https://yvette.bandcamp.com/album/how-the-garden-grows
 | JohnnyoftheWell hot damn boi, you got the wrong boi !! but i'm glad someone fixed you for it paha
 | Ryus sweeet much appreciated. excited to dive into them, probably going to start with "only angels have wings." thanks for the recs tecbro
 | Ryus tec my man i come to you for film recs as well. some of my favorite films are woman in the dunes, texas chainsaw, eyes wide shut (nice profile pic), the master, and double indemnity. i like horror a lot, seen most of the obvious classics, but other than that i havent delved that deep into film so dont really know what genres/styles im partial to. any recs would be greatly appreciated!
 | DDDeftoneDDD Been circling with mr. Grumpy on it. Will give it a go fs.
 | hal1ax ohh this is excellent! thanks so much. i'll watch these and report back at some point! and yea i rly should check Sophia's other work. although ive heard her other films aren't as good.
 | hal1ax yoo had a question for you. i dont watch a lot of film but have been motivated lately to delve more into it. do you happen to have any recs similar to lost in translation? lol idk if that's considered mediocre or not by more inveterate cinema ppl. but basically like something that explores the whimsy and melancholy of a situationally contentious romance; maybe something a bit hypnagogic too? (LiT feels dream-like at times)
 | EyesWideShut Tec, a mon of distinguished taste in film and music rankings. GOD DAMN THE SUN!
 | someone now wait a second, all of those are under 50 ratings
 | someone love two of those albums, kinda on the fence about Circus Mort, never heard of Koenji Hyakkei, so i'll put thems up
 | someone need some spicy juicy tasty recs of 50-100 ratings. could you throw me an album or two?
 | protokute There's a lot of them still on my watch list, but the most recent ones I watched that I discovered through you were Seconds (1966) and Woman In The Dunes (1964). Really liked both, specially the latter.
