| AdrianVramulet Thank you for the thoughtful, comprehensive, and nuanced reviews, J.C.
| GhandhiLion Hey, this album has been removed and changed to a compilation: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=148770 | You can re-rate it here: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/soundoff.php?albumid=389710

| GamamJ Don't you always ;) Thanks so much man, can always count on ya!
| GamamJ What's up J.C.? Back for some more jazz recs! Got any more raucous jazz-rock like Mahavishnu or Krokofant (loved these guys! Thanks so much!)? Or avant-garde like Ascencion and Fire! Orchestra?
| rellik009 Yeah from what I heard your definition def fits the bill lol
| rellik009 Sounds good! Thanks for the recs Beekum :) Been meaning to check out Fire!Orchestra for a while too... they're avantgarde jazz right?
| rellik009 I also listened to Sons Of Kemet and Gogo Penguin if that helps
| rellik009 well I've been listening to j a z z like Mingus, Mammal Hands, Zappa and Phronesis, but my knowledge of j a z z is still like a dry well, so let's say I'm looking for j a z z in the same aisle as these artists.
| GamamJ Had to be! «van» and the double vowel on Beekum. Was just missing a «vrij» type thing hahah. Loving the recs man. If you have any more mathy stuff, cuz I love MotK and just listened to Calculating Infinity by DEP which has made its way into my all-time fav albums.
| GamamJ Okay, so checked Kindo, was too indie for me, had to turn off after a track hahah. Krokofant (who are from Norway where I lived for years!) sound insane hahah. So wanky, but somehow they manage to have some groove! I hope they get more musical after the debut though. Do they? Also, are you Dutch by any chance? ahahah
| GamamJ Man, I am always shocked at how Di Meola for example made 3 shockingly good records for his forst 3, then basically went on to make all trash. Is there anything wirth checking beyond Rendevouz?
| GamamJ Thanks so much man! I am actually very unfamiliar with math rock, but if MotK is it, then I love it! So good! I'm afraid (or happy to announce if you enjoy it hahah) that I'll be having to come here for recs more often!
| GamamJ Oh, for sure. There is no lack of metal these days, that's for sure. I just got into jazz recently myself, and don't know of much contemporary stuff. I have really enjoyed Tigran Hamasyan (AotY this year for me so far), Snarky Puppy and mouse on the keys to mention a few.
| GamamJ Thanks a lot for the recs! Can't believe I forgot about Painter's Palette. Promised myself to listen to it a while ago upon seeing their genre tags, then completely forgot... You know, I am in the same boat. I would still consider metal my favouerite if I had to, but it and jazz are really neck to neck. I also find there is generally much more trash metal than jazz hahah. Just the diversity both genres allow is so awesome.
| GamamJ As for Ascension, yes, I am planning too. I have not found an ear for that free-reign and dissonant jazz, or music in general. I can see it taking a few listens for sure. As for Jac, totally agree! Along with you and 50iL among my most respected users on here! Do you have any recs? Could be either jazz-(fusion) in the vein of Corea, Mahavishnu, RtF, Coltrane, Coleman etc. or prog-metal either like DT, Haken, Sieges Even etc. or more Death, Necrophagist and even Opeth-like.
| GamamJ Oh lord, absolutely killing Cecil I see hahah. I started out as a metal elitist, and have found it interesting getting into jazz how there artists will be legends with like 3 came-changing albums even if they have 14 other trash ones. In rock/metal, one bad one and no one ever forgets.
| GamamJ Yeah, that makes sense tbf. I thought the one I heard last from them was actually quite bad myself.
| GamamJ Hey man. I think you have some of the most accurate ratings on the site, at least as far as me agreeing with them. For jazz especially. Find stuff on here is often way too bloated. Anyway, ?sup with the low ratingsnon 7 for 4, I love them.
| JohnnyoftheWell Oops, forgot to reply. Yeah, they're a weird band but sometimes very excellent. You should check!
| rockandmetaljunkie dude, i'm just fvcking with you, they're one of the most boring metal acts i've ever heard
| rockandmetaljunkie you should write your answers on my own shoutbox when you're referring to me
| MementoMori @rockandmetaljunkie If only they weren't a run-of-the-mill doom metal band. I generally tend to review extremely obscure artists to get them more exposure (granted MM is obscure but still).
| MementoMori The fact that they ask you to remember the ephemerality of your own existence is informative if nothing else.
| DDDeftoneDDD It does actually...its very uninventive...autopilot mode...but it bangs a little overall...will go through it again...inclined for a 3.5..
| MementoMori Well, I'm willing to admit it bangs just a little.
| DDDeftoneDDD ahahah just check Lamb of God's first track....had to laugh!
| MementoMori @FR33L0RD: Appreciate the support. I'll respond in your shoutbox from now on.
| FR33L0RD by the way friend, you probably should respond in my and other users shoutbox.(in case you didn't knew, click on my user name will bring instantly bring you there, the way to do in here, a little counterintuitive, if you knew sorry ) see ya
| FR33L0RD Thanks Memento, on your various Top5, constructive feedback.
| MementoMori @Ghandhi, I don't always rate everything in one go.
| FR33L0RD I know that you are genuine, and i support, and use myself, an almost only, genuine approach on social network. For personal integrity and help to fight the disinformation/bullying plague. My tiny contribution. My two cents effort! Cheers, cya around!
| MementoMori @FR33L0RD/PortalofPerfection: Thank you both for your amicable remarks. Besides this, I'd like to add I wasn't actively using a thesaurus (believe it or not) in order to cultivate some veneer of eloquence and intellectualism, I was merely attempting to make a genuine point in the best way possible (with the exception of my last few comments).
| FR33L0RD ...and the previous anonymous comment, its me, glitch login. XD. portal, is of course, true/right. Peace m8! Cheers!
| PortalofPerfection Hey man, for what it's worth, while I can totally see how your thesaurus salad bar might be a turn off for some people, I for one think it's pretty dang cool. You can safely ignore people that act like they know you when they can't possibly. Cheers man.
| FR33L0RD ....and insults. Go on, cheers music m8.m/ From an autodidacte philosoph at hearth and mind. ( sorry about the limited synthax, im french canadian)
| Hi, i saw the unfair exchange. I like your communication style. Diversity is the spice of life. Your musical exploration is similar to mine. Music is more maths then many think. Maths can be simple on one level and complex on an other, often unexpected. A logical comments approach will work. Agreed with you about lack of respect
| MementoMori @Nightbringer: Thank you so much! I'm certainly looking forward to it.
| nightbringer Nice, well, I wish you all the best for your studies. Hope it's a rewarding time. Best subject in the world! ;]
| MementoMori @Nightbringer In fact, I haven't yet begun. In retrospect I probably should have worded that less vaguely: I've yet to start my academic education, which, if all goes well (considering Covid 19 and all) would start at around September of this year. I finished high school this year, so my summer holiday has just commenced pretty much, so I'll have to wait to see how things pan out.
| nightbringer Cool, are you still in the midst of that bachelor's degree or have you finished?
| MementoMori @Nighbringer Considering the fact that I was expected to go to university after I would eventually graduate high school, and I was convincend philosophy was only academic discipline which I found profoundly interesting, I therefore decided to apply for a bachelor curriculum in philosophy at the University of Utrecht. That's pretty much the jist of my relation to philosophy. (2)
| MementoMori @Nighbringer Sorry for the delayed response, I somehow failed to notice your comments. The short answer to your question would be, that certain close family members/friends of mine either were exposed to it through their academic careers or are share a general interest for the discipline. As a consequence I was expose to it repeatedly and it caught my interest, so to speak. I started reading philosophical books, talking with those who've studied it and so forth... (1)
| nightbringer Yo, sounds like you're into philosophy. What's your background or story with it?
| MementoMori No problem, I was expecting the omission to be intentional. Be sure to check out The Way of All Flesh and FMtS especially.
| Wayfarer1991 You're absolutely right that I am very, very aware of Gojira. My aim was not to offer an exhaustive list -- just a few lesser known projects. Thanks for the reminder that it's been a while since I've listened to Gojira though!
| MementoMori @SandwichBubble Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
