 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Happiness metrics are gonna be wild when they learn more about the genetics of depression. Latest estimates have it at over 50% genetic so if they figure out ways to massage those brain wirings...
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Choose whatever metric you so wish. Hours worked? Way down. Infant mortality? Way down. In 2100 the world's "poor" will be bitching about the lag time on their hologram games.
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd You're also ignoring genetics, both human and agricultural. Just as we've been able make massive jumps in productivity for crops, animals, etc., we'll be able to do the same for humans within the coming century. Human bioengineering will be widespread and will have untold benefits. If you think about a person in 1900 being transported to today, the difference will be even greater between now and 2100.
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Dude you're way off. https://ourworldindata.org/life-expectancy/ Living into your 50s was a rarity. There are ENORMOUS differences in living standards between now and then. I'm not even gonna get into obesity cause that's a choice people freely make.
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Do you know what life was like in 1900? Would you have made the same predictions then that you are making now a century later?
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd I understand, and am suggesting that the standard of today's upper middle will be global minimum within the century.
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd You're a Malthusian, I'm a Cornucopian. We've discussed this and time will tell.
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Even now the difference in living standards has been more or less nullified between those in the upper middle class versus those who are on the world's richest list. Sure, more yachts, nicer watches, a pool, whatever. At the end of the day both have the same iPhone, watch Netflix, wear comparable quality clothes, eat comparable quality foods, and live comparable quality lives. Happiness studies show that beyond $75,000 (single individual) there's no perceptible increase as it stands.
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd Feel free to call me a technocrat if you wish, but I predict we'll have global supply of fusion energy, plentiful food, no shortage of shelter, etc. by the year 2100 and you're going to be splitting hairs about creature comforts when talking about class disparities.
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd You're partially right, third world countries will definitely see massive increases, but I see no reason to believe in stagnation at any level. The difference between you and I is basically optimism vs. pessimism in human capabilities, and historically my opinion has proven the horse to bet on (and I see no flip of fortune in sight).
 | GhostOfSarcasticBtrd I have a s***load of issues with what you just said but I'd like to go a more simple route: Where do you think global standards of living will be in 20 years? 50?
 | Toad the whole aggressive self-righteous condescension is kind of getting on my nerves to be honest. i'm getting pretty tired of putting so much effort not into discussing music but just tolerating the vitriol that surrounds the arguments. doesn't really make it worth it in the end
 | Toad well i'm glad you like it man. maybe later i'll come back around to it and give it more attention.
 | Toad like four other projects at once where all i do is read and write. i'll probably come back around to it eventually but at this point i'd rather just listen to stuff that's coming more immediately
 | Toad i don't know what to tell you man. what i hear in these instrumentals is relatively minimal, downbeat and clean, whereas eversince feels much more expansive, melodic and spacious. i like bladee's voice a lot more than lean's as a general rule as well. you probably have a more valid opinion than i do given your research and investment into the record, but it's just not connecting with me, and honestly i don't want to spend a ton of energy trying to make that happen when i'm working on
 | Toad we obviously have different taste when it comes to production. i like extremes and this project is very subdued without being quirky. yellowman is a great track, i agree, but the rest just doesn't present many ideas within each track. i tend to dig instrumentals that are either really overblown and atmospheric or really densely arranged with a lot of melody.
 | Toad i've always leaned more towards the camp of ignoring authorial intention, but my main issue is with the delivery. lean's voice just doesn't have much range and if you're trying to show a struggle/recovery dichotomy, i feel like you really need that. mostly though, i'm just really not engaged with the production on the record
 | Toad "anecdotal of mental breakdown and recovery" there's not much in the way of a coherent story on this record - also aren't you mr. lyrics-don't-matter-man? make up your mind
 | Toad for someone who always claims people read too much into music you sure spend a lot of time claiming sophistication for artists who simply don't have much content in their music
 | Toad i guess i was thinking of my review rating, oops. well regardless i really don't think there's much to 'get' in the new record and i highly doubt my opinion will change but who knows/cares. 2017 has been such a meh year for music for me so i'm not feeling too motivated to go respin a bunch of records that didn't engage me at all on the first listen
 | Toad yeah and my opinion on that record is practically identical to the first listen. not really getting your argument
 | hal1ax ANd lol without your x2 4.5s stranger would be at like a 2.6 avg.... the fck is wrong with these ppl
 | hal1ax Lay down that Econ knowledge for me bro. I?m not well-versed with that shi. Basically the only reason why i more align with right wing economic paradigms atm is because so far I?ve read 2-3 books on right wing Econ theories and 2-3 on left ones and the conservative ones just made more sense to me. I?m trying to learn more tho
 | Toad nah it's just not my thing
 | Lord(e)Po)))ts hahaha yeah man when she first started putting s*** out i liked her in a VERY ironic way but at some point along the way it became genuine and i realized how much shes developed as an artist damn
 | Lord(e)Po)))ts also that new Kitty album for the giddy side of things lmao
 | Lord(e)Po)))ts well on that note i wont even try to rec anything noise related, ill go hip hop instead, have you heard Bisks new album Gutter City?
 | pjorn rip, have a couple of (?)'s yourself
 | Lord(e)Po)))ts thats dope to hear man and even if u aren't doing perfect, ur optimism right now is admirable. and tbh the standouts from this year for me are king krule, fever ray, and lapalux which im sure arent your cup of tea. outside of that ive just been exploring a lot of new electronic artists, ima reflect over my library and see if anything sticks out as something you might enjoy
 | Lord(e)Po)))ts yikes serotonin syndrome. i cant take mdma now in fear of getting that cuz of my meds. glad ur friendgroup is improving tho thats like, a really good foundation for development i think. ive had to cut a couple very close friends from my life over the course of me trying to fix myself and it was hard but it was rewarding in the end. now my group is all good peeps.
 | Lord(e)Po)))ts thanks man. how are you doing on that note? uve seemed well to me lately, just off light observation.
 | Lord(e)Po)))ts yeah thats super annoying and kind of cock blocks like 75% of the functionality of the site. that being said its pretty admirable that your personality is so big that no one ever has to even ask who you are whenever you have to make a new account lmao
