| FullOfSounds No prob man. But I love the multiple comments haja
| FullOfSounds The news outlets here are okay, biased a lot and often don't give the whole story though.
| FullOfSounds Propaganda is so stupid, like just chill and get a long. I don't like either of them tbh. How's Putin?
| FullOfSounds As someone not from the US, what do you think about our politics? Like Trump and Hilary and stuff.
| AsleepInTheBack ah right I get you. Yeah I haven't had a proper connection to a song or album in a good few months now, most of the stuff that hits me hard is from the last couple of years
| AsleepInTheBack Love ire isn't too bad man, get a capo and it makes it fairly simple finger picking. What dya mean man, like no emotional connection with music at all anymore?
| AsleepInTheBack Ah sweet, someone else who digs him. Yeah some of his simpler stuff I strum and sing to (recovery, four simple words, I still believe), but his more complex finger picking stuff I just play the guitar (like for mittens and ballad of me and my friends)
| AsleepInTheBack A bit of Frank Turner (ballad of me and my friends, I still believe, fathers day), a bit of green day, some neutral milk hotel. Nothing fancy
| AsleepInTheBack Nah man don't get depressed over stuff like that, guitar is hard as s***. Yeah playing to chill is great, haven't tried to learn a new song in a while myself, just play my favourites on repeat. No worries man
| AsleepInTheBack Ah fair, I get you, changing chords smoothly takes ages to get used to. I'd recommend persevering with a handful of songs you love with fairly common chords and chord shapes, helped me in my first year. I can't really give advise though, after my first year I took I break and now I'm a bit s*** haha
| AsleepInTheBack That sucks man, what kind of stuff are you trying? Most of the stuff I know are simple songs with a bit of finger picking, nothing fancy
| AsleepInTheBack Yeah man haha what's the point in having a guitar if you can't?
| FullOfSounds People usually appreciate humor here. Who's Eric Andre?
| FullOfSounds True haha. Honestly you could make friends that way.
| FullOfSounds We do have an obesity problem tho. There are plenty of attractive regular Americans
| FullOfSounds Yeah it's the big stereotype but it's not entirely true
| FullOfSounds I know what you mean, it sucks. But at the same time you're not just sitting there, you're focused on something neat.
| Conmaniac hey just saw this shoutbox and yeah we cool af. will check her out man thanks
| AngryLittleAlchemist Im dead for sure. I dont feel anything. Sach too. You i think are a victim of circumstance, stay alive and find happiness
| AngryLittleAlchemist I know but, im not emotionally mature enough for a relationsip. Im an incomplete mess, im never happy, and i hate myself so much for that
| AngryLittleAlchemist Ya that isnt chappening anymore, and i ended it Thursday, not lying. I just dont feel anything at all
| AngryLittleAlchemist Your welcome! And dont stay depressed! I appreciate the help but i think now im going on an infinite downward spiral
| Conmaniac yeah im so pumped for the album now gonna be tight
| Conmaniac it's so ****ing good the last minute damn man
| iloveyouall nice fam. if you ever feel in the mood for something extra nihilistic, jam some hnw (espec vomir). it will simulate becoming one with the void.
| 50iL Not that 00's metal has high standards lmao and yeah their first LP is actually quite good. Pretty consistent album.
| 50iL Huh, I see. They don't stand out to me but I can definitely see your logic. I also passed a small nu metal "phase": I used to be a huge System of a Down and Serj Tankian fan. I still hold them kinda close to my heart cause they started my music discovery. Don't listen to them anymore though. Also, Im sorry if I called a band close to you s***. I don't want to be on bad terms with you or with anybody.
| 50iL Dumb common coincidence lmao. I actually heard about them after I entered the website. They're pretty s*** IMO
| FullOfSounds Good to hear. I've heard Phelps is just destroying everyone
| FullOfSounds That sucks man, I'm sorry to hear that. You can always make a change tho. And thanks, And the Battle Begun is so close to a 5 because of how fun it is. Haha in fact I wanna jam it again now.
| FullOfSounds Why's that? I'm okay, I need to start going to sleep earlier because I'm ****ED today.
| Conmaniac just do it dude aha. and yea listen to the albatross thats where the artwork is from you'd dig hard
| Conmaniac it's a Foxing hat so them. and **** yeah dude that looks sick. idk what ya look like but I would wear it
| Conmaniac noo i wish but ill put the hat on my doggo when I get it and take a pic. the band posted that pic
| Conmaniac ayyy sick. i actually ordered that hat i love it so much
| AngryLittleAlchemist Uh it depends on the degree you want. The "basic" jobs are like 2 years and some training on the field, but most people aim and achieve a 4 year degree. I don't really know much about degress but I think a master's is either 4 or 6 years, and a doctor's degree or some s*** like that is 8 years. Like being a surgeon you'd have to study for like 8 years or something.
| Artuma whores is still whores. love it
| AngryLittleAlchemist I don't know what the difference between university and college is, I think the only difference is university is WAY more prestiged. In america you do 12 grades normally then go to college or a university. It's very hard to skip a grade to get to college early since you have to go out of your way to get a LOT of extra credits early.
| AngryLittleAlchemist I'm going to be honest with you, I don't even know what the difference between a college and university is. Like...what is it? I think Universities are more respected in america too, since all the big wigs went to a "university"
| iloveyouall but i believe i can rest in peace. if i can give everyone something to smile about (endlessly, eternally), before i leave, i believe that i will be able to rest, at peace with myself.
| iloveyouall i want to rest in peace. killing myself with such self-reflective turmoil would make the afterlife more miserable than this. all of the what ifs, and why nots would turn me into a gibbering wreck, regardless of whether i were a member of heaven or hell. it's a nightmare i don't want to face....
| iloveyouall i just don't have the guts. i worry too much about what would become of my gf and my friends, y'know? i want to disappear, but i don't want to hurt or scorn them.
| p4p do u want me to patronize u? to make urself feel better
| YakNips i feel you, listening to cats like wes montgomery or jim hall i just get so frustrated knowing how far i am from being able to play like that
| p4p damn how did u know im half white
| Rik VII Well, I removed it for now, lucky
| p4p whoa easy freak
| YakNips don't quit music it's an attainable goal. i just ripped it straight off this page https://www.facebook.com/memoviolence/
| YakNips i listened to crows-an-wra and the new netherlands good s***
| Wolfhorde yes, I'm obviously a nazi because I'm German and I don't follow random requests of people I have never talked to, lol
| Wolfhorde what. I don't even know who you are
| Robbit I'll give it a go. Thanks for the recommendation, Doomjitsu.
| AngryLittleAlchemist Lol I think Germany is less wilderness. Anyways yes, *gets alcohol* cheers! *dumps alcohol because he's a minor* ! Also nice Primus is pretty good!
| AngryLittleAlchemist Dude I'm soooo stupid....I was thinking of germany not russia XD. Ya I know people from russia and they love the US because it's a lot more civilized ,one of them lived in the middle of snowy mountains dude haha. I was thinking germany so I was like ... isn't germany pretty civilized? hahaa. I hope you do better eventually :( .
| AngryLittleAlchemist Oh really? I figured Russia is pretty civilized in some places but if you're being serious then ya I guess I'm right about something for once lol! Also ya dude that album is great! :P . Just try it mate! i'll help you! It might take your mind of things!
| AngryLittleAlchemist Haha ya but you know, the problem with modern life is that we live so comfortably that we're able to obsess with our small problems. I'm actually writing a Downward Spiral review, and I think it's interesting that when people are put in a country like america where we are very much comfortable, we get even more depressed because we have everything we need and have to ponder on what we don't. I don't have close friends either, and i am not good at anything i obsess at.
| AngryLittleAlchemist Ya me too. I'm in high school and hoping I won't be too pathetic for much longer, otherwise i'll just kill myself too(and I'm dead serious)
| AngryLittleAlchemist Dude I was just going to talk to you and ask if you were serious about Suicide, and then I saw that Scully pic and I was like "OH CRAP I REMEMBER YOU YOU ARE SERIOUS!" Please don't do it :(
| Robbit Yeah, I listened to it right after you recommended it. It seems well done for what it is, but I wouldn't rate it because Emo's not really my thing. It's not bad, just different for my usual listening tastes. I might give it another spin soon.
| Artuma so i listened to their lp and yeah it was really great! loved the vocals
| Artuma never heard of them but will check, thanks for the rec
| Artuma well technically i'm not an intern but i don't really have a lot of responsibilities so i could be considered as one. the employment rate isn't that high here either so i'm really lucky to have this job, although our situation certainly isn't nearly as bad as in russia, hope you can find a job soon. about that skramz band, what's the band's name lol
| BallsDeep Alright thanks for the rec mate btw check out Metallica - top tier thrash/progressive metal from the mid- late 80's
| Artuma i work as an engineering intern for a company manufacturing radioactivity counters, the salary is relatively poor but i can live with it. what about you?
| Artuma from moscow to somewhere in the woods, can't be that big of a change lol. yea i work for the summer and study for the rest of the year
| Artuma thanks, good luck to your getaway plans as well
| doomjitsu oh i suppose it's really close to finland, then it'd be really nice, i actually want to get away from this moscow s*** myself, good luck with yer plans bro
| Artuma nah just sortavala or somewhere like that as i was spending the weekend nearby so it could've been an interesting day trip or something
| Greem beth gibbons mne by ne pomeshala)
| Greem ya seichas pereslushivayu, est v etom chto-to, prosto privyknut nado. snachala neozhidano nemnogo
| Greem muzyka horoshaya, intersnaya, golos nalozhenniy konechno specificheskiy, na lybitelya
| AngryLittleAlchemist If you dont mind me asking whatta you needa change? You dont need to answer super specifically lol
| AngryLittleAlchemist Ya sucuidal isnt the right word, jist thoughts of it. Well i believe in change but im not very good at it
| Conmaniac oh sick glad you liked it. I def agree PUP is better and that first song is so killer but their beach-y rock stuff kinda brings the energy/album down I agree
| Conmaniac oh wow so you haven't heard of any of the rest? damn yeah lemme know what you think. FIDLAR is prob the closest cuz they have that IDGAF attitude that PUP does while still staying catchy and high energy. they are a bit more surf rock influenced though
| Conmaniac def rec FIDLAR then. here's some more: Jeff Rosenstock if you don't know him already, Gnarwolves, and early Title Fight. If you don't mind more emo-tinged/influenced stuff then check out Joyce Manor, Posture
| Conmaniac Check FIDLAR's first album. prob your best bet. I can maybe think of some more if you give me a couple minutes
| Robbit I haven't delved too deeply into Emo, but have sampled a good bit of modern music. I will check out your recommendation and let you know.
| Robbit Maybe DUMMY is a 4.5. I rated that one without re-listening to it again. A .5 differential is OK acceptable in me. I can easily waver that much in rating albums.
| Trebor. I think it's their most depressing. The music is more upbeat and poppy, it still twinkles pretty hard, there's a lot more distortion though
| Trebor. It's probably closer to 4.5. It's streaming, just jam it
| Robbit Since this site doesn't have private messaging, you can e-mail me at robbitd@comcast.net to chat more. I'd rather not tell my life story on a public forum. ;)
| Robbit I used to play in bands in the late 80s, early 90s. Nowadays, I mainly just record and play for my own amusement. It's a long story really to explain why I stopped playing in bands. Part of it was just that I didn't enjoy the lifestyle. I also wanted my wife to have a better life than just waiting around for me to come home from every tour. It was also hard putting up with other musician's egos and bulls***. None of it seemed worth the aggravation when I had so much more to live for.
| Robbit What exactly are you practicing? It you're always playing different stuff, you may not see results as easily. At least have a portion of your practice time be fairly consistent. Spend a week working on one song, for instance. You can beat on something even longer if you need to, but that just might make you frustrated. Move on when you know you mentally need to. You can always come back to that song or idea.
| Robbit I would think of it as learning a new language. You first have to learn chords and songs, instead of words and sentences. When did I master it? It all depends on what you mean by master. I can play a lot of challenging music and do it very well. However, I think playing what's in your soul is much more difficult. You can spend your entire life trying to master that.
| Robbit Since my path of learning was a rather crooked one, I think it probably took me longer than it should have. I was originally self taught and didn't take any proper lessons until about 8 to 10 years after I started. (I took some classical guitar lessons and attended Atlanta Institute of Music.) But I was on a much more ambitious path and trying to play as good as the best players. For what you're doing, it shouldn't take you as long if you're persistent and dedicated.
| Robbit I started with an acoustic too when I was about 10 years old. The best advice I can give you there is to practice regularly, at least an hour a day if you can make time. Your fingertips will be sore as hell until they start forming good callouses. Memorize all of the major and minor chords and learn as many songs as you can. Some will be easier than others, but never stop trying to tackle the more difficult ones. That's how you improve.
| Robbit What kind of stuff do you WANT to learn? Knowing that makes it easier to recommend a path. For starters, make sure the guitar you're using isn't make matters too difficult. If the action is too high, it will be torturous to try and play much of anything. I insisted on playing some rather difficult guitars for a long time, which just slowed my progress. In fact, after 35 years of playing, I finally bought a Les Paul and was amazed by the difference that made!
| Robbit I think the albums I studied most when I was first learning the guitar were probably Ozzy's first two albums, the first 4 Black Sabbath albums, Led Zeppelin I and II and much of Judas Priest
| Robbit I also did the chronological thing (like what you're doing) at the same time. If the book was going through albums from 1960, I alternated their choices with my own picks from that year. And not just stuff I was already familiar with. It's more fun to make a journey of discovery. Plus, it allows you to give your favorites a rest. As a musician, there are certain albums I've just over listened to in having to learn how to play the music.
| Robbit You're right. One list is never enough. I just considered it to be a worthy challenge. So yes, I did get a bit of an attitude about some of the albums that were chosen as the shining examples of essential music. There were few choices that I truly hated, but there were plenty that just failed to make much of any impression. I'm kind of glad it's over.
| Robbit And by doing this, I really came to appreciate just how good some of my favorites to were. That's really what I mean about listening to crap music or stuff you just didn't dig. I tried not to have any preconceptions about artists or styles. I just listened to everything and let the chips fall where they may.
| Robbit Also, I'm a realist, not a hater. There are plenty of guys who go around posting 1's just because they have Mommy issues. I actually have a lot of love for GREAT music. Many of the ratings I've posted lately were from my marathon 3 year session of listening to EVERY album in the "1001 Albums To Hear Before You Die" list. There were many choices I didn't agree with, but I did experience a lot of stuff I never would have bothered with.
| Robbit Thank you, Doomjitsu. I will cut back on my caffeine. No, I was dead serious about DUSTY IN MEMPHIS. I don't believe even Dusty was thrilled about that one. I actually have a lot of love for her as a vocalist. That collection just doesn't move me.
| Robbit More like pissing in my pool. You might want to start with writing your own review and see how that goes.
| Robbit You were the one who started this discussion by dissing my ratings. Spreading the love, eh?
| Robbit If you don't listen to s***ty music, then that also tells me that you're not challenging yourself enough. How do you know how great something is if you haven't experienced something TRULY bad (like TROUT MASK REPLICA). It really helps you keep your priorities in order.
| Robbit Does your ratings scale only go from 3.5 to 5.0? Or are you too polite to say which albums you don't like?
| Robbit If that wasn't a backhanded compliment... I must have hurt your feelings a few of those ratings. Such as?
| Artuma hell yeah man, band is enjoyably pissed and heavy
| Artuma it's either of the last two songs, those kick some remarkable ass
| Cimnele i always think it sucks when punk bands have songs where teh lyrics are just about being mean about women. EP rules other than that
| Pajolero Do Dallas zatseni, znakoviy albom.
| Voivod Nope, too many good albums, too little time.
| Voivod Yeah, I'm aware of the band :-)
| Pajolero Da tam piztets voobshe 4to navorotili s novym dizainom. Huyase ty psih, 180k scrobbles :D
| Oceandrowned ??, ?? ???? ?? ????. ??? ?????? ???? ??????? ????????, ????). ????? ? ??? ????? ??????? ?? ??????))
| Pajolero Dobavil. Harvey Birdman **** yeeeeaaaaaaa
| Pajolero Dada, on tut vykladyval, pomnyu. Ty sam otkuda? Last.fm/Steam est'?
| Pajolero Aga. Tut nas nemnogo, i vsegda lyubopytno na rusaka natykatsya.
| Artuma liking the music that guy makes doesn't mean i support his views
| Artuma the song was aight, quite chaotic which i dig. idk i haven't said anything offensive enough to get banned
| Artuma i know i'll report you when i've jammed it
| Britch2tiger Vocals response - to which genre are you referring to? Just saying vocals have their place in music depending which genre you're looking into.
