| Archelirion Long shot I suppose, but do you frequent these lands still, even as a lurker? Honestly missed your reviews, hope you're getting on well :]
| Piglet Huh, there seems to be some missing shoutboxes or some s***, a couple of my points are missing. The format for debating on here isn't that great, but I'd happily engage with you via email or fb pg.t@hotmail.com // https://www.facebook.com/PogPiglet
| Piglet I take your descriptions of moderates within these countries with a grain of salt, because the research in the field indicates that there is a direct correlation between the rise of petro-Islam and the decay of secularism as well as universal human rights in countries, especially in countries like Mali or Senegal.
| Piglet Despite this, I would not say Islam and Secularism can?t successfully co-exist only that it takes a lot of progress and work to stamp out its theocratic strands that exist in every Muslim majority country and for those who wish to immigrate into the West.
| Piglet cies to have justifications for their actions sanctioned in the sinew of the faith. The treatment of apostasy comes to mind, where the difference between being quasi-ethnic Muslim and a true Muslim is truly a matter of life and death and is even a problem in a seemingly moderate country like the UK. And yes, with Mohammed as a progenitor, it is even harder to repeal barbaric actions, than if it were Jesus Christ or the Buddha.
| Piglet You also ask why can?t I beg the same distinction for the other Abrahamic religions when I talk about nominal Muslims falling below a certain threshold alongside the tenets of faith. Yes I would ask for that same distinction for Christians and Jews, however I would moreover argue that there are theological differences that bend where that threshold sits and how concrete it is. For example, The Holy Bible is made up of a varying source whose only overarching quality when melded together seems to
| Piglet Yes so I'll concede your point that Islam is not unique for its current problem with anti-Semitism and in fact Christianity is by far more culpable on that front. And as a further point, the trials of a Dhimmi were probably less than that of a bag of potatoes, however I would still add the caveat that there are some historical narratives which romanticize the histories of Islam, and try to ignore the jew-hating in the Koran and the oppressive quality within its theocratic states for minorities.
| Piglet You have gone through great lengths and great measures to debate and for that you are accolade-worthy, however I don't feel as though I can bottle up counters aplomb as I am quite intoxicated and find it more in my nature to enjoy a good meat pie and rewatch a movie or two with a bong and a beer sharing hands. But i had no idea the mods closed the thread, damn thas crazy
| Gyromania absolutely. thanks for reaching out - sorry if i seemed a little condescending in my posts. just give me a bit to look it over, i have some things going on today. is there an email address or fb account you'd like me to send the corrections/suggestions?
| Jots nah man. idk, listened a couple times and wasn't enchanted at all. he's done better
| Jots this Taku Sugimoto - Septet finally leaked
| Atari also, I'm just happy to see classical reviews on sputnik, so don't feel like it has to be Schubert. you should write about whatever you'd like don't worry about me!
| Atari nothing specifically, I just thought it would be cool to see a franz Schubert review! if you decide you want to review him you should just review whatever piece you personally enjoy the most. can't go wrong with Schubert so I'd be stoked no matter what you reviewed by him haha. don't feel obligated too though man
| Atari it's just a contributor tag, I don't think my opinions really have much weight on sputnik lol. I'm also a pretty spontaneous reviewer these days, I just write from time to time if inspiration strikes. anyways, I hope you continue to review classical, even if you do so sporadically ;)
| Atari by the way, you should review Schubert if you're up for the task. I agree that his piano sonatas are really nice, although I haven't heard them all. he has lots of great chamber music!
| Atari As for Dvorak, I agree his cello concerto is fantastic. His Violin Concerto is also very nice and seems to be overlooked if you haven't heard it. Cheers and nice to have another fellow classical fan on sput
| Atari wow thanks for the Schubert recs! He's definitely one of my favorites. You might actually be surprised by how great his symphonies are. His 9th symphony "the great" is his most popular, but I'd recommend starting with his 8th "unfinished" symphony. Symphony number 6th "the little" is another personal favorite. all his symphonies are pretty solid, definitely let me know what you think if you check them out! As for Dvorak, I'll have to check out his 13th string quartet because his 12th was great
| Atari thoughts on Franz Schubert and/or Dvorak? really enjoying your classical reviews lately!
| Jots lol it's just one of those "so bad it's good" things maybe haha
| Jots lol yeah it's tough to explain what I like about it
| Jots go to the site forum and post in the proofreading thread and just lemme know. OR, send it to johnnysputnik@hotmail.com if you want
| Jots yeah man, I won't get to it
| Keyblade s/o to you in that california thread dawg. your analysis of the situation and the solutions was balanced and spot on. refreshing reading that after seeing all the other hyperbolic ignorance in that thread
| Jots it kinda reminded me a bit of something like Prick Up Your Ears - sophisticated like you said, but still dingy and slightly perverse. there's some great hooks and solid production, and for a mixtape it feels very cohesive. I liked the elements he used. I also like that he addresses his political feelings in a very visceral and emotional way, rather than waxing philosophical. and, at it's core, it's just a fun, yet moody piece of UK hip hop that you could dance to and then hang your head after
| Jots u have any thoughts on the Gaika tape?
| Jots haha. maybe, maybe
| Jots it's a "we'll see how good or bad i feel like doing on exams" scenario
| Jots nice haha, I'll try. busy with exams tho but we'll seeee
| Jots cheers, hopefully I can skillfully acquire a copy
| Jots lol i guess not in that sense, but I have ~loved~ some enough that i was like, "wow". some of Arvo Part's material qualifies
| Jots i enjoyed it beginning to end and see myself returning, but i didn't really feel wowed by the compositions. there's a new Taku Sugimoto out tomorrow though I think - mostly excited about that
| Jots yeah while it has me kinda on the fence i nonetheless enjoy it (i think), but he's definitely no slouch on the keys
| Jots new Lubomyr Melnyk is quite nice
| GooGooGajoob I feel far too close as I know those who made it. They know my opinion, but I want to share it! And you're a good writer man, don't discredit yourself!
| GooGooGajoob Fair call. I'd just love to see a review for the release in all honesty.
| GooGooGajoob Instead of reviewing an artist like Beiber who we're all well aware of, why not a new artist we're not familiar with? Suggestion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvwmFoql0lg
