| Conmaniac heyyyy man yeah thanks I appreciate it. kinda suprised honestly but also very excited
| Conmaniac yo thanks my dude will check right now actually.
| Crysis s*** you're right i gotta make a list or something
| ShinjiIkari ya I think I used this profile picture once on my actual account lol. Anyways, glad that you enjoyed my buckley rec! Dude, his father, Tim Buckley, actually has a great album I just checked call Starsailor. It's a lot different though, a sex fueled experimental jazz rock album. I wouldn't recommend it to you necessarily, just telling ya..
| Conmaniac also sorry for the late response I was pretty busy this weekend haha
| Conmaniac melodic? hmm A Great Big Pile of Leaves prob would be a good one
| Toad sorry about those assholes on your thread man, i hope you're doing alright
| Astral Abortis Didnt mean to seem like a dick and i'm sorry that your cat has gone missing but maaaaaan there's a great duty of care involved with pets
| Conmaniac dont listen to Futures and Ov they were being ****ing assholes.
| Futures cool list deletion animal abuser
| AngryLittleAlchemist Ok goodnight! My skype is TheAngryLittleAlchemist btw, but I don't have a mic so ;_;
| AngryLittleAlchemist Another album you should use to start out with Alt rock is Dirt by Alice In Chains. It's not straight alt rock, but it was part of the Grunge movement in the early 90's. Grunge is a subgenre of Alt rock that uses the tempo and tuning of heavy metal with the attitude and lack of technicality of punk. Dirt by Alice In Chains is hugely emotional, my second favorite grunge album of all time.
| AngryLittleAlchemist Ok. I'm going to steer a bit from the generic starters because albums like Ok Computer are amazing but they are harder to get into and honestly the album i'm recommending you is better. To see what Alt Rock is all about(at least contemporary alt rock) listen to In Rainbows by Radiohead. It's my favorite Radiohead album and it's much better than Ok Computer in my opinion. It's less "revolutionary", sure, but it's more beautiful, Thom Yorke is at his high vocally, and the guitar work is amazing.
| AngryLittleAlchemist Sorry dude I don't really listen to much music like that. If you are ok with a stretch of a comparison want me to give you recs anyways?
| AngryLittleAlchemist Ok well Alt rock is probably literally the most diverse sub genre of rock so it's a bit hard to recommend when I've never heard republic. Since bands don't always have the same sound across songs, mind lending me a song to sample the band ? What song from them would you like me to rec an album based off?
| AngryLittleAlchemist Lmao sorry i read the thing you posted on Sevengill's profile that s*** is hilarious XD. Anyways you want to get into alt rock? Want some recs?
| Sevengill dude I still use that defense because it's the only one I have
| AngryLittleAlchemist Oh? Thanks man! I've been trying to just talk about music and it seems like that's lost on most people like Pots. I like the users on this site but they really hold ya down haha. Understandable though. Anyways I'd love to talk about music with you! Unfortunately I don't think we listen to anything similar?
| AngryLittleAlchemist Lol. Anyways about me is "cool" if you don't mind me asking? Not to be rude but if you're only doing this to check up on me from a few weeks past I'm fine. Anyways you have a more diverse taste! I'm very jealous! I just always tend to check out alt rock before any thing else.
| Crysis very excited, have the golden vinyl pre-ordered
| brainmelter hey mista, you check any of the summer recs I gave ya?
| Sevengill Cool man, thanks for checking it out. Hopefully you like it -- I think the best parts are toward the end. Catch you later.
| Sevengill hey man, saw you're looking for BM and thought I'd pitch my new black ambient one your way. let me know what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xZO_OKxuOY
| Hawks How about Volahn, Moonknight, Arizmenda, Cirrhus, and Dolorvotre?
| Hawks Listen to some Axis of Light, some of the best modern bm out there that def fits the raw and abrasive category. The EP and the demo both slay. You'd probably dig Vampires of Black Imperial Blood by Mutiilation too.
| Hawks Have you jammed Taake?
| Hawks Hell yeah bro that album rules.
| TalonsOfFire Hey dude if you're getting into post-rock you have to jam Talk Talk, they're probably the best of the genre
| Mongi123 As for others, go for All Is Violent, All Is Bright by God Is An Astronaut, Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place by Explosions In The Sky, ( ) by Sigur Ros, Hex by Bark Psychosis, and Hymn To The Immortal Wind by Mono. Enjoy man!
| Mongi123 Ok for your post rock/indie stuff try The Dark Dark Bright by There Will Be Fireworks it's a masterpiece.
| Hawks Sweeeeeet I'm gonna check the other 2 BOC albums then I'll jam that one.
| Hawks Yeah dude they're awesome.
| Hawks Mutiilation is awesome bro, give them a chance! Listen to Vampires of Black Imperial Blood.
| Hawks Have you jammed Mutiilation? If not def give them a go if you want raw. Vlad Tepes and Bone Awl as well.
| Crysis Oh I will still be here I just won't have the review output over the coming months that I think staff should have. I decided to step aside to allow the new guys to shine.
| Keyblade actually check out my 2 ambient lists, it's got a s***ton of good stuff on there that u'd probably dig
| Keyblade hmm not sure if there's anything specifically like Secede, which is why i love them. but try out Global Communication - 76:14, Biosphere - Substrata, Tetsu Inoue - Ambiant Otaku, Emuul - Crawling Across the Rafters
| Hawks I honestly don't even know bro I've never added people on there, didn't even know you could tbh lol.
| Hawks Check my Arizmenda review bro.
| Hawks I mean that Vestiges album under my recent ratings needs a review for sure. I was thinking of writing one, but I've had some writers block lately so that would be my vote if you're gonna review something haha. Plus I think you'd dig that album.
| Hawks New Hampshire huh? We're not too far from each other hahaha. But I've only heard one Falls of Rauros album so far. I should probably check some more.
| Hawks Well I'm starting a new job in February so I probably will be able to afford one soon haha.
| Hawks Wish I had a record player....
| Hawks Damn all classics, you must be excited lol.
| Hawks Back on the m/ train I can dig it.
| Hawks Sweet! You like em?
| Hawks Soooooo.... You ever end up checking A Lot Like Birds? ;]
| Hawks **** yeah that one slays too.
| Hawks I haven't heard the debut, but the last 2 albums are some of the best post-hardcore albums I've heard.
| Hawks Did you listen to A Lot Like Birds yet.....?
| Hawks Hahaha yeah bro I love them, always have. I'm no post-hardcore expert, but I love what I have heard of the genre. Get on A Lot Like Birds asap too they're amazing.
| SachikoM ENTRY LEVEL NOISE RECS: Converter - Shock Front (Power Noise; easiest subgenre of noise btw), Winterkaelte (""), Whitehouse - Bird Seed (Power Electronics; nastiest subgenre of noise btw), Koufar - Lebanon for Lebanese (""), Brethren - Savage Inequalities (""), Bizarre Uproar - Purification (""; nastier), Pedestrian Deposit - Fatale (Harsh Noise), Incapacitants - As Loud As Possible (""), Werewolf Jerusalem - God Has Shot Himself (""), Vomir
| SachikoM Yeah, I'll shoot 'em your way after I've had lunch.
| SachikoM not much, the usual s***: noise, books, girls, chillin'. Working here and there to make some money for when I start uni, but in all honesty, my life is as relaxed as it has ever been atm. It feels good. When you going to finally jam some noise?
| SachikoM You'll be able to deck Snox easily tbh. He has a weak chin.... In regards to my ratings, I was getting sick of the controversy they caused, the undue harm to the averages of unknown albs compared to popular albs they caused, and I have them all on rym too, so they were redundant anyways.... That aside, what have you been up to?
| Hawks It's been the same for like 3 years, it was time haha.
| Hawks He had a good run..... :]
| Pon No worries man, which of their albums did you listen to?
| SachikoM I feel like a jilted lover tbh....
| Pon Did you end up checkin some of my recs m80?
| SachikoM Check your rec me atmo black thread and all will be revealed. Atmo black is a s*** concept/subgenre agreed. Even worse than dsbm tbh. It is the kind of music that will kill bm in e coming decades.....
| SachikoM Did I rec you Zuriaake? I think I did... ;)
| Hawks I think they formed in Florida, but are based out of New York now. I could be wrong though haha.
| Hawks Sweet, I'll probably give it a listen within the next couple of days.
| Hawks Yeah I've been meaning to get into them, but they're not on Spotify. I'm gonna have to see if they have a Bandcamp page.
| Hawks Pretty much straight up bm with some punk and ambient bits thrown in and pretty clean production. I think you'd dig them.
| Hawks You ever listen to Negative Plane bro?
| SachikoM Sorry bruh, I'm driving across the country lol.
| SachikoM If you want entry-level minimalism, try Tomoyoshi Date - Otoha. It doesn't get much more easy-going than that.
| Pon If you want some recs that are a little more ~experimental~ there's stuff like EAI, lowercase and musique concrete which focus more on the physical exploration of sound itself, but these styles definitely take some getting used to so I think you'll be set for a while :)
| Pon As far as minimalism goes I'm even less knowledgeable there, but try stuff like Jacob Ullmann's Fremde Zeit Addendum 4 or Morton Feldman's Triadic Memories - basically, incredibly slow modern classical that focuses on texture and interplay in a very similar way to ambient music.
| Pon Some lesser known stuff I also like Rutger Zuyderveldt, Alva Noto, Black Swan, Venn Rain, Steinbruchel, Sean McCann, Ondness, Jasmine Guffond and ENA. All of those guys have had something out in the last few years.
| Pon I'm probably not the best person to be asking but I'll help where I can. No idea if you've heard these but the essentials are stuff like Hecker (obv), Biosphere, Stars of The Lid, Klaus Schulze, Deathprod, William Basinski, Gas, Steve Roach and Global Communication. Some of Autechre's early stuff like Amber and Garbage EP have strong ambient leanings as well.
| SachikoM Swee. I'll make an account and then I'll add the **** outta you.
| SachikoM What's your snapchat????? I'll add you bb.
| Atari yeah spectral lore is better, but then again, they're better than a LOT of bands in the genre
| Atari No worries hope you dig. They did a split with spectral lore too by the way
| Atari you check mare cognitum yet? phobos monolith bro
| Atari check out mare cognitum if you haven't. they're kinda similar to spectral lore and I think you'd dig them!
| Hawks Check my review bro. m/
| Hawks I jammed it through once and it's a pretty easy 4.5 for me tbh. I love when albums like this come out of nowhere and surprise me haha.
| Hawks Bro jam the album that Angel (Portal) just rec'd me in my shoutbox, I think you'll dig it hard.
| Keyblade nah that's just how i post man, nothing personal. you coo
| Keyblade why do you think i hate you dawg. also did you neg one of my reviews because you thought i negged yours lol
| Hawks Yeah I would def describe it as doom with heavy post-rock and folk influences.
| Hawks Yeah it's amazing, kinda got a Katatonia mixed with Agalloch vibe.
| Hawks I'm on the third track and it's a 4.5 is looking promising already, a 4 at the very least.
| Hawks Don't really know yet, just started it lol.
| Hawks Jamming that Kauan album now. m/
| SachikoM Try acrid then, pussy. They have a chunky dm influence. ;)
| SachikoM Did you actually plan on checking some pv?
| Crysis Honestly depends on how much I like it or dislike it. I'm gonna try to give it a listen this weekend.
| ComeToDaddy bro I don't know how into bm you are, but my 2 favorite albums in the genre are Kataxu - Hunger of Elements (riyl Emperor and Dissection) and The Ruins of beverast - Rain Upon the Impure so go check em if you haven't \m/ also looking at your recent list, Dangers - Anger is one of the angriest hardcore records out, could be what you're looking for even if it's not similar to Converge at all
| Artuma no worries, it will grow on you. check out rorschach, converge are heavily influenced by them
| Artuma it's not acceptable to rate baptists higher than converge
| Hawks Cool bro I'll check it.
| BigDixRLameStix I find the "bad music helps further appreciation of good music" logic to be tremendously flawed.
| BigDixRLameStix Plus, my ratings aren't even the extent of what I have heard, it's just things that I've listened to enough to rate since starting the account, I primarily listen to black and death metal and at this point I can almost always tell what will interest me and what will not and as such most of my ratings are hits and very few are misses.
| BigDixRLameStix Not necessarily but my main point is that I avoid consensus horse s*** like Waking the Cadaver and generally steer clear of music that seems dis-interesting in general. I always try to expand horizons but not by listening to things that I can almost certainly predict won't be worth my time.
| BigDixRLameStix Beyond that, my ratings are perfectly indicative of my thoughts on the music in question because shockingly they are my ratings.
| BigDixRLameStix You have a low avg bc you have a good amount of music at 2.0-1.0, I generally don't rate things that I think are in that range and I also usually avoid consensus 1s like WTC, unlike you
| BigDixRLameStix congrats you have super-kewl avg rating, good job on listening to a bunch of WTC and BVB, I truly commend you
| BigDixRLameStix ikr i should go listen to stuff i know i won't like and rate it all low so that i can have an avg rating that ppl approve of
| Hawks I'll def let you know what I think bud.
| Hawks Haha not yet bro, will get on it within the next few days.
| evilf0rd yeah he already knows about it haha oh well
| Keyblade no, why would i do that? i rarely ever neg tbh
| SachikoM Nothing like some Colombian Brutal Death. It all seems a bit more chaotic and unhinged. That's why I love it so much.
| Hawks Cool bro. Yeah it def needs a review. I was thinking about doing one too, but I haven't been in a writing mood lately so if you wanna do one that would be great lol.
| SachikoM Bruh, listen to this, I'll be interested in what you think of it (for the record, it is metal [OMG]): https://internalsuffering.bandcamp.com/album/chaotic-matrix :]
| SachikoM Thanks. It's what I do. It keeps me entertained, and it allows me to simultaneously annoy and entertain the more ignorant/intolerant musical listeners.
| SachikoM ...and I'd be receiving death threats from every enraged metalhead I cross paths with.
| SachikoM I have two right feet bb. Nothing gets me riled up. I've never taken sput very seriously, that gets you nowhere. Everyone needs to be less serious tbh. Where's the fun?
| SachikoM Beep is a technically-incorrect colloquialism used to making my lord (Sachiko M). Please, I'd much prefer you call it Onkyo. Anyways, I'd say that the lack of tying shoes is a direct result of listening to all of that metal that you listen to. It's just not healthy. I have been enjoying Bar Sachiko a lot recently (it's helping me write scholarships), so "BEEP" is well.
| SachikoM Not much my man. How's the nothing-but-metal lifestyle treating you?
| Hawks Hahaha there you go.
| Hawks Hahaha yeah bro, never thought I would tbh, but it deserves it. And you gotta bump that rating for Ash Borer's 2009 demo.... ;]
| Hawks Yeah bro they're great, wouldn't put them quite on that level myself though haha. Where Death and Decay reigns absolutely rips though. m/
| Crysis don't even get me started on that band
| Crysis Doesn't seem like there's many of us but we're out there!
