| Jom Ha, no problem. Happy to see you back around here. As a general rule with album art, the site uploader can't handle high-res art, so a good rule of thumb is something like 400 x 400 and ensure that the JPG/JPEG is less than 500kb. Cheers!

 | Toad one thing that you should take into consideration is that in this situation, it doesn't seem like you're the problem - there are problems on her side, with her friend and possibly her. so you come out of this stronger and with more relationship experience. so it only gets better from here.

 | CalculatingInfinity Spend some of that money for yourself, try and get more active to feel better about yourself and most importantly it sucks now but damn it will help you in the future. You take things and mistakes from on relationship and apply to the next one so it is healthier, despite how much you cared it was bound to happen. Long distance almost never works and is essentially despite your emotions and how much you cared being real, your ending goals are pipedreams and life soon crushes you down to earth.

| CalculatingInfinity I get the feeling, the thread is making me sad and cringe because I was feeling exactly like you were 2 years ago (long distance, same time span, an awful ending) and if I was getting that feedback I really don't know what I would have done. Despite the fact that I have a feeling that people in the thread don't realize how bad it can affect someone with near to zero proper interaction with people their age in their lives I think you should take some of that advice.

| AngryLittleAlchemist Don't feel hurt because people are critiquing your work - it's nothing personal and most users, including me, love you and your contributions on here man. Most online relationships don't work, you shouldn't take it personally. By 'gone for good' i'm hoping you mean she just broke up or ended it, and not something worse. Please don't use suicidal so sparingly. It's fine if that's what you're going through now, it's understandable. Most people have some thoughts throughout their life.

| AngryLittleAlchemist I'm sorry dude, that sucks big time. I just broke up with my first girlfriend Thursday and am back to my old severly depressed/suicidal ways. Having a relationship helped for a few days and then I started feeling terrible again and started to not feel any emotions again, I thought i could wait it out and get back to normal but it just hasn't worked, i'm still a sociopath lonely ****. | Sowing I did, and not just because it is apparently garnering attention on twitter (I actually had no idea, I don' even use twitter). It's just a really good write up. Nothing to critique at this moment but if I read your last 3-5 reviews I could prob give some general pointers (mght take me a few days to get around to it though, my life has been crazy hectic lately)

| AngryLittleAlchemist Hey man I think it's important to mention that your Ariana review is still pretty good. Your wording is very good. The people criticizing you are criticizing your politics, which I did too, but I would never neg over that. They don't know how to separate your interpretation and opinion from their mind. You honestly don't deserve any of those negs. Keep up the good work!

| Sowing Don't let that get to you. People can be really abrasive when they disagree with a review and don't know how to separate a difference of opinion and the quality of the writing. It's idiotic. In general your stuff is always a good read, haven't personally read the Ariana review yet (even though I've been commenting in the thread) so I can look at it later on and give you some feedback.

| Jom Okay, all set. The reason why you might have had issues with the art the first time is that the dimensions/file size were way too large. The site can only handle high-res artwork at about 500 x 500.

 | Kubrick Cool man that's awesome that you want to do music journalism! Definitely don't get discouraged it's tough to develop writing skills for sure. At the very least you are clearly very open to criticism even if it is negative which is extremely important for journalism (or pretty much anything haha).

| Kubrick Same advice as before.. ask yourself when you're writing if this sounds like something you would say in person or if it is clear in what you are trying to say. You do use nice descriptive words in this review though which is great to give a feel for the music. But yeah just try not to overdo it and turn every sentence into that.

| Kubrick The J. cole review I found to be a bit easier to read.. your sentence structure is less overly complicated for sure. "Its beautiful coronation gratifies the true ?come-up? in which he would bestow with the blinking, colorful ?Unabomber? - gleaming with brightening synths and touchy bass." - this is still another another good example of an odd sentence.. it reads awkwardly and it's hard to even tell what you're trying to say.

Again sorry I don't mean to come off like a dick, you seem like a nice guy and you clearly take criticism well which is kind of rare these days haha. I think there is kind of a lack of good criticism on this site.. I get the feeling most people don't even really read the reviews and just post generic comments like "great job." It seemed like you really wanted some feedback so I figured I would give you some. I'm glad you didn't take it the wrong way!

 | HolidayKirk Your writing is almost always above average and you pick interesting albums to review and review them well. At this point though I'd like to see more interesting opinions from you. The reviews you write are straightforward and lack a certain intrigue. Don't try to force anything, just work on developing your own voice and it'll come.

| Brostep So in short (and sorry for the long post lol) you're definitely a good writer, but what matters most is that you're an improving writer who's shown commitment to continuing his upward trajectory. I want to see you keep writing regardless of the results (and don't take this series of posts as evidence one way or the other about whether you're promoted, since I have zero idea how promos will work) and I know that you'll keep improving with your attitude.

Your writing has gotten a hell of a lot more focused and "serious" since you started here, and I think your commitment to the site is definitely worth consideration when we're considering your application.

I started writing here after really going hard to improve my writing for four years (for school) and it still took me about a year to fully settle into my own. Personally I'd love to hold it in Boston since that's where I live, but logistically you'd need to find a place where everyone could meet in the center. Also, it would definitely need to be a kick started event, since Deviant was saying the mods and staff don't get paid to do this, but if it would be possible to get the site's name to back it, it would rule and I think people would dig it

| ZackSh33 It's hard to think outside of the box for a lot of things. I, for one, haven't mastered it, and I still get caught in the history - summary - bigger idea sort of thing. You could tell the review as a narrative, a story, a perspective piece - it's really up to you.  | Calc it's not the history thing that's your main issue it's the fact that the body of your reviews seem to be just you describing what some of the songs sound like. That's why I suggested reviewing albums more holistically rather than the sum of its parts.

Probably not the answer you were expecting, so sorry if I misled you. Anyway, to answer your question, I started out as a producer/DJ who hosted his own show on the station, then I became an intern for the semester and put in the work, and now I'm Music Director!

 | Skoj Most of my undergrad buddies tried looking for work and ultimately went to grad school. One girl waits tables in a big city with a theatre department. Another guy moved to Ireland; another to Latvia. The job market terrifies me, and I'm afraid I don't have much practical advice on how to make a good run of an English or arts degree.

| Skoj DJing in college was a lot of fun. I spun on college radio one night a week on our alt/metal station, played mostly for jails and a couple houses that tuned in. It was a lot of fun. Got into DJing the bar and club scene, it paid the bills and had its moments. I was never a huge partier, so that got me out to hang with my friends doing something I was comfortable with: hiding behind a computer and spinning through sets. Not a bad gig, if you have the equipment it's worth getting into.

| Skoj I'm working in a field related to my other major, and based on my buddies from undergrad, it isn't a great job market at all. Used to DJ with major top 40 radio affiliates, and that's seriously scary. Those people have zero job security and work horrific amounts on un[aid overtime. DJ in college tough, that s*** was fun as hell.

| SadAndHolyGlow You won't please everyone. Even if someone is just jokingly making fun of you, they will do it. I for one hate sarcasm and I'm really sensitive towards it. People here use it a lot, and I hate it. But what can you do. Again, I wouldn't worry about it. The more you try to please them, the more they might ridicule you. I'm speaking from experience, trust me.
