Review Summary: Great album if you like wierd metalcore.
Stoopid Ugly Stik is a very creative band out of Dallas Texas whom i found recently and have found to be quite addicting so i decided to write a review about their first official cd
Titled "Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right A B Start"
They combine elements of Hardcore Electronica Metal and Rap to create a sound all their own
Press Start- Starts off the album with some game type jingle with the drums playing before the whole band comes in with the lyrics describing games with a sense of humor
catchy song with more rapping than other songs
5/5
Shurikanz Level 2-1- Ninja Gaiden trilogy for the NES is the subject of this song, Ryu in particular, and his quest. In my opinion the best track on the album with the Killswitch Engage influence very prominant.
5/5
Japonica- Starts of with an acoustic and spoken part with the singer saying a ton of curse words before breaking into the actual song in which he takes a more melodic singing style. Japonica is the name of a Street on the East Side of Plano, TX. This is where SX pretty much started messing with sequencing with fellow porchbag label mateLord Byron. The lyrics have no relevance to this, they are pretty much random and meaningless.
4/5
AD2636- Song about Contra III the Alien Wars for SNES. Basically a description of getting owned by Aliens, AD2636 is the year the Aliens destroyed the city in the game. Starts off with the game beeps and then breaks into the actual song which features more rapping than the songs so far.
3.5/5
BoreWorm 2nd Floor- is about the Boreworm, 2nd Boss of Splatterhouse 3 on Sega Genesis. All the lyrics of the song are direct referance to the game, describing the Boreworm itself and its surroundings ("Filth and pestilence, bloddy bodies in a house of sin, teeth like nails, headless mother birthing maggot entrails"). The song also talks about Ricks girlfriend Jennifer's struggle with the worm eating her brain. It starts off with actual singing over a clean guitar riff then breaks into one of the more agressive songs of the album.
4/5
Evolutions- The song is about the evolution of pokemon, the lyrics are in total relation tot he subject. also, there is a part in the song that the lyrics are naming off certain pokemon. A song about being protective of your Pokemon starts off with an acoustic riff then comes the drum guitar and synths before the Pokemon lyrics start. Very fun to try to figur out which pokemon he names during the break
4.5/5
Fanny and Faggot- This song is about 11 year old murderer Mary Bell and her accomplice Norma Bell (no relation). These 2 girls murdered 3 young boys in their neighborhood and broke into their school signing the name "fanny and faggot" on pieces of paper. The song is a tribute to the victims, particularly Martin Brown, and also a description of Mary herself. The most agressive song on the whole album dealing nothing with video games and quite disturbing in general.
3.5/5
Atma Weapon- This song is about the Atma Weapon, Boss of the Floating Island in Final Fantasy VI. The lyrics tell how to kill the Atma Weapon easily, and "Terras Theme" is played throughout the first break verse. Great finish for a unique Album.
4.5/5
