Review Summary: If you are a fan of hard rock, or Disturbed, get this, it is arguably their best work. The whole band does a good overall job, and produces a great album
I can personally say that I really used to dislike Disturbed, until i heard one of their hits, also known as
Prayer. The meaning behind that song and what he has told everyone is just powerful, how he has a conversation between him and God. Disturbed has always been a part of the nu-metal powerhouse group, but after releasing [u]Ten Thousand Fists[/b], nobody is really sure what their genre could be. This album,
Believe and that album have both gotten some great mainstream success. Compared to bands like Mudvayne and Korn. Disturbed kind of stands out on its own, above those other two.
On every CD that Disturbed has released (thats only three, so don't think very hard), i have only heard Dan Donegan use the clean function on the guitar three times. It is very soothing and melodic. It is in one song on this CD, entitled
Darkness. It also features David Draiman singing in a full ballad voice, one of the few times he does, and does it well. Dan has gotten better on his guitar work as each album goes, but instead of being the typical nu-metal, in your face guitar work, it is more techincal on this CD. It is also to make out the notes he is playing.
The only moving song on here (as far as how fast and progressive it is going) is a song called
Rise. The guitar line is especially going, as it rarely slows down. Mike does some good drumming, as it can be heard over the guitar, and really adds to the moving beat of the song (duh, it is drums...). Another "moving" song would be the explicit
Liberate, as David talks about the limitations of the mind. The drum beat is really moving, but still controllable, and that shows that they can rock without going out of control. As far as techincality goes, there is one song on here that stands out above the rest. It is the song called
Breathe, and the drums, bass and guitar are all moving with each other. It is also pretty catchy as well.
All in all, Disturbed has matured from album to album, bettering their talents, and working on their skills to produce a well made CD. Dan does a good job on the guitar, doesn't miss a beat once, and Fuzz (now no longer with the band) does his typical, yet very good bass work.
