Umm, it wouldn't let me write a short opinion, so here is my short opinion: (PLEASE do not consider it a review as such)

They Can't All Be Zingers: The Best of Primus is a controversial release by Primus. Having not released a full length album since 1999, many fans felt like Primus were cashing in on thier fans here, and infact, Primus were aware of this because they're 2006 November/December tour was origionally titled the 'Beat A Dead Horse Tour'. For most Primus enthusiasts, the hopes of a new album was quashed when Zingers was announced. On the message board of the band, many people were saying that they would not purchase this release, for the very reason that they felt Primus was just trying to get money. The album itself is comprised of the singles that Primus released off the albums, and a few other tracks that were just plain popular. The idea of an extended Shake Hands With Beef has been the luring point for most fans, however it has proven to not have been a hit, being that it is only about 20 seconds longer. The problem with the new album is that most fans will not buy it simply because there isn't any new material, so the fans can just make a playlist of the songs on their iPod or other fashionable MP3 player. There have been rumours of a new album after Primus complete its tour of the USA, however, with the no new material and no formal announcement of an international tour, many feel that Primus may have come to and end. Some are still optomistic about the release, because Primus, since reformation, have never played any material live that was written while ex-drummer Brain was in the band, however, since Zingers features material with Brain on drums, many speculate that it may be played live. Overall, i'd say it would be a great way of introducing people to Primus, but to us fans who consider ourself 'long time fans', its just annoying to not have new material.

123 to iluvatar. this review doesn't describe the band or album's sound in any way, and you can't use the excuse that everyone has heard Primus because a) tons of people haven't and b) that doesn't change the fact that the review is basically useless.

This would work better as a news item, just don't title it "Primus Sucks" because thats old news.

who is primus?
Some sort of band that doesn't take the music serious. But their bassist is awesome.

I always thought the guitarist was very, very creative, almost as much as Les. And yes, the drummer was very interesting.

Guitar and drums>>>bass. Les may play good, but Larry and Alexander were more creative.

Les wasn't as creative? I think he's incredibly creative... whether you like his basswork or not is a completely different question...

BUT, every member of the band is incredibly creative; they just have a lot of dumb songwriting. But some songs, IMO, are brilliant, funky and cool as hell. The musicianship is incredible, first and foremost though.

JAStewart, to submit this as a soundoff:

write a short amount of text then submit it
then edit it, and you should be able to include your full text.

JAStewart,

I had never listened or gotten into Primus before now, but a greatest hits compilation is the perfect time for first time listeners to be introduced to a band. It is NOT necessarily a money grab from long term listeners but should be intended only as an opportunity for others to get into a band. For what it's worth, there is certainly enough here for me to want to be some of the other cd's so I reckong it's done its job well. Review the cd not the ideals behind the cd.This Message Edited On 11.09.06

I've heard people bashing Coattails of a Dead Man. I don't see why. I love Tom Waits, I guess that's it.

I loved this album, mainly because it stays in my car, and Primus is great driving music, to me at least. This had a lot of songs that are good stuff, for that particular purpose.

Why didn't they put Lacquer Head on the album? Also it sickens me how people bash the lyrics. Not saying that Primus has the best lyrics ever, but that people don't realize that the band could give a fuck less about the lyrics, which is why they are ridiculous.

I absolutley agree with you we NEED new Primus stuff
(and to the person who said primus don't take music seriously, they do, they just incorporate FUN in to it, thats why i like them)
