Review Summary: Hold my drick!
Here we go with another one of these Sput-user's up-and-coming projects. Always enjoy listening to the talented community here, you never know what you are in for until you drop that needle. Which brings me to this this "loveisamixtape" character. Sounds like something a lovesick sap would carve into a tree. He's with "fauxdeep." Faux? Like a phony? Don't trust a phony, not in this business. But you can put trust in their debut album,"Then You'll Go Home."
Now, trying to pin down what kinda noise this is like trying to nail a rabid hawk to a wall in a shitstorm. It kinda dabbles. Main thing, it's got this hazy, melancholic sound, all sad and blurry. "Shoegaze," they call it. More like shoe-gazing' 'cause you're too dizzy to look up. It's all drenched in "reverb" and the "heavy production" gives it a "lofi" feel.
Then there's this other bit, sounded like "Emo/Post Hardcore." The singing is all "ethereal." Like a ghost havin' a bad dream. Makes you feel all nostalgic. Reminds me of the "early two-thousands emo scene." I dunno. Does it? Listen to it and find out.
That "Starfall" tune got kinda stuck in my brain. My favorite. Best example of what I'm blabbering about. It's got these "twinkly riffs" sounds like someone dropping a handful of loose change on a washboard, but in a kinda dizzying way. And a "massive, almost sludge-esque atmosphere."
Fauxdeep have crafted a solid debit record, they know how to string together a few notes that ain't total claptrap. And they can make a riveting' atmosphere. "Then You'll Come Home" ain't gonna win no blue ribbon at the county fair. But it's a damn good piece "melancholic sounding, emo-influenced shoegaze" noise that we are all here for. And remember, this is just their debut. The future is looking bright.
