If you've got less than ten minutes to spare, (literally, 8:50 to be exact) give Jamie Hyatt a once-over. He's a singer and producer from Oxford and Bedd is a musical vehicle of his. They've got a full album due out this fall, but these three tracks are a good sample size to gauge where he wants to go artistically. Armed to the teeth with buzzing guitars, he bids farewell to a departed muse on the opening stanza "Messed Up Your Heart." 'This is the love you lost,' he succinctly, but not irresolutely laments. This burst of energy is juxtaposed perfectly with the
stillness of the title track.
Stripping things down to just Hyatt's searching voice, scant riffs and an overall spacey atmosphere, he seems to be chronicling a feeling of isolation; 'drink and sit alone,' he repeats early on. As the dreamy instrumentals work their way in, it leaves you pondering; is he basking in the quiet? Does he want someone to share it with him? "D Minor" follows a similar mold. He's talking about a 'love like ours,' but his delivery becomes more slurred and unintelligible as he seemingly drifts off to sleep. It suits the composition, but it can be difficult trying to get a read out of whatever themes he had in mind. If you like shoegaze, this will serve as a good decompress. We'll have to see what the full album looks like.
