Review Summary: Solid brutal death metal with interesting influences, from Alaska.
Alaska is among the last places people think of when the words “death metal” are brought up. Yet a somewhat new band, Veiled Morbidity, have managed to start turning the trajectory. This demo is only 3 songs and 8 minutes, and it shows a lot of promise for what's to come.
The first track is a lot more straightforward brutal death, but the other two are the main ones I want to focus on. Moribund Ragdoll starts with the angular riffs, grindcore ping snare blast beats, and somewhat light dissonant death metal influences in the form of pinch harmonics. The song structures are somewhat stop and go, especially on Rapid Melting of Internal Organs. A few times the guitarist just stops suddenly for the drums and/or bass to take over momentarily, which is a very nice touch. It’s a more interesting take on brutal death that I love to see, especially in the current state of death metal.
Quite short and quite promising, I would keep an eye on this band in the future. I actually was able to talk to the band recently and the guitarist mentioned that they hope to drop an album sometime this year. So if this is your jam there’s little excuse to not keep tabs.
