Review Summary: No frills, no gimmicks, just an excellent execution on an underrated genre blend.
This isn't an album for the faint of heart, if you couldn't tell by the cover. Brutal, pummeling goregrind with a raw mixing job won’t appeal to most. The drums take center stage more than it should at times, but in tracks like Scid this actually works quite well. You won’t be able to hear anything that clearly, but giving music like this too clean of a production takes away from certain aspects. You shouldn't really expect something super clean from the album cover alone.
Speaking of, drummer Willy (that's the only credit) does a very good job at keeping up with the breakneck speed that the rest of the band provides. Sure, while the band is capable of ultra-fast and pummeling song structures, there’s enough chugging sections to break things up a bit. To the untrained ear (or first listen) everything sounds a wash of noise. But look past the production and there’s some great riffs to be found on just about every song.
The vocals are as guttural as you can get, with bassist Antimo Buonnano doing an insane job. While keeping with Edgar GarcÃ*a’s fast and technical riffs and doing such deep gutturals constantly and consistently is something I only can be a bit impressed by.
This album may be very dense and muddy goregrind/brutal death metal, but the band was mindful enough to add some palate cleansers in the form of samples. These moments do absolute wonders of justifying its 36 minute runtime. It does come at the latter half of the album, with Crevice Flux Warts having some type of opera sample. Really helps digest what you’ve been listening to for the past 15-20 minutes.
Solid goregrind/BDM. If you want to get into this genre blend, this isn't a bad start.
