Review Summary: So tell me what you're dreaming about, cause I know that there is things you can't quit
Tell me all of the time, Every time you leave, a little part of me dies, But I want what I want
Many a night this past year was spent flying or driving, and I found Two Star & The Dream Police to be the ideal soundtrack for those moments. Mk.gee implements hypnotic synths, experimental guitar effects, and soulful vocals into a cohesive sound, garnering comparisons to a variety of artists such as Frank Ocean, Bon Iver and The Police. These elements combine to form a hazy, lo fi ambiance with a consistent mood of late-night longing. Michael Gordon gives a particularly sentimental vocal performance throughout, with many standout moments. One line delivery that particularly grabbed my attention was in the second track: “With every light and, with every same song, with all of your fire, is how many miles away?” In his more recent SNL appearances and live recordings, he has revamped some of the tracks on this album giving them a more aggressive, stadium rock sound which also work surprisingly well. I am looking forward to seeing where his career heads in the coming years.
