Review Summary: SPUTCORE FTW BOYSSS

I always enjoy listening to the music of fellow Sput members. It's so incredible to see the talent, and also the variation, from the members of our little community. That brings me to user loveisamixtape who is a member of fauxdeep and this is their debut album Then You’ll Go Home

It's kind of hard to nail down a specific genre for this album because it dabbles in a bit of a few things. The main influence is a hazy and melancholic brand of shoegaze. This thing is drenched in reverb and the heavy production gives it a lofi feel. The next thing I noticed was an almost as important emo/post hardcore influence, mostly in the ethereal and melodic vocals and the , giving you a sense of nostalgia harkening back to the early 2000s emo scene. Starfall is probably my favorite track and the best example of what I’m talking about with its twinkly riffs and massive, almost sludge-esque atmosphere.

Really my only gripe with Then You’ll Come Home is that it tends to get a bit samey at times. This thing wears its influences very well, but it does get tedious to a certain extent. But honestly, at just over 40 minutes, it's not that big of a complaint. Any longer than that then we may very well have a problem.*

Although fauxdeep isn’t reinventing the wheel, they damn well know how to write good songs and create a riveting atmosphere. While Then You’ll Come Home isn’t a masterpiece, it is a damn good piece of melancholic sounding, emo influenced shoegaze. And remember this is only the band’s debut. The arrow is pointing up and I expect fauxdeep to just keep getting better.

"Yr Last Sound" is an excellent track and a great way to end the album. I like the return to a heavier feel.
