Review Summary: Blue skied an’ clear

Perseids might not sound much like the classic Slowdive cut from Pygmalion referenced in the review summary, but that phrase frequently feels apt nonetheless as this album manages to bring the listener along on a gloriously blissful journey. Over the course of nine songs, Seattle-based group somesurprises charts a course upon waves of sonic beauty, flowing through an entrancing mixture of psychedelia, shoegaze, and dream pop. Whether the music takes the form of lengthier jam sessions like the opener “Be Reasonable” and the title track closer, or finds itself condensed into bite-sized morsels like many of the tunes in between, a la the drifting reverie of “Dark Victory” or the trippy little “Untitled”, each and every offering feels shapeless in the best way, a meandering, hazed-out, euphoric affair. This isn’t a record built upon highlight tracks or even defined moments, but the whole experience vastly exceeds the sum of its parts. A feel-good listen emerging as spring blooms and summer draws nigh, Perseids satisfies as a low-key shimmer of cosmic beauty, fittingly enough given the record’s namesake meteor shower.

Thanks to Jesper (of course) for introducing me to yet another dreamy underground gem.

This is the kind of record which probably won't hit unless you're in the mood for it, but it's absolutely lovely under the right circumstances.
