Review Summary: SLAMAHOLICS! REAL....SLAM....SHIT!
What is there to say about "slam" death metal? Basically it's a form of death metal that is heavily influenced by the breakdown heavy style of hardcore music. Peeling Flesh is a slam band from Tulsa, Oklahoma and while their brand of balls to the wall slam isn't the most original, it certainly is a damn fun time.
Slamaholics Mixtape is an 11 minute beatdown consisting of some of the heaviest death metal you will ever hear. The production on the guitars is as thick as a 12 ounce steak. You're hit in the head over and over by breakneck riffs and some of the most headbangable chugging breakdowns you'll ever have the pleasure of hearing. I'm not going to sit here and act like this band is doing anything cutting edge. They're not. These guys' whole agenda is to beat you into submission with chunky riffs and well placed breakdowns.
The thing that keeps this from being "just another slam album" is the monstrous vocal performance from Damonteal Harris. You want some gutturals that actually sound like a pig being slaughtered? You've found them here with Peeling Flesh. This guy is from another dimension with how he can literally make his voice sound animalistic. Like the flesh is being peeled (pun?) from his bones. Honestly some of the best vocals I've heard on any death metal record.
Slamaholics Mixtape is not going to blow you away with originality or experimentation. Peeling Flesh has one agenda and that is to make you bang your ***ing head until it falls off your shoulders. In that aspect, they definitely succeed. Slamming brutal death metal isn't for everyone, but if it does happen to be your thing, you can't go wrong with this short EP from these blood thirsty maniacs.
