Review Summary: Apocalypse means the end of the world. I could easily imagine the downfall of humans while this lifeless motoric EDM with a sharp and chubby mix plays in the background

Drivekey is a Lyon-based sound producer, who has walked his mile in the shoes of an electronic enthusiast turning into a label owner slash performing artist. His way earned him his place under the sun in the wider dance music landscape with a plethora of releases throughout the last decade. Thus the release of Apocypse’s deluxe edit is very much fitting and welcome.

Originally presented in 2020, Apocalypse marks Drivekey’s peak shape, lifeless motoric EDM with a sharp and chubby mix. Still, this year's LP also consists of previously unreleased material, remastered and reworked pieces.

After the lonely keyboard in the melodic intro we are introduced to the mashup take on the self-titled track. This version of Apocalypse features a longer intro and includes many remixed pieces from the past three years since its release.

Another highlight of this record is Break (previously unreleased), a minimal techno exploration of more narrow frequencies for Drivekey. Also, Lost in Oblivion stands out for its pivot toward ambient and ambient dance music, with gloomier and even colder sound – at times reduced to nothing but a heartbeating.

But the absolute gem of the release is the long version of the Underground. It kicks off as a more psychedelic number FFO Carbon Based Lifeforms, that is suddenly interrupted by a trance-driven beat. Those two keep “fighting” which is pleasant and unpleasant at the same time, the polyrhythmia drives me crazy.

Apocalypse means the end of the world. I could easily imagine the downfall of humans while this deluxe plays in the background.

I've always wondered what apocalypse meant, thanks.
