Cold is a band that has had some recent success with their rock song "Stupid Girl", from their CD entitled Year of the Spider. They also had a song that appeared on the movie 'A Walk To Remember'. The band Breaking Benjamin (to whom I have made some Cold references), has covered the song 'No One' from A Walk to Remember. I believe that Cold has been going through some hard times and had switched record companies. I can’t remember what else happened. It is in their biography on their website. This CD, entitled "A Different Kind Of Pain" gives us their side of the story. To me, it is a pretty good CD.
For this CD Cold is:
Scooter Ward : Vocals, Piano
Matt Loughran: Guitar
Jeremy Marshall : Bass
Sam McCandless : Drums
As we start out,
Back Home is a great opener and the bass can be heard. One of the more impressive songs on the album, Back Home gets its point across. The chorus is very catchy and will have you singing it for the next few days after you have heard it.
Feel It In Your Heart is more of a ballad, and describes Scooter’s breakup along with more of Cold’s problems.
Anatomy of A Tidal Wave was a song that had two titles to it. One was that, and the other one was ‘The Calm That Killed the Storm’, which was also an option for the album title. The bass makes this song pretty good, and gives you a rock ballad. Next, the single
A Different Kind of Pain, is one of the most impressive songs on the album. It may seem very mainstream to many, but I happen to like it. The piano adds a lot to the song, and the build up helps even more. Scooter sings his heart out in this one. One of my personal favorites on the CD. The next two songs blend together really easy and sound almost the exact same, and I tend not to like them.
When Heaven’s Not Far Away is also one of my favorites, and is a spot where Cold is working as a whole, and for this album, it is very flashy.
God’s Song, is one of the ballads as well, and is a bit faster paced. Scooter gets his point across well, and the solo flows really well with the song. This is where the album starts to turn into more of a ballad CD. It is done nicely, though.
Tell Me Why is a perfect example of that. Scooter sings exceptionally well in this song. For the last song,
Ocean, is my favorite song on this CD, and the fast paced guitar riff proves that. It is very catchy. It calms down after the bridge, and that is why I love this song. I call this song a hidden gem, normally because the last song on the CD isn'’t much. This song is just about as good as any other song that kicks out there. This is also the best on the CD IMO.
Pros
Scooter’s singing
Bass is audible
Guitar is decent
Catchy songs
Cons
Songs sound too mainstream
Bass hugs guitar lines
Almost no solos
Some songs tend to run together
Recommended Songs

A good mainstream/hard rock CD that fans of the genre should get. Still good if you don’t like Cold. I give it a 3.5/5
