Review Summary: Dark alternative metal debut from India. this is probably how Edgar Allan Poe could sound like if he had a metal band

Remain a Memory is the debut song by an emerging Indian duo Fallen Letters and it really ups the game for the whole regional scene to a new level.

The band claims to develop the heritage of classic prog/doom bands like Katatonia and Opeth, nevertheless what meets you in the first place sounds a bit like Three Days Grace or Nickelback. And while the alt rock influence is undeniable the song morphs and moves into a way darker direction after the intro. The motif is reminiscent of John Murphy’s soundtrack works (in a good way) and grows grittier. With the addiction of evil whisper Remain a Memory gets the closest to metal, but still mostly operating in alternative rock division.

A good guitar solo is always good – this one fits perfectly, sparks up in the very right moment, and never overstays its welcome. The only weak point that can be spotted must be those quirky electronic drums or not so well mixed drum samples, that sometimes sound a bit off both with the patterns and tone. Lyrics and artwork do not stand out in any way, but keep the spirit of the release in balance and intact.

It’s a bit dark, melancholic, and even depressed, as the topic of the song relates to the haunting feeling when love is lost but not forgotten. Overall what makes Fallen Letters so innovative is the highest-quality production and zero accent vocals – I really couldn’t tell where the band came from until I read it. I’d put it like that, that’s some top-shelf amateur rocking madness with a ton of potential.
