Review Summary: this took me by surprise….
I’m not sure of the genre here. Progressive metal perhaps, but in a Primordial way, sort of. Falling Apart has a little djent though, which is different. The same track also has wild, sinister howls, blastbeats, violin, and sinister singing.
In every track, the band invoke a very doom metal atmosphere with spell chanting type of singing. The violin persists throughout, and chill interludes are transitions to the next tracks. Despite crazy drums and tight riffs, the album is fairly melodic. The final track is the best example of this, with its heavy riff earthquake sandwiched with pretty vocals.
The album is a good combination musical show. Collisions of ideas emerge in an always put together method. Ultimately, they settle on a dreary, all-hope-is-lost sound and the chosen guitar tonality and melodies are imbued perfectly with a witchy smoke. Their artisan approach with woven intricacies wins the day, and though choruses are not memorable, their atmosphere certainly is.
Straight up? It’s a weird album, and in a very good way. Can’t say I’ve heard much like this lately, and their effort is sincere. Their rhythm is tight, the singing is pretty, and the carefully selected riffs are nasty. It’s an enchanting album that sounds like from a different era of music, on the other hand, they’re unique enough to be captivating. This type of symphonic what the fuck metal is in short supply, so get some while it lasts.
