"Mortem" is a word often thought in the torturous, sickening monologue of a metal mind that has gone crazy with the ways of metal. Maniac warriors of metal might meditate on words like "demon," "destroy," "painful," and "sacrifice," and "mortem" is surely among these brutal words. This being established, there are indeed many Mortems in metaldom. Yet there is one band that has been christened (or perhaps "anti-christened") the "true Mortem" and that is the Mortem from Peru.

When you think of Peru, you might not think of anything. Frankly, I don't know much about it. I've never been to South America, but I know it produces some of the finest metal there is. Maybe the sickening and brutal heat of being so close to the Equator turns these people into literal demons in service of metal. That's the feeling I get listening to Mortem's Decomposed by Possession. These guys come from the part of the world where sickening songs from Morbid Visions and Bloody Vengeance get played on classic rock radio right alongside Steve Miller Band and Queen.

Raw, sickening death metal must just be in Mortem's DNA. Just listen to tracks like "Morgue Rapist" or the sickening title track, with the crazy vocals. It's almost like Peruvians were mandated to get some sort of death metal vaccine that fights off posers. This is some sickening metal. "Incubus: The Return" is flat out scary. The atmosphere is so brutal you don't even want to sleep after hearing this, I was freaked out by the evil sounds.

The sickening metal masters of Mortem consistently provide fresh Peruvian meals for the citizens of death metalville. Step right up to the restaurant counter. Chef Mortem has been serving up sickening tacos of evil for decades. Have you ordered yet?
