Review Summary: The musical equivalent of being curbstomped.
Sex Prisoner is a powerviolence outfit coming from Arizona. The band quickly laid down a foundation for absolutely punishing bangers rather quickly with the release of their debut demo which released in the same year of their formation in 2009. The band then followed it up with this self titled EP in 2010. This dropped via To Live A Lie Records, a label that should be familiar to anyone into powerviolence, grind and hardcore. In my experience if you see that To Live A Lie logo on a record you're in for a crazily abrasive treat.
From the very first notes here Sex Prisoner come with insane brute force that refuses to relent in any form or fashion. Nasty, speedy riffs quickly devolve into sludge infested assaults that are sure to leave any fans of powerviolence either grinning ear to ear or making the grossest of stank faces! The grooves here make it physically impossible to make a normal face while your ears are attacked. The vicious barks coming from Mr. Kennedy will immediately have you wanting to belt them out in unison until your throat is raw and you're talking naturally like a Chris Barnes eeekkk.
The tracks here are all separated with fits of feedback and noise. These transitions work extremely well and contribute to the overall mood of the album in masterful fashion. Tracks like Judgement get me feeling like I can get a firm grip and rip skyscrapers from their foundation and just chuck them at my foes with ease. The "FIGHT ME!!!" break in "Snuff Film" never fails to leave me feeling like I could step into the octagon and kill some poor chiseled man with my fists alone.
Overall Sex Prisoner dish out their brand of powerviolence in a way that is nothing short of genre perfection. You would be hard pressed to track down 12 minutes jammed packed with this level of brutality anywhere else. From the second the needle hits the record here a pure blast of adrenaline will course through your veins. By the time I hit track five on my first listen my biceps had multiplied three times in size and as a result I found myself juggling three girlfriends. The only complaint that I could even considered upon thinking deeply would be that it ends extremely abruptly but even then everything here is abrupt and it's part of what makes it rule so much. JAM IT AND GET WRECKED!!!
