Scars Of The Crucifix
Release Date - Feb. 2004

Glen Benton- Bass
Steve Asheim- Drums
Brian Hoffman- Guitars
Eric Hoffman- Guitars

This is Deicide's 7th studio album release. Just when i had given up the dream of a masterpiece from Deicide , a startling call from one of my friend gave me a hope that this just might put the guys back into business.

OK...very frankly telling you...i never like deicide too much till i heard this album
Eric and Brian are at their best and so is the band altogether.

1.)Scars Of the Crucifix: (3:08)-- The title track of the album poses to be the perfect opener for this album. The song starts with a heavy feedback sort of a thing...more like organs...then takes a heavy turn with an awsome riff by eric. The blast beats blend perfectly into the riff and turn the whole song into a crazy moshpit. The vocals are at their best. The solo has a lot of feel to it and is fast as lightning.Lyrics again confirm that these guys had satan in the living room to teach them music. ;) All in all a perfect song and probably my favourite on the album. 5/5

2.) Mad at God (3:05) : This other one is also a killer track (literally). It quite actually reminds me of the Slayer days when these guys were at the top of their careers. It starts with a crazy riff. The Tempo as mad as usual. The vocals didn't really impress me much though. The crazy drum beats and the snare thumping is equally good. The solo is again pretty good but full of arpeggios and ends with the shredding blending into the first verse's riff. Vocals could have been worked upon a bit more. 3.5/5

3.) Conquered by Sodom (2:58) :-- Ok. So this is not the typical deicide song u blast off everyday on your ipod..so what.Instead of starting with a mad riff , eric starts off with a neat solo..though the typical arpeggio stuff but a good start. This one has quite a lot of feel to it. Then stops for a millisec. >> enter vocals..Neat job done on this one...the drums continue to impress with an amazing riff for the verse.Lots of lead work involved..recommended for pros..lol.
Would give it 4/5

4.) *** Your God (3:32) :-- The song really cannot be included in some of the best songs by deicide. The lyrical content is as anti-christian as it can be.If there is heaven , these guys can sure turn it into hell. The vocals can be appreciated on this one...though the song doesn't really leave a huge impact on the mind as such. But sure u can bang ur heads along this one but later dont complain of the pain in the neck.....blame these guys. The chorus is quite hummable.Solo quite short but good. The song rwally picks up feel at the 2:15th sec. mark. 4/5

5.) When Heaven Burns (4:08):-- This song is probably the darkest on the album and starts with the inhuman voice. The last line of the song says it all...that they do this for the love of Satan. The song depicts the love of a true satanist. The song involves a lot of variation as well. All in all quite a good song. The two solos are the icing on the cake. Watch out fot the part after 2:58 seconds.4.5/5

6.) Enchanted Nightmare (2:12):-- The snare and brian's guitars break into the starting of again one of my favs. on this album. The song has a good starting and continues in the same tempo throughout the song. The chorus again is really good..seems close to the title track's chorus. The solos are also commendable. Though the song is short but is complete kickass and is tight. 4.5/5

7.) From Darkness Come (2:58) :-- This song again seems more like the slayer influenced kinds...though its not. The vocals are pretty good and seems that he has worked hard this time. A typical Deicide song actually sums it up. Not one of the best on the album. The song only picks up after 2:14. 3/5

8.) Go now your lord is dead (1:55) :-- The shortest song on the album but a great one. The song is more like a teaser for all the christians in the world. The lyrical content claims bible as a book of fools and ignorance. Great double bass work on the drums. Worth Noticing. Variation is also pretty good. Solo is a treat. All in all a good song. 4/5

9.) The Pentecostal (5:36) : -- The song is the longest on the album but is great. Lots of variations. As the title says it ...its based on the The christian festival Pentecost. The song moves through some amazing tempos and jaw dropping speed. The solo is indeed worth a notice in this one. There is a break after 2:48 and slowly comes up an organ with the most saddist piano work i have ever seen and u feel you are watching phantom of the lord in 16th century. There are pratically no guitars , drums , bass and vocals tilll the end of the song. The piano gives the song a perfect finish. No heavy stuff just plain melody.Again one of my favs. on the album. 5/5

Being comparatively better does not equate to being good on its own...

I like Deicide. They are just so twistedly heavy.

I like the ridiculous black meal style lyrics with the ballistic death metal brutality.

They're a joke because they're so over-the-top that it's comical to me. They just take themselves and their image way too seriously, it seems.

and Deicide isn't... "a joke"... what death metal band doesn't want to be the most evil in the world? I know there's a few but that's not the point. Deicide is a great death metal band, one of my fav's right next to Behemoth.

The gothenburg kings. I personally hate them, mostly because of their extreme anti-christ and satanic lyrics and movies. These guys just don't know the bounderies IMO.

Behemoth or Deicide? because i agree that Deicide need to tweak their lyrics alot but if your talking about Behemoth, Gothenburg? i never thought of them as anything melodic, and behemoth dont have satanic lyrics i knew of but if you were talking about Deicide then i agreeThis Message Edited On 11.03.06

I was talking of Deicide. I never named Behemoth and I shall leave that out of discussion. Melodic Death Meta = the best metal

i quite like this album. sadly its the only deicide album i have. i love scars on the crucifix and enchanted nightmare, but think glen should seriously work on those vocals, theyre totally inunderstandable and far too much like a just a low rumble. instrument work is awesome, overall pretty damn good

My favorite album of theirs, I read today in Revolver that "F*** You God" is used by the United States to legally torture terrorists and others to confess.
