I was introduced to MSI through YouTube. Ah, YouTube, the wonderous times we have spent together. Anyways, after being completely bowled over by songs such as "Shut Me Up", "Bitches" and "You'll Rebel To Anything (As Long As It's Not Challenging", I immediatly went out to grab an album. I returned with a 30 track album upon which the front cover displayed 'frankenstein girls', some of whom were falling to pieces. Since that day 'Frankenstein Girls...' has become one of my favourite albums of all time.
1. Backmask Backwards
This satirical dig at all those law suits involving backwards messages in records is definately one of the more immediate tracks on the album. The main part of the song consists of telling you go kill yourself whilst the backwards messages in the bridge say things such as 'do your homework' and 'eat your vegetables'.
2. Bitches
With it's very Hiphop intro this song becomes a sort of journey through most of the influences the come into MSI. But it does seem one of the slower songs off the album, I'm not saying that fast is best it's just that compared most of the album this track never really jumped out and stood out to me. In my opinon it's just a tad overrated.
3 Boomin'
Then we move on to Boomin'. Definately a very underated track, it's one of my all time MSI favourites. It's so very simplistic with it's up and down in pitch 'Geez's, and the intro that sounds like a DJ on a washboard. Nuff' said.
4. Clarissa
Written about the TV show 'Clarissa Explains It All', I like to think there's more meaning to it than that but oh well. It's MSI, what did you really expect? If there's one thing I really notice in this song it's the synthesized parts, especially during the bridge of "Come on, me Furgerson" where it's sounds like a slowed down videogame played into a tube.
5. Cocaine And Toupees
One of the more Hiphop infulenced tracks, definately. This makes it quite a smooth ride to the end but at the same makes you wanna reach for the repeat button. Once again the synthesis stands out with the 'You've hit the jackpot!' sound during the line 'It's on, mother***er'
6. Dicks Are For My Friends
The shortest out of the songs on this album and also very simplistic. Consisting of 4 different lines of lyrics and some short sharp drums and guitar attack in the intro. It makes it a very forward track but can get you into trouble if you sing it in public as I found out.
7. F
"Who you calling a faggot!?"
8. Faggot
Well this is definately THE song of this album. I don't know what it is that draws people or me to this song but it just seems to be perfectly set out. Plus one of the greatest chorus' of all time; 'Dig me now. *** me later. Sing it to tune of faggot, faggot, faggot'. But then again if you were a real MSI fan you'd know that : P
9. Futures
By my reckoning, this is the slowest song on the album. But that doesn't mean it's slow by any other bands standards. We're talking MSI version of slow. This self statement will leave the tune in lodged in your brain for quite the while.
10. Golden I
This is the sexual innuendo of the century. With it's self depreciating chorus ('I ain't ***, yo, and that's ok 'cause you can watch me hang myself') and the sort of odd choir noise right at the start of the bridge. If they could get Shirley Bassey to sing it, maybe we'd have the best James Bond themetune ever.
11. Harry Truman
I used to skip this track quite a lot but lately I've been listening to it. It's one of those that will grow on you but very slowly. This one is definately quite sporadic but in a slower sort of lulling way. Very weird if you ask me.
12. Holy ***
FUNK!... Sorry. This one is a funky sort of hiphop rythm with the least amount of synth on this album. At first glance it's very simplistic but upon closer examination it's quite a complicated song.
13. I Hate Jimmy Page
The longest and most controversial song on the album. It's funny how people care more about MSI making a song about Jimmy Page that isn't even really aimed at him than one about telling you to kill youself. This is definately sporadic and all the over the place but at the same time it likes you could follow the words along.
14. I'm Your Problem Now
So simplisticly crude; 'I love my mummy 'cause she ***ed the *** out of my dad'. Nuff' said.
15. J
'White wall plaster, it never catch on'
16. Keepin' Up With Kids
It starts up in funk and hiphop territory but ends in the sorta happy go lucky industrial that I always associate with MSI songs. I used to skip this one as well, I'm not sure why but now I love it.
17. Kick The Bucket
This one never really stood out to me. With MSI songs you always feel like each one could be made by different band but this just seems to be like a sorta generic MSi which I'm not too keen. I don't really know how to explain why this isn't one of my favourites.
18. Kill The Rock
Very Hiphop. Very, very Hiphop. This is a jab at all those 'wonderful' and 'misunderstood' rock and rap stars who are so far up their own ass they can pick their nose who never knew what 'that thing down there was used for'.
19. Last Time I Tried To Rock Your World
Another very underated song. It's so fast and energetic that I have to press that repeat button and when I stop listening to it, it's like going cold turkey. Everything an MSI song should be; sharp, fast and venomously sarcastic.
20. London Bridge
Bordering that line into between Industrial and Techno. This is definately a working mismatch of genres that are colliding in midair. After you've listened to this song, see how long you can stand before you try and imitate the synthesized voice at the beginning of the song.
21. M
"This is Faggot, yo"
22. Masturbates
Like an atom bomb that never explodes. This is sort of a let down after the attack of the last two real songs. But still it provides infectious chorus' and hell of a verse.
23. Planet Of The Apes
This is 8-bit videogames vs Starwars. Nuff' said,
24. Played
Industrial Hiphop at it's best, so very venomous and infectious at the same time. Another one I used to skip but now I love. This could be one of the more aggresive MSI tracks.
25. Ready For Love
Seems like a backtrack to the original MSI demo sort of song. Maybe this sort of song is the missing link as to where they went from MSI to Tight in such a big change. But all together a very infectious song.
26. Royally ***ed
Slow but so very sarcastic. But on the flipside it's one that sometimes I still have to skip.
27. Seven-Eleven
And with this song we get back on track with the faster and more deadly MSI. A tale of sex with the girl from the 7/11 who 'may not get down with the pussy, but she stays up all night'. Once again this can lead to trouble if you sing it in public. Don't ask.
28. Step Up Ghetto Blaster
But now we hit a sort of downer on the ablum on a track that I'm not really keen on to be truely honest. I've forced myself to like it but it'll never be a lifechanging song if you ask me.
29. Whipstickagostop
A complete caphcony a synthesized but melodci noises. This makes no sense. Should make sense. Which makes it all the better. WAKKAWAKKA
30. Z
'Enjoy starwars'
What a journey, boys and girls. Let's go get a slush puppy.
