Review Summary: It’s no classic, but it is exceedingly metal.
This is easily the most black metal thing I’ve ever heard. It almost feels like a parody album. Within are typical faux-epic melodic progressions, acoustic ditties, thunder and sound effect usage, sung and shrieked vocals, spoken word parts, blah blah blah. I can’t help but laugh at how earnestly the band gives us this average ***, but I think that’s why it works. The band goes hard the entire time. They slap the *** out of the drums, and they play the guitars like doing so will solve world hunger.
There’s a surprising amount of great riffs in here, and I dug the melodic progression which brings to mind Amon Amarth or Wintersun. Despite playing stereotypes there’s a lot of variety in this album. The sung segments reminded me of Amorphis, which is always a good thing. Honestly, this was a fun album and it’s a shame that it’s not longer. I wasn’t bored for a second, as I was constantly wondering what bull*** the band was gonna conjure next. If you want a good time right now there are multiple types of coffee. For people that are allergic to coffee, there are albums like this. It’s the perfect filler for your day.
