Review Summary: Sinner has successfully passed the test of time and also turned me on.
Sinner is a nu-metal album. It’s also a good album. The riffs are catchy, the drums are crisp as ***, and the singing is great. The vocalist is the highlight of the album. Whether he sings low, high, quietly, or loudly he sounds great, and that’s no easy feat. “What a lovely singing voice” is what my grandma would say if she listened to Drowning Pool (based on the band’s name I doubt it). The harsh vocals are just as good. They are both stomach punching and quite unique.
Drowning Pool is obviously known for their song Bodies but the mistake is not checking out the rest of this album. Sinner is also one of their best tunes, a very sing-song chorus indeed. This album slaps harder than Will Smith on a bad day. It’s gold. Mate, if you’re into nu-metal this *** is pure fire. The way the singer dude belts out those notes is just too inspiring. Those riffs too???? Damn, I like those.
There’s a couple misfires here and there but overall it’s a beautifully cohesive album that doesn’t slow down much. If I was to nitpick (which is my job) sometimes the wah wah guitar effect is a little much but really who cares? It’s part of their unique sound and gives nu-metal vibes up your wazoo. It’s a damn shame Drowning Pool never made another album like this. I like pretty much everything about this album including the generally super relatable lyrical content.
Conclusion: this *** passes the vibe check and is fun as ***.
