With "Wolverine Blues" and "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth" Entombed's transition from death metal to death 'n' roll was complete. I find it somewhat admirable, that they had the balls to travel down this path since then. It was obvious that this shift would alienate a huge chunk of the original fanbase. Still this transition makes sense and I like it.
Extracting the core of "Same Difference" isn't an easy task. Sure, you can simply put in the death 'n' roll drawer, which don't get me wrong, absolutely makes sense. But I find that to be a bit trivial and maybe even a bit misguided. "Same Difference" is their most "non-metal" album. It's a fully fledged modern rock act, with obvious blues ingredients, which happens to be performed by the death 'n' roll pioneers. It has that distinct Entombed sound, it rolls steadily for the most part and has incredible groove, which has become Entombed's trademark over the years. A mid-paced groove-fest with really thicc sound. I'd rather call it groove-rock, maybe on the border of groove-metal.
The more you listen to it, the more obvious it becomes, that it was built around that and only that - groove. Entombed simply overindulged and over relied on it. Each and every track makes your head bang, but underneath there's nothing more to it. It's a surface level entertainment with some more inspired moments popping out of nowhere. Still, it achieves what it sets outs to do. When it slows down groove takes over, when it accelerates it has a nice kick and in your face attitude.
My favorite tracks are "Addiction King" (highlight of the album) and the mid-paced, pure rock title track "Same difference", which happens to have the best guitar solos of the album. The whole thing's a bit too long. I'd prefer it to be 2-3 tracks shorter. A run-time of 35 minutes would've been a bit more fitting. Groove keeps this album together, but it's also the reason why at some point it starts to drag. There's only so much you can do with it. And they've overdone it.
All in all. If you like the Entombed's sound and groove, you will get your share of entertainment out of it. Instrumentally they're as good as ever, gone are the silly out-of-nowhere tracks that sabotaged "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth" and the performance is way more balanced this time. True, it's balanced around uninspired groovy songs, but as time has shown, they hit the low point with this one. And there's nothing to be ashamed of if your worst act is as entertaining and groovy as this one.
"Same Difference" cemented Entombed as the kings of groove and was probably a necessary lesson before moving on to the following four death 'n' roll classics.

I didn't know this had such a low user rating. Once you accept this is simple groovy rock/metal it's so damn entertaining and energetic. Sure not nearly as good as anything else they've done, but entertaining non the less.

nah this is better than literally everything theyve done after it

A shit, i missed one thing. I fooked up while editing, it should've been "the best guitar solo" and not " best nice guitar solos". Can I edit it somehow?

found it, thank you.

my opus magnum is in the works for now, but any critique is appreciated.

With "Wolverine Blues" and "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth" Entombed's...
These are album examples/titles yes? Let's put them in italics ( [i ]word[/ i] minus the spacing) for aesthetic reasons and separation from track titles. Good starting sentence; setting a point to follow.
I find it somewhat admirable, that they had the balls to travel down this path since then.
It's somewhat admirable that they had the balls to travel down such a [adjective required here: ambitious, risky etc - what are you trying to say?] path since these particular albums.
It was obvious that this shift would alienate a huge chunk of the original fanbase. Still this transition makes sense and I like it.
Why? What transition? Spell it out - assume your reader has no idea what point you're making...because they don't. They aren't in your head.
core of "Same Difference"..
Italics note as above. I'll stop bringing this up for reasons...
Sure, you can simply put in the death 'n' roll drawer, which don't get me wrong, absolutely makes sense.
Sure, you could simply lump this in with the death 'n' roll style, it would make sense to do so-but I can't help feel that it would be misguided...

"Same Difference" is their most "non-metal" album. It's a fully fledged modern rock act, with obvious blues ingredients, which happens to be performed by the death 'n' roll pioneers.
Same Difference is the group's least "metal" album to date; its ingredients are solely modern rock and blues, despite being performed by typically death n' roll pioneers.
It has that distinct Entombed sound, it rolls steadily for the most part and has incredible groove, which has become Entombed's trademark over the years.
Because of this, it has a distinct Entombed sound. This sense of groove, while incredible has become the band's trademark over the years.
A mid-paced groove-fest with really thicc sound. I'd rather call it groove-rock, maybe on the border of groove-metal.
I'd avoid slang or internet terms like 'thicc' etc until you've nailed tone, voice et al. The descriptors between groove rock and groove metal are vague. You're better off siding with one and really driving that point home.
eg: "Because of the album's groove focus, Entombed's Same Difference really finds its home within the genre of groove metal." Which reads a lot better no?

The more you listen to it, the more obvious it becomes, that it was built around that and only that - groove.
Some comma abuse here. Try: "The more you listen to Entombed's Same Difference, the more obvious the album's foundation is centered around this groove-based style."
I know you've said English is a 3rd language (and that's a triumph in itself) but basic rule of thumb: if you read it aloud and it sounds funky; written is worse.
Entombed simply overindulged and over relied on it
Simplify: "Entombed simply overindulged."
The context is in the sentence before it; "groove". Further to that: I found eight "groove" usages within your review - it might be time to find another /open a thesaurus.
| | | I'll leave it at that. This is bringing back some early personal review memories. If you don't believe me you're welcome to see Crysis, Dev, Sowing, Willie (and others) doing a very similar job to my earlier reviews. Hopefully this helps. It's not meant to be combative or vindictive, but a building block for those who would write as part of this community.

those are some tasty tips. I really appreciate it.
I'm disillusioned that I could ever reach this kind of writing prowess as you presented here. In my language I can feel and taste all the facets and even smallest hints that something with the language is wrong. Here it's not the case.
But oh well, futile exercises are the ones I like the most. I really appreciate and respect your time and help.
| | | best advice for getting a feel for a different language is probs to just read a whole lot in that language. in this particular case you can read a lot of reviews on here that are deemed 'good' and you'll get a clearer sense of how to phrase/structure/write/etc stuff yourself eventually
| | | found this vinyl on the floor in like mint condition recently anyone wanna cop it off me?
| | | Well, I think it's crap. Didn't like it back in the days, still don't like it in retrospect. Didn't enjoy "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth" either, not even for a second.
This is coming from someone who used to worship Entombed for "Left Hand Path" and "Clandestine". I also remember liking "Wolverine Blues" quite a lot, different as it was. But then they just dropped the ball.
But yeah, opinions...

Addiction King is a great tune but the rest is kinda meh.
| | | this ablum is fvckin awful
| | | Holy shit, these guys have an album that isn't Left Hand Path?
| | | Album Rating: 3.5
It's probably unpopular, but I prefer their take on death'n'roll than their take on death metal. Which is not to say I dislike the first two albums.
