Review Summary: Nice and neat j pop / rock! Keep an eye on this band if you like the genre

If you think that you have heard this before - it’s because you most probably did. Jade Lotus champions the classic brand of j-rock arcade and anime music, with little experimentation but tons of love and quality.

Band consists of two talents - singer Iyu, and Mimir, a multiinstrumentalist composer, who is responsible for all of the music. The duet is consistent and robust: in just two years it has released four short EPs, all of which slightly vary in style and approach.

While the genre is pretty niche, there is a little something for everyone. Self titled and Yura Yura deliver the most romantic and easy listening j-pop/rock imaginable, it would easily fit as a soundtrack to an anime opening or a videogame (and Jade Lotus are no strangers to that style in their artworks). Imagine something like Hatsune Miku or lighter rendition of きゃりーぱみゅぱみゅ.

C-Side is the latest and “heaviest” release, working with more emphasis on rock guitars, rather than vocals, more energetic beats, and faster tempos. The opening tracks provide that classic Japanese cute rock’n’roll that you miss so much.

Jade Lotus show signs of undeniable potential and skill that makes me look forward to their next record.
