Review Summary: Manic is a perfect blend of everything Wage War has done before and then some

Metalcore is not what it once was. The Myspace era led genre of yesteryear has morphed into vastly different subgenres leaving us with an amalgam of noise to sift through. One band that has stuck out to me in recent years is Wage War.

The pandemic left many an artist to their own creative devices and for better or worse, we will be seeing an influx of new music for the next year or two at least. "Manic" is the product of said pandemic for Wage War. Their fourth studio album, Manic, is a perfect blend of everything they've done before and then some. With catchy choruses, bouncy rhythm sections, and brutal breakdowns..Manic is, by far, their most cohesive effort to date. While most of their lyricism is to the point and leaves a bit to be desired, the execution of the harsh/melodic dynamic between Briton Bond and Cody Quistad on this album is impeccable.

For fans of Sempiternal era BMTH, Wage War has leaned heavily into electronic flourishes throughout Manic without being overwhelming or too far from their core sound. The djenty breakdowns are executed flawlessly here as well. I was especially impressed with the flow of the opening track, "Relapse".. just when you think the song is over.. they churn into their heaviest breakdown to date.

All in all, if you're not already a fan of the band, I can't imagine this album will win you over. But for anyone who already enjoys Wage War, Manic is their best album so far.

Review’s pretty good btw. One thing tho, I’m not a reviewer connoisseur or anything, but why do you have the summary word for word in your body paragraph as well?

Even at their best these guys are so insanely basic, I can't imagine this being any good. Might give it a very quick look if I get super bored.

Succinct review, you get to your point(s) and wrap it up tidily.

But…. Bleeeeeeeeggggggggghhhhhhhhh. Wage War. I’d say after their last album the only direction for them is up, but Murphy’s Law would rip me a new one.

“If you’re already a wage war fan, manic is their best so far”, yeah no. Deadweight and Blueprints still murder this record for me, and I’ve literally had the record for a month thanks to a review copy😂

There are so many cut outs on this thing its obnoxious. Music gains steam and then stops and its just synths carrying the song. Really annoying.

This is better than last album but only just

It's okay but it's sooo simple and generic. I hate when an album is just a collection of 3 minute songs. It basically tells me that no effort was really put into making something great. Sure song length isn't everything but usually it's a dead giveaway that the album is nothing special.

There’s things here that can work but the band doesn’t capitalize on them. The run from “High Horse” through “Death Roll” is probably the best example, as the songs there work somehow as either by-the-numbers metalcore or heavy alt rock, but WW is liberally worshiping from the altars of Linkin Park and Loathe, and they’ve got to pick a side, otherwise stagnation will set in and then it’s so long Wage War.

This was better than their previous album, but then again that’s a very low bar to clear.

Death roll was pretty good even if the guitar solo was kinda cheesy and if tomorrow never comes was the only sung chorus that I thought worked. Take those and high horse and say bye bye to the rest for me

And yea it’s def better
