Glenn Danzig, founding member of [L]The Misfits[L], and also the crooning former frontman of Samhain is a very influential figure in dark heavy metal. He is also the frontman in his current band, Danzig. His previous works consisted of Punk, but he manages to be a great writer and musician in Heavy Metal as well. Danzig's self-titled debut contained a MTV hit, although it became popular nearly 6 years after it was recorded, named Mother. He returns to make yet another great album, titled Lucifuge.
Long Way Back From Hell: (5/5)Great opener, and probably one of the best songs off the album. It starts off with some distorted chords echoeing until it starts going full speed and Glenn lets a nice scream out. Very nice guitar work, especially when in the middle a monsterous solo breaks out. Great track.
Snakes of Christ: (4/5)"Snakes of Christ" slows down a bit after "Long Way Back", but it does a great job at maintaining the dark subject matter Danzig is known for. It has a good chorus, some nice backing vocals, and a very strong main riff.
Killer Wolf: (3.5/5)"Killer Wolf" is a bit slower than "Snakes" was. It is a bit of a let down after two great tracks, but it is by no means a bad song, its got a great solo midway into it, but its a bit boring at parts.
Tired of Being Alive: (4.5/5)Great guitar work, and same for the drums. The music and solo in the song alone would have earned this track a 3.5, but the vocals were done fantastically, Glenn did a great job writing the lyrics, describing how someone has lost the will to live.
Im the One: (4/5)A nice Bluesy acoustic. The guitar sounds great, and its accompanied by a constant cymbal every second or two. Glenn succeeds once again at creating a dark atmosphere in his songs, his voice in the chorus sounds exceptional.
Her Black Wings: (5/5)One of my favorite tracks. Very heavy guitar, again, I can't help but ramble about the great musicianship of this band. The main riff is somewhat mesmerizing and the chorus is fantastic. Glenn's voice is great as usual, and a great solo midway make this one of my favorite tracks.
Devil's Plaything: (4/5) This track is somewhat less heavy, but it is still a great track. It starts off with an acoustic guitar playing a riff continuously and then busting out into a heavy riff. Glenn's voice is showed off perfectly in this track, with a great chorus.
777: (5/5)This is yet another great song to feature acoustic guitar, and the riff played on it is somewhat haunting, and Glenn's voice only adds to it. After nearly 2 minutes, the song erupts into a cool slide guitar riff for the chorus. Then returns to the original haunting riff, but once again returns to the chorus after a second of silence, then it fades away.
Blood and Tears: (4.5/5)A great track, the first minute features only a clean electric guitar, and then a piano cues the chorus, which is very well sang, Danzig never fails to impress me in that area. Great solo at the end, you can feel the emotion through the music on this track.
Girl: (5/5)The guitar is great once again on this album, as there is another amazing solo, and Glenn's voice is hauntingly mind blowing here. Very solid track, not much more to say here.
Pain in the World: (4/5)This track in particular has a very evil feel to it, with the guitar riffs at the beginning and then a small part with only bass and drums, until it erupts into the chorus. I'm pretty sure I hear a flute or some sort of woodwind in the background, which only makes it more dark. Average solo here, but then a good bass solo, and back with Glenn's haunting vocals and lyrics. Then within the last minute a guitar solo pops out and does a great job.Great closer for a great album.
This is my first review, so please help me out with some suggestions, thanks.
