Review Summary: Very well built album, with quality arrangements. Songs are structures in a way, which supports singers strengths and helps her to covey emotions and immerse listener into the atmosphere of the album. All songs are nicely built pieces of music, no album f

A.A. Williams for me started from the cover on the Moody Blue’s hit “Nights in white Satin” and at that time I got fascinated by her voice: so fragile, intimate and touching, but at the same time can transform into angry and forceful one, which makes you feel the whole palette of emotions. “Forever Blue” I have heard for the first time today and I am still under impression. It is truly a great album. I was in a very gloomy mood, so it hit me right from the get go.
First half of the album is very subtly and tender using as a main weapon beautiful touching voice of the singer. All the songs are well arranged and use different forms of multi tracks with additional vocal layers that effect makes her voice more enveloping and frees up the space for other instruments. All the instruments work here in support of a main instrument- the vocals and help it to create the atmosphere, which immerses you instantly. The compositions are not boring either. In every song, you hear the development of a melody through different instrumental pieces or vocalizes. Also very wise usage of counterpoint, there aggressive and tender vocals blend together to convey a certain emotion and they succeed in it.
In the middle of an album, we can hear more usage of sound effects like distortion and overdrive. Also drums are getting fiercer, which again supports the mood of compositions. This album is getting you through various phases of emotion: at first, you are sad and gloomy, than you let an anger out and in the end, you are content and satisfied ready to move one. That last phase is very well portrayed in “I’m fine”.
This album is very –well built. Quality arrangements, beautiful voice, subtle touches of piano and guitar, all of those tools create a beautiful picture, which I did not get bored looking at. In addition, I am sure with every new look, new aspect will be discovered, which was unnoticed before. The people, who like some forms of post rock, or are looking for some new interesting female vocalists, can appreciate album.
