Ah, Slipknot... for nine months, I listened to nothing else. Then, I started to listen to other metal out there and kinda left these guys behind. But after listening to their 3rd album, I realize that this is thier best works. it shows how much the band has improved, matured, and that every member can play a part and be heard. (just so you know... i'm doin this review at 4 in the morning. not going to be a very long review)
Prelude 3.0: An interesting opening for a slipknot album. This is basically telling everyone not expect the same. Its a very slow song with eerie singing by Corey. Its also not a 30 second opening like the first two albums. Its 4 minutes long. Although its a good song, and an interesting listen... there really isn't too much to talk about for this song. 4/5
The Blister exists: The first heavy track on the album. Its done fairly well. It also shows that Corey's screams, even though heavy, it has softened a little. The guitars are great, heavy and fast, as well are the drums. 4/5
Three Nil: Now, it says that this is the 3rd track, but its really track 2, pt. 2. Don't get me wrong, its a great song, even better than the blister exists. The guitars are even heavier than in "BE," which is a good thing, and Joey's got a cool end solo. 4.5/5
Duality: The first single off the album and one of my favorite songs. The first "real" song on the album that shows their new style mixed with their old style and it sounds more badass than any of their old stuff. I love almost eveything about this song. 5/5
Opium of the people: The best opening Slipknots EVER done... EVER!!! Sadly, the song doesn't really live up to that unbelievealby cool opening. They might stick some fast paced quick solos in there but most of the song is a lot slower than expected. 3.5/5
Circle: The first song that tells you... we changed F**king deal with it. Many old fans find this song a HUGE letdown, but I really liked it. All acoustic guitar, and all singing. Great song if you give it a listen. 4/5
Welcome: ....WHAT!? I despise this song so much. it tries to be badass, but fails miserably. The only good thing is Corey's vocals. 2/5
Vermillion: another song that shows their newer side of music. A VERY good song. The guitar sounds great with the really cool solo. A sad song if you read the lyrics, but it doestn' stop me from loving it. 4/5
Pulse of the Maggots: Neat opening for the song and followed by almost nonstop old-school Slipknot action... just withought F**K everywhere. Corey does sing, but its hard to hear with the screaming Its another awesome song with heavy guitars, vocals, bass, and drums. 5/5
Before I forget: My second favorite song on the album, although Corey's screams are probably most noticable here and its definately one of the best songs that slipknots ever made. The singing is a decent standout point. It has a really cool guitar in it which brings it up to the top.5/5
(really tired..)
Vermilion pt 2.: Another acoustic song thats done farily well. I prefer pt 1, or Circle but this is an interesting song with almost everyone singing. 3/5
The Nameless: 6/5 Just had to put the rating first. Love this song too much. The guitar is excellent, the drums are at the highlight of the album, the bass sounds awesome and every single member is heard. Just listen to this song two times in a row and youll find this your favorite song.
The Virus of life: A pretty eerie song. The eeriest on the album and a slow... SLOW song. Its not all that great, but it shows that ol' slipknot somewhat disturbing lyrics again (kinda). not one of my favorites. 3/5
Danger Keep Away.: pretty short song, but with the electric, acoustic guitar and singing.... it proves to be the most interesting listen on the album. 4/5
Well, there ya go. Slipknots best work, from start to finish.
