Review Summary: A complete sensory assault!
Vein see their first album release since their inception in 2013 and follows their two earlier EP’s Terrors Realm & Self Destruct.
Errorzone really is a complete sensory assault. From the minute you hit play it’s like being hit in the face with razor blades.
To put this album into perspective it’s a combination of a few genres of metal including grind-core, metal-core, nu-metal, screamo and industrial metal and it’s extremely clever in its delivery.
To a point it’s where Code Orange are now just with bit extra to their palette.
The bands influences become obvious immediately; The first track Virus://Vibrance has a Slipknot drum-bass groove to it and even it’s placing on the album reflects this. Other influences that are apparent here are 90’s alt-electronica and believe me when I say this band is something different and certainly something metal-core need right now.
You can find yourself a few songs in before you realise you are on the 5th track as they merge together but do so seamlessly throughout its 28 minutes. It’s an addictive listen. I found myself replaying this album after the first time I heard it which I haven’t done with any album in a long while. Maybe shock was part of the reason for this, or possible I was just trying to get to grips with what the hell I just head.
Broken Glass Complexion has some clever vocal play with Anthony Didio bouncing off himself schizophrenically between the higher and lower ranges.
Doomtech is already a fan favourite which in itself is creating quite a stir on the internet. It’s brutally heavy with industrial elements with its first break in screaming vocals mid-way through with Deftones elements which again see’s their late 90’s influences come through.
Anesthesia clocks in at just over a minute long which has an industrial horn playing through it while Didio sings the lyrics ‘I don’t want to be like this...’ before they go straight into the aggressive, feedback laden Demise Automation.
Untitled has a Fear Factory feel to it but similar to the other songs on this album at no point do you feel the band are ripping anyone off, it’s just a combination of everything good about all the genres and sub-genres of metal. It’s Veins cauldron and it only has the finest ingredients.
The metal world has been introduced to Vein and by god they should be ready for them as this is the best album I’ve heard for a very long while and I believe this band to have a massive future ahead of them. Please, sir, I want some more!
