Yours Truly might seem like they have come out of nowhere, but this Sydney pop punk quartet have been at it for the last 4 years touring Australia and being able to garner attention and that attention has seen them develop an extremely devoted fanbase. EP ‘Afterglow’ further established the band and their sound and promoters from overseas started to take notice of their talent as the quartet embarked last year on a UK tour followed with a big U.S festival slot which landed them along side the likes of The Story So Far and genre mainstays All Time Low. 2020 was the time to release a debut full length and while this year has not been great for obvious reasons, the music has kept on coming and this one deserves your attention.

What is immediately established by this 4-piece is their energetic pop punk sound. Vocalist Mikaila Delgado has a powerful and clear voice that is perfectly suited to this genre and specifically to this band. Obvious comparisons can be made to other female pop-punk led bands, including compatriots 'Tonight Alive' but there is no doubt she has her own style and is more than unique enough to keep the listener interested. Opener ‘Siamese Souls’ is an excellent starting point for the album as it contains an energetic guitar lead and Delgado’s voice coming through loud and clear with some impressive high notes hit and an overall nice tone which pierces through your headphones. And it also has what every pop-punk song needs. Catchiness. And this record undoubtedly has some fantastic choruses.

Single ‘Together’ is a wonderfully upbeat song where Delgado delves into topics such as anxiety and trying to pull yourself together. The chorus is bound to get caught in your head with the song ably assisted by a solid riff and nice little solo from guitarist Teddie Haron. Speaking of Haron, his guitar is always in the right places providing catchy riffs and it is a perfect accompaniment to Delgado’s piercing voice. Another great example of this band’s sound is ‘Ghost’ which has slowly but surely become a standout track. The pre-chorus is wonderfully sung by Delgado and it goes into a hell of a chorus that stands out for its catchiness, infectious melody and also it’s lyrical themes of loss and how friends can sometimes become ghosts that you no longer recognise.

The band definitely is not just a one woman show, with Haron as mentioned before, perfectly accompanying us on the journey. Other guitarist Lachlan Cronin is a valuable assist to the team providing good harmonies and progression especially noticeable on ‘Funeral Home’. Acoustic guitars are also utilised for slower songs ‘Undersize’ and ‘Half of Me’. Both songs are put in the right spots on the album providing the listener with another facet of the band’s talent. Drummer Brad Cronin also deserves a mention as his performance on this record is more than admirable providing fills when they are needed and his contribution to the quality of this record should not be understated. Check out ‘Vivid Dream’ for some of his best fills.

The production of this record is fantastic with the vocals coming through loud and clear, the guitars are crisp and the drums are solid. Shout out to local Sydney based studio Electric Sun Studios who handled it. They did a great job and did this band’s talent justice.

Yours Truly have firmly established themselves with their debut LP. It is everything that you would expect to hear in a pop punk record but it is definitely not boring or average in the slightest. If you are a fan of this genre, give these guys a chance. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
