Being a huge fan of lostprophets ever since i heard 'To hell we ride' on the soundtrack of need for speed:underground, i have heard almost all of their rocking songs so far. Having heard fake sound of progress and start something, i felt that Liberation Transmission was a bit of a disappointment at first. This is because the new album is a very obvious attempt at breaking further into the american and u.k market with a more punkish sound. When i first heard the album, i saw all the names of their tracks, and only one thing came to mind.'Fall out Boy'. That is the type of feel that the band is trying to get to their new album. I have no idea why they did not stick to their very unique alternative sound which many fans enjoyed in their earlier albums, and also considering the fact that 'Last train home' made it so high into the u.k charts after it came out without much publicity and a less mainstream sound, it is dissapointing that they have a lot of songs which do not reflect their true sound.
But upon hearing the album a couple of times, i just could not resist the beat and appeal of many of their songs. Having become more open minded about music over time, i really began to appreciate many songs like '4 a.m forever' and 'a town called hypocrisy','rooftops' and 'can't catch tomorrow' which will definitely be my favourites. The good part is that they are some songs are still reminiscent of their earlier sounds, especially the ones i have mentioned above. They are trying a different sound, and we have to give credit to them for changing their sound. There is also a greater emphasis on the guitar in this album with lee gaze showing his stuff, which is also appreciable.
Although the sound is different now, i still am really enjoying this album, and hope that their next album will retain more of their earlier sound while still exploring new forms of sound.
