Review Summary: A nonsensical record that will leave you confused, annoyed, or craving more. Maybe even all three.

Bare with me as I attempt to explain why this album isn’t tremendously terrible. At first listen, it is so over the top, messy, and silly, it doesn’t make sense how anybody could possibly enjoy it. Then you listen to the album a second time, then a third, and finally a fourth time. Who am I kidding? Most people won’t make it through half of the album their first listen, unless they are high, love joke bands such as IWABO, or can’t help but enjoy the uncaged style the album has. I always found this album fun to listen to while stoned as a sophomore in highschool, but the more I’ve listened to “Ruining it for Everybody”, the more I’ve come to understand it, not that there’s a whole to to understand anyway.

The songs on this album all sound very similar in many ways. Palm muted guitar, heavy usage of synth, random spouts of clean singing, and double bass, so much double bass. It would sound like any other metalcore album, but there’s so much they decided to throw in that it feels very different. There’s really no flow, but this seems to be a strength that keeps you engaged.. Everything feels so messy and all over the place, but it keeps you interested. You’ll never think to yourself, “now that was the best guitar riff of all time!”, when you listen to a song, but you will definitely think, “what the hell was that?” It’s one dumb surprise after the other, and the album is so stupid most of the time that you want to hear more.

I do firmly believe that there is some redeeming guitar work here. Mathcore style breakdowns make an appearance often, and I find them to be fun enough. There’s some simply catchy riffs and chord progressions as well, and I find the guitar tone very pleasant to my ears. The singer, who apparently is a big deal cause she’s a female, is the biggest catch. I don’t care for the unclean vocals, but her clean singing can be a variety of things. Beautiful, mysterious, annoying, catchy, her singing is the most redeemable quality without a doubt. The synth should be mentioned as well, because this is one album that definitely thrives from its addition. I think without it, the songs would feel empty, and the record as a whole would feel more serious, which defeats the purpose.

At the end of the day, this album isn’t that impressive, but there is some merit here. It’s catchy, fun, and so damn crazy that it keeps you engaged. Every song has a catchy part or two, the singing is better than most in the genre, and the album has this odd electricity to it. I believe the chaotic sound at hand makes up for the album’s faults, and that its okay to have some fun with music.

Glad to hear some people dig it. I actually have come to like it the more I listen, it’s just so chaotic but still takes enough breathers. Definitely a very intriguing album.
