Okay, so this was the first Korn album I bought. I liked it for a while, but then it just started to suck. There are about two or three fair songs, but the entire album is just not very. In my opinion, this is Korn's second-worst album, next to The Untouchables, which was a complete dissapointment. But nontheless, time for me to explain why I didn't like this album.
So, the album starts out with the violent track, "Right Now". This is probably the best song on the album. Unfortunately the video got very little play because it was supposedly too graphic for MTV and the like. But the song itself is actually quite catchy, with a soft intro on guitar, which leads to a heart-stopping powerful drum and bass mix. The weakest point in this song is probably the lyrics. You can hear the failure if you listen to the lyrics. For example, in the second verse, "I'm feeling cold today, not hurt, just f***ed away...I'm devestated and frustrated, God I feel so bound...so why'd I feel the need, I think it's time to bleed, I'm gonna cut myself and watch the blood hit the ground". So you can see. Okay, moving on to the second track, "Break Some Off". This track is clearly nothing but a horrible filler track, and the lyrics are at their worst. Jonathan and the rest of the band did not do a good job of composing this song, for the guitar, vocals, and drums are all very weak. It was probably meant to be a filler, which is probably why the band seems to have put no effort into the lyrics or instrument composure. Onto the next track, "Counting On Me". This song started off as one of my favorites on the album, but then I started to dislike it. The end starts to get quite repetitive. I guess it could be a highlight of the album, but it just ends up to be a strange mixture of hate and love at the same time. The best part of this song would have to be the screaming in the pre-chorus. Now to "Here It Comes Again", which is one of my least favorites. It starts out kind of creepy, but then it gets heavier in the chorus. The lyrics are acceptable, but I just don't like this song very much. "Deep Inside" is the fifth track, and it seems to be another filler. The lyrics, vocals, bass and guitar are all bad. The best part would be David's drumming, although that's not too thrilling either.
The next track is 'Did My Time", which was one of the biggest hits from the album, and, in my opinion, one of the best. I don't really like the intro, but it starts off with a soft guitar intro, and then it blasts into a mixture of heaviness and pure energy. One of the best songs on the album, and quite possibly the biggest hit. Okay, now there's "Everything I've Known". Really dumb title, in my opinion. The song itself is okay, worth listening to, but the lyrics are bad and so are Jon's vocals. The screaming is more of a 'holler' than anything else. Now there's the horrible "Play Me", which is my least favorite track on the entire album. It features the popular rapper Nas, but that doesn't make it any better. In fact, it makes it worse. The first verse is Nas rapping about women, a typical rap topic, but just look at the title, what else did you expect? And the bridge actually is just Jon talking. Horrible lyrics. The whole song just downright sucks. Then there's "Alive". This song will probably only please the hardcore Korn fans who appreciate the old stuff more. Newcoming Korn fans might not like this as much. The chorus is simply Jon growling "A...LIVE....A....LIVE", just chanting that over and over again.
I won't even talk about the next two tracks, "Let's Do This Now" and "I'm Done", because they both were so terrible I don't even feel like mentioning them. I actually wanted Jon to be done. But track twelve, "Yall Want A Single" was a fairly popular song, and was also the most non-radio friendly. And the editing on this song is terrible. You can clearly tell what Jon is saying. But this is a highlight of the album and one of my faves. "When Will This End" is the last, and to be honest, I was wondering the same thing. It's quite repetitive and Jon tries so hard to be heavy that it's actually quite pathetic. But the bonus track, "One (Live)" (yes, it is a live cover of Metallica's hit), is my favorite song on the album. You might have to fast-forward about ten minutes or so from the last track to get to this.
BOTTOM LINE:
I wouldn't really reccomend this to anybody, but if you wanna try it for yourself, go for it.

The singles off of this album were strong, but the rest of the album is pretty awful (except Play Me which is decent).
Avoid this album like the plague.

This album isn't as bad as many people give it crap for. I like the first 8 songs enough to listen to and Y'All Want A Single
| | | they've done ONE good album. the self titled. life is peachy had about 4 decent songs. follow the leader was passable, about 50:50 with good and shite. then issues came out with only good songs being the singles, ditto for untouchables. and then this one and the new one are proper fucking rubbish. not a single good track on any of them.
| | | Album Rating: 3.5
IMO, their s/t was decent. Life Is Peaachy had NO good songs, FTL is their classic, Issues only has good singles, Untouchables is my second favorite, teh only track I hate on that album is the second one, and this is decent as well, and the new album is really good to. That's just me of course.

wasn't as good as Issues, but TALITM was alright.
| | | i hated this album almost as much as i hated Follow The Leader or Life Is Peachy, i agree with your review except "Everything I've Known" kicks @$$.
| | | I love Play Me. You've seemed to misinterpret the lyrics. It's about how people try to decive you. Just because Nas compares something to porn doesn't make it about women.
Other than that, this was a pretty good review. I doubt I'll ever buy this album even though I like Korn.

You're credibility was shot when you spelled it "KoRn".
you just have to listen to them
I'd say he did listen to them, as he reviewed the album. Far more coherently than your post, anyway.
