Release Date: 2006 | Tracklist

Sound: The post-hardcore quartet from Irving, CA have come out with a brand new EP that, once again, will blow the minds of past fans and future listeners. It contains two B-sides that didn't make the album Vheissu, "Flags Of Dawn" and "Weight Of Glory," as well as four acoustic, live performances. The live tracks include "Under A Killing Moon," "For Miles," "Red Sky" and "Of Dust And Nations." Thrice has managed to make past recordings shine both as originals, and as acoustic re-makings, not once, but twice. The first time with "If We Could Only See Us Now," and now with the current "Red Sky EP."

Lyrics: Dustin Kensrue, as I've said many times before, is one of the best lyricists I have ever encountered in modern music. He writes about intensely deep subjects and ideas that are greatly influenced by literary works and scriptures. If anything, buy this record to hear the amazing lyrics of Dustin in greater clairity than ever. You won't regret it, and all you'll end up doing is expanding your mind and your vocabulary.

Overall Impression: Again, Thrice has made an album that I'm proud to own. It encompasses so much of their sound and feel that this EP is better than most full-lengths I've purchased. All the songs are amazingly done, and the re-makes almost feel like completely new songs because of their setting and melodic feel. I would reccomend this album to fans of almost any genre, because it defies them all, and if lost or stolen, I'd rebuy it in an instant.

If We Could Only See Us Now-lite, less content, not as satisfying, but not bad by any means...

Some nicely done re-imaginings of earlier works, plus two awesome unreleased tracks....

HMV. It's wierd, there's no mention of it on the Thrice website. I think it may be a fan-released EP.

It's a CD single. Record labels release them so that radio station can purchase the single and play the song at their station. When Red Sky is released as a single, it's released in this form. There was one for "Image of the Invisible" too. If you pre-ordered Vheissu you got a white vinyl that included "The Weight of Glory."

Interesting. Didn't read the track list. This must a supplementary single. I guarantee there's another Red Sky single.

The "Red Sky" single is a bit different from the regular. They extend the ending and Dustin sings "I can see the sky turn red" a couple more times during the ending.

I could have sworn I saw this in Best Buy without the b-sides... oh well. Flags of Dawn is one of, if not the most beautiful song Thrice has created.

Are the live tracks from the AOL sessions thingy? Those were on the one I saw in Best Buy .

edit: nevermind, I just saw a different one for the best buy sampler. This Message Edited On 06.28.06

Oh my god, couldn't have put it better. It's definitely in my top 3 songs, if not number 1. It's a shame it's a bside and many Thrice fans will go without hearing it. Breathtaking song.

Couldn't agree with you more cbmartinez. Flags of Dawn is truly a brilliant thrice song and how it got left off Vheissu is a true mystery to me. The only reason I can think of is that it didn't flow well with the rest of the album

I downloaded this from iTunes. I saw it at Best Buy, and they give you a free copy if you buy the collectors edition of Vheissu. Awesome stuff...
