excellent

Release Date: 2018 | Tracklist

Review Summary: Smelly

Fuck an intro. Here we get b-movie horror inspired death metal. Villainous tremolo picked riffs and barbaric rhythmic assaults are broken up by hideous leads and batshit crazy solos. The impressive songwriting is backed by an excellent and varied drumming performance. Matt Izzi is an OSDM prodigy behind the kit, always seeming to come through with a way to push the songs along in headbangable and interesting ways. Look at "Bodies Collect" for proof of his skills. One minute and twenty-five seconds in we get an almost proggy riff, and Izzi is right on top of it, making full use of his kit. A lot of thought goes into exactly how he will bludgeon you into a pile of gore. Now that I’ve thoroughly jerked off the drummer, let me speak on the band as a whole. You can sometimes tell which bands get together in a room and jam together for the writing process; those bands usually play off of each other better, and I would be surprised to learn if this wasn’t the case for Scorched. They play as a unit, the songs obviously meticulously crafted by minds that have a true passion for the macabre. Their clear vision also comes through in the way the album was produced. The drums sound crisp and organic, the guitars have real weight to them, and the vocals sound like they’re reverberating from deep inside a pitch black dungeon. Speaking of the vocals, Matt Kapa’s throat was fucking made to spew this filth. If you’re looking for a nice and murderous death metal album to bury you for Halloween…Ecliptic Butchery, bitch.
