This is their first Full Length album this year, its their first follow up after their 4 song 7" demo (Cul De Sac records).
This has to be one of my favorite pop punk cd's, in fact this band is on my top 5 favorite bands right now.
The heart of this band lies in pop-punk, but its apparent that the hardcore influences are there. Matt foster is able to incorporate pretty infectuous and cacthy choruses, and on top of that many of the songs have gang vocals, which really further the songs up higher. The lyrics are mostly speak out about love/relationships, but it does move onto things like friendships and things of that nature. The two guitarists of this band cooperate pretty well together to accompany matt foster vocals, it really helpes them give their own sound, not to mention drums and bass dont keep you bored either. One particular track that i really like in this album is "Amber Sunlight", which I think its only Matt Foster along with an acoustic guitar (he has his own solo acoustic songs outside of First To Leave), this song really is heartfelt, it was really warm imagery and to me it just sounds very honest. Another strong song in the album is "Stable Mind", it is faster than most songs, the choruses are very catchy, and the last 40 seconds of this song is just amazing, but I'll let you find that out.
Their influences include "Saves the Day, Kid Dynamite, Lifetime, Fairweather, Reach The Sky, The Movielife, Grey Area, Paint it Black, Hey Mercedes.". This album is pretty melodic, it is pretty slow moving at times (especially at the end of the songs). Even so, First To Leave's music just makes you want to go to one of their shows and sing along.
