*First Review*
Flogging Molly is a weird band name. So weird that if you ever mentioned it to one of your friends who never heard it before, they might laugh at you for liking such an odd group. In some cases people can also find the music to be really bizarre, but this is only in those who have never heard a Celtic band before. I must admit at first when I had heard Flogging Molly for the first time I thought it was a little weird but it drove a happy cheery sensation inside that made me want to hear more, doing so I picked up Drunken Lullabies. I must say, this album is rather enjoyable. It’s a fusion of punk and folk all mixed up in a gigantic pot of gold. This album has a vast array of good songs Dave King is a genius song writer, and it really shows in this album.
There are a lot of really good songs on drunken lullabies but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Rebels of a Scared Heart. I like the pirate theme and the lyrics are really good too like, “No ball, no chain, no prison shall keep for we're the rebels of a scared heart…” one of my favorite parts of the song is the tin whistle and the lyrics. I also love how in the beginning its slow tempo and then it goes faster and faster. What I like about the lyrics is how they rhyme with other words so perfectly and it fits in like a perfect sized puzzle piece. When ever I hear this song come on, I feel like I’m there with them as they sing it because of all of the great lyrics.
Some reasons I don’t like this album is because of the slow songs. And I am not very fond of their slow songs. I prefer the faster ones. When I hear the faster ones for some odd reason when ever I hear the fast songs I want to run. But when I hear the slow songs I just feel like changing the slow song its on. Flogging Molly is a great band but if you have never heard them before I think that you should pick another album then this one so you could get to know what they are like more. I also don’t like how when the songs are slow its very repetitive.
In conclusion, I really like this album because of all its instruments like the tin whistle and mandolin. I also like how in some of the songs it begins slow and picks up tempo. I also like how when ever I hear a song I like, it makes me really happy for some reason. Anyway, that was my first review, please don’t be too harsh.
*By the way, Im only 11 years old. I don’t expect it to be up to par with the other reviews on this site. Please go easy on me :)
