Review Summary: Short, but vivid dungeon synth.
Super short, but very well-composed dungeon synth that separates itself from the usual form of the genre by being less dark & grim while being more dreamy & lush - just like Fief, Rhandir, Lunar Womb and many others.
"I" consists of four short (mostly less than 3 minutes long) compositions, based on medieval-like melodies. Every song has its' own melody and mood, making such a short release diverse and interesting enough to listen to - making it a memorable experience.
On the palette of sounds, next to the classic "dungeon synth-ish" tools - like classic hardware synths, solid synth drums and lots of reverb effect - you can find something less common: melodies being led by bagpipe (or maybe hurdy-gurdy...), guitar and wooden flute-like sounds, creating an unique atmosphere (which was a little bit similar to me from Adam Skorupa & Paweł Błaszczak's work in The Withcer 1 soundtrack - or if anyone else remembers the soundtrack of the game: Cultures-Northland). But also, there's a very gentle usage of bar chimes, cymbals and other effects, taking a serious part in creating the atmosphere of each song - without being kitchy.
Alltogether, with its' hidden complexity, "I" can provide the sense of serenity and mirth with a little touch of enchantment and fantasy.
So, despite of the super-short length of this demo, "I" is a really pleasing experience, and a totally must-listen-to for every fan of Fief, but also a highly recommended one for every "dungeoneer".
