Review Summary: The worst of the derps
Animals as Leaders returns with another bland installment in their already frail carcass of a discography. If you weren’t convinced that they were dead before they even hit the ground, this album will convince you that a dead horse can be more dead when all its juice oozes out, leaving it with no substance and a foul stench. There is no leading animal left after listening to this opposite-of-Bach misery. Once again, we are forcefully fed the most uncreative drivel which is said to be their style, but in reality has less style than when your granny wears a fanny pack to church. You might say they’re consistent, but they’re only really good at sucking ass, and they can barely do that properly.
Let’s talk about their “style”. Basically it’s a bunch of guys hitting their instruments as fast and hard as possible. But wait, there must be more to this! There isn’t. They get busy with their instruments and create loud beats that are not catchy, fun, or memorable. The metalcore community act as though these guys are gods but what we have here is undeniably basic. Changing time signatures is not creative, anybody that took basic music theory can do it. But this is what this “band” calls “music”, and their obsession with time signatures is hilariously absurd. They’re so focused on making samey, uncreative beats that they forgot to add melodies! Their isn’t even a singer in this band, they attempt to use guitars riffs and solos to fill in the void of no melody and it doesn’t work. If music was food, there food is a bowl of spaghetti, but instead of pasta they use a live octopus, and they missed the bowl just to piss you off. They try so hard to be different but really they’re as generic as Miley.
This is the equivalent of a 5 year old picking up a guitar, figuring out how to play one riff, and then he goes on a talent show. This sounds like if Dream Theater lost their soul, melodies, inspiration, good beats and then were date raped by brokeNCYDE while Bieber whispered in their ear. The point: this album does not sound good. In the history of compositions this won’t even make a blip on the radar. Animals As Leaders squished them self a long time ago with their resistance to creativity, and with this album nothing changes except my anger towards them has escalated to ungodly levels. Terrible.
